Metagenomics and bacterial culture were used to determine the normal skin microbiome of the Western mosquitofish (Gambusia affinis). This is the first study of G. affinis, and the most in-depth study of any fish skin, utilizing a combination of 16S profile pyrosequencing and culture analysis. Over 1800 sequences obtained from three individuals reveal that over half of all sequences come from five invariant genera, Acinetobacter, Sphingomonas, Acidovorax, Enhydrobacter, and Aquabacterium. The microbiome is diverse but has low equitability, with a total of 81 genera detected. Challenge studies suggest that non-native bacteria cannot colonize the skin. This definition of the normal skin microbiome lays the foundation for future studies with this model system.

Let S denote the class of functions that are analytic, normalized and univalent in the open unit disk E = {z: |z| S* and C respectively. A new subclass of analytic functions that generalize some known subclasses of analytic functions was defined and investigated. We obtained coefficient bounds, upper estimates for the Fekete-Szegö functional and the Hankel determinant.

Effect of HIV-1 Tat on Secretion of TNF-α and IL-1β by U87 Cells in AIDS Patients with or without AIDS Dementia Complex

Objective To explore the role of HIV-1 tat gene variations in AIDS dementia complex （ADC） pathogenesis. Methods HIV-1 tat genes derived from peripheral spleen and central basal ganglia of an AIDS patient with ADC and an AIDS patient without ADC were cloned for sequence analysis. HIV-1 tat gene sequence alignment was performed by using CLUSTAL W and the phylogentic analysis was conducted by using Neighbor-joining with MEGA4 software. All tat genes were used to construct recombinant retroviral expressing vector MSCV-IRES-GFP/tat. The MSCV-IRES-GFP/tat was cotransfected into 293T cells with pCMV-VSV-G and pUMVC vectors to assemble the recombinant retrovirus. After infection of gliomas U87 cells with equal amount of the recombinant retrovirus, TNF-α, and IL-1β concentrations in the supernatant of U87 cells were determined with ELISA. Results HIV-1 tat genes derived from peripheral spleen and central basal ganglia of the AIDS patient with ADC and the other one without ADC exhibited genetic variations. Tat variations and amino acid mutation sites existed mainly at Tat protein core functional area （38-47aa）. All Tat proteins could induce ug7 cells to produce TNF-α and IL-1β, but the level of IL-1β production was different among Tat proteins derived from the ADC patient＇s spleen, basal ganglia, and the non-ADC patient＇s spleen. The level of Tat proteins derived from the ADC patient＇s spleen, basal ganglia, and the non-ADC patient＇s spleen were obviously higher than that from the non-ADC patient＇s basal ganglia. Conclusion Tat protein core functional area （38-47aa） may serve as the key area of enhancing the secretion of IL-1β. This may be related with the neurotoxicity of HIV-1 Tat.

Background: Liver transplantation remains the main curative treatment option for hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) patients. In the Eurotransplant area Milan criteria are used to assign priority extra points(exceptional MELD, ex MELD) for patients on the waiting list. To prevent patients from tumor progression, loco-regional(neoadjuvant) treatment(LRT) is used. For patients unlikely to timely receive an organ via primary allocation,“extended critera donor(ECD) organs” are used. The present study aimed to investigate the survival after LT with a strategy of minimizing waiting list dropouts by using LRT for bridging and transplanting ECD organs if possible and necessary. Methods: Between October 2010 and May 2015, 50 liver transplants for HCC were included in this retrospective study. Of those, 42(84%) met the Milan criteria according to the preoperative radiological examination. Forty-one patients(82%) received LRT. The waiting time was analyzed according to LRT. Kaplan-Meier curves with log-rank statistics were used for survival analyses. Results: One-and five-year overall survival within Milan criteria was 94.3% and 83.7% compared with 91.7% and 67.9% beyond Milan criteria, though statistical significance was not reached( P = 0.487). LRT had no impact on overall survival( P = 0.629). Median waiting time was shorter if no LRT was performed(4.6 months vs. 1.5 months, P = 0.006) and there were no cases of waiting list dropouts. Using ECD organs had no impact on overall survival( P = 0.663). Conclusions: Patients with an expected waiting time to transplantation of > 6 months could be successfully treated with LRT as a bridge to transplant. Overall and disease-free survival for patients within and beyond Milan criteria was comparable and the use of ECD organs in this cohort of HCC patients proved to be a safe option.

We are concerned with the Cauchy problem regarding the full compressible Navier-Stokes equations in R^(d)(d=2,3).By exploiting the intrinsic structure of the equations and using harmonic analysis tools(especially the Littlewood-Paley theory),we prove the global solutions to this system with small initial data restricted in the Sobolev ***,the initial temperature may vanish at infinity.

In this article, we define the arithmetic operations of generalized trapezoidal picture fuzzy numbers by vertex method which is assembled on a combination of the (α, γ, β)-cut concept and standard interval analysis. Various related properties are explored. Finally, some computations of picture fuzzy functions over generalized picture fuzzy variables are illustrated by using our proposed technique.

Canopy and branch architectures in high-density orchards can be crucial in production and fruit quality. The influence of two canopy orientations (Upright and Tilted) in combination with two arm (branch) architectures (Shortened or Overlapped) on tree growth, yield components, fruit quality, and leaf mineral nutrients in an “Aztec Fuji” apple (Malus domestica Bork.) high-density orchard was studied over five years. Tilted trees with shortened arm configuration (TilShArm) always had significantly larger trunk cross-sectional area (TCSA) than Upright trees with an Overlapped arm configuration (UpOverArm) every year from 2012 to 2016. Trees with a TilShArm system had more cumulative fruit per tree than those with an Upright orientation. Trees with a tilted canopy (TilShArm and TilOverArm) tended to have higher yield per tree and yield per hectare than those with an upright system. Trees with a TilShArm system were more precocious and had more yield per tree than those with an upright canopy orientation in 2012. When values were polled over five years, trees with an upright canopy-shortened arm system (UpShArm) treatment had a lower biennial bearing index (BBI) than those with an upright canopy-overlapped system (UpOverArm). Trees receiving an arm shortening (UpShArm or TilShArm) configuration often had larger fruits than those with overlapped arms (UpOverArm and TilOverArm). Fruit from trees receiving an UpOverArm had higher fruit firmness than those from trees with other canopy-branch arrangements at harvest due to their smaller size. Fruit from trees with a TilShArm and TilOverArm had significantly higher water core and bitter pit but lower sunburn than trees with an upright canopy (UpShArm and UpOverArm). Leaves from trees with an UpOverArm canopy-branch configuration had the lowest leaf Ca but the highest leaf K and Fe concentrations among all treatments.
