The effects of exposure to pesticides on the fecundity status of farm workers resident in a rural region of Fars province,southern Iran

Objective:To investigate the prevalence of fecundity and other reproductive problems among a group of farmers in Kavar district of Fars province,southern ***:A total of 268 randomly selected married male farm workers were investigated.A questionnaire was devised and validated[Cronbach'sα-coefficient(0.81)].Subjects were directly interviewed and the questionnaire forms were completed for ***:The prevalence of current primary infertility aniong the studied population was about7.4%(P=0.001).Similarly,6.3%of farm workers had offsprings with congenital ***,1.5%and 9%of farmers'wives had a history of stillbirth and abortion,*** was concluded that the prevalence of current primary infertility were higher aniong farm workers families than in the normal population(P<0.05).Additionally,stillbirth and spontaneous abortion were more common in the wives of farm workers than in the normal population,although the difference did not reach statistical ***:These effects are likely to be attributed to the exposure of farm workers to pesticides.

Objective: To determine the diversity of sand flies in different biotopes of mountainous and plain areas of Bam County as the most infected focus of anthroponotic cutaneous leishmaniasis in southeast Iran, and synanthropic index of Phlebotomus sergenti Parrot, and Phlebotomus papatasi Scopoli as the main vectors of cutaneous leishmaniasis in ***: Sand flies were captured once a month using sticky traps in domestic, peri-domestic, agricultural, and sylvatic biotopes in the plain and mountainous areas. Alpha diversity indices, including richness, evenness, Shannon-Wiener;beta diversity indices(Jaccard’s and Sorensen’s similarity indices) and synanthropic index were calculated. Results: A total of 2 664 specimens of 9 sand fly species were collected from mountainous(47%) and plain(53%) areas. Species richness, species evenness, and Shannon-Wiener indices were obtained as 9, 0.637, and 1.399, respectively in the mountainous area. Phlebotomus sergenti and Phlebotomus papatasi were constant species with the synanthropic index of-18.463 and-29.412, respectively. In addition, species richness, species evenness, and Shannon-Wiener indices were 4, 0.690, and 0.956, respectively in the plain area. Phlebotomus sergenti and Phlebotomus papatasi were dominant species with the synanthropic index of +9.695 and +36.207, respectively. Similarity indices were low among different biotopes of plain and mountainous ***: A basic knowledge about the diversity of sand flies in various biotopes is essential to design sound control programs. Biodiversity and synanthropic indices of sand flies are different in plain and mountainous areas due to the difference in biotic and abiotic factors between the two areas.

The Dimbokro health district has one of the highest incidences of malaria in Côte d’Ivoire, despite numerous campaigns to distribute Long-Acting Impregnated Mosquito Nets (LLINs). Given this observation, what are the population’s attitudes towards LLINs that could explain the high endemicity of malaria in Dimbokro? The aim of this study is to assess the knowledge, attitudes and practices of people in the health area of Nofou, one of the villages in the Dimbokro health district where malaria is most prevalent, with a view to strengthening malaria control strategies. A collection of historical health data (malaria cases and LLIN usage rates) and a cross-sectional questionnaire survey was carried out from July 20 to August 03, 2022 in 400 households selected by systematic random sampling. Data were entered using Epi Info 7 and multivariate statistical analyses were performed using IBM SPSS 22 software. In the Dimbokro health district, the rate of LLIN use was negatively correlated (r = -0.771) with malaria incidence over the six years of historical data collection. Households had an average of 53% good knowledge, 68.6% good practices and 28.4% good attitudes towards LLINs. The study also revealed that the main factors explaining LLIN use in the Nofou health area are mosquito bite (ORa = 5.29 (1.12 - 25.04)), age of household members (ORa = 1.07 (1.01 - 1.14)) and marital status (ORa = 8.45 (1.70 - 45.02)). Awareness-raising on the use of LLINs should be intensified in the Dimbokro health district. Other control strategies, such as vector control and environmental sanitation, should be considered to combat malaria.

Objective:To estimate the infection of ticks to Anaplasma,Ehrlichia,Babesia,Theileria,and Brucellaceae using molecular methods in borderline of Iran,Azerbaijan,and ***:Totally,2022 ticks were collected from different ***,species were diagnosed under stereomicroscope according to valid morphological *** DNA was extracted followed by PCR to detect Anaplasma,Ehrlichia,Theileria,Babesia and Brucellaceae infection in ***:A total of 498 males[24.62%(95%CI 22.76%-26.57%)],741 females[36.64%(95%CI 34.54%-38.79%)],782 nymphs[38.67%(95%CI 36.55%-40.84%)]and 1 larva[0.04%(95%CI 0.00%-0.28%)]were *** identified samples,we found four genera including Hyalomma,Rhipicephalus,Haemaphysalis,and *** assay revealed that the prevalence of ticks to Anaplasma or Ehrlichia,and Brucellaceae was 22.02%(95%CI 16.01%-29.06%)and 15.03%(95%CI 9.43%-22.26%),*** analysis showed that the identified Anaplasma *** the most similarity with Anaplasma centrale,Anaplasma platys,Anaplasma camelii,and Anaplasma phagocytophilum,submitted in ***,the detected Ehrlichia *** Brucellaceae bacterium had the most similarity with Ehrlichia ruminantium and Mycoplana peli,***,no sign of the presence of Theileria and Babesia *** seen in the studied ***:Anaplasmosis,ehrlichiosis and brucellosis should be considered as important health threats in northwestern Iran and consistent monitoring on infection of ticks and livestock should be performed regularly.

We look at the link between climate change and vector-borne diseases in low- and middle-income countries in Africa. The large endemicity and escalating threat of diseases such as malaria and arboviral diseases, intensified by climate change, disproportionately affects vulnerable communities globally. We highlight the urgency of prioritizing research and development, advocating for robust scientific inquiry to promote adaptation strategies, and the vital role that the next generation of African research leaders will play in addressing these challenges. Despite significant challenges such as funding shortages within countries, various pan-African-oriented funding bodies such as the African Academy of Sciences, the Africa Research Excellence Fund, the Wellcome Trust, the U.S. National Institutes of health, and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation as well as initiatives such as the African Research Initiative for Scientific Excellence and the Pan-African Mosquito control Association, have empowered (or are empowering) these researchers by supporting capacity building activities, including continental and global networking, skill development, mentoring, and African-led research. This article underscores the urgency of increased national investment in research, proposing the establishment of research government agencies to drive evidence-based interventions. Collaboration between governments and scientific communities, sustained by pan-African funding bodies, is crucial. Through these efforts, African nations are likely to enhance the resilience and adaptive capacity of their systems and communities by navigating these challenges effectively, fostering scientific excellence and implementing transformative solutions against climate-sensitive vector-borne diseases.
