China, one of the most populous countries in the world, has suffered the highest number of natural disaster-related deaths from fire. On local scales, the main causes of urban fires are anthropogenic in ***, on regional to national scales, little is known about the indicators of large-scale co-varying urban fire activity in China. Here, we present the China Fire History Atlas(CFHA), which is based on 19 947documentary records and represents fires in urban areas of China over the twentieth century(1901–1994).We found that temperature variability is a key indicator of urban fire activity in China, with warmer temperatures being correlated with more urban fires, and that this fire–temperature relationship is seasonally and regionally explicit. In the early twentieth century, however, the fire–temperature relationship was overruled by war-related fires in large urban areas. We further used the fire–temperature relationship and multiple emissions scenarios to project fire activity across China into the twenty-first century. Our projections show a distinct increase in future urban fire activity and fire-related economic loss. Our findings provide insights into fire–climate relationships in China for densely-populated areas and on policy-relevant time scales and they contribute spatial coverage to efforts to improve global fire models.

Following surface rupture observations in populated areas affected by the KahramanmaraşEarthquake(Mw 7.7)on February 6th,2023,along the Pazarcık segment of the East Anatolian Fault Zone(EAFZ),this study presents novel insights into physical criteria for delineating surface fault-rupture hazard zones(SRHZs)along ruptured strike-slip *** achieve this objective,three trench studies across the surface rupture were conducted on the Pazarcık segment of the EAFZ to collect field data,and earthquake recurrence intervals were interpreted using Bayesian statistics from previously conducted paleoseismological *** results of the proposed model indicate that the Pazarcık segment produced five significant surface-rupturing earthquakes in the last∼11 kyr:E1:11.13±1.74 kyr,E2:7.62±1.20 kyr,E3:5.34±1.05 kyr,E4:1.82±0.93 kyr,and E5:0.35±0.11 *** addition,the recurrence intervals of destructive earthquakes on the subject in question range from 0.6 kyr to 4.8 *** that the last significant earthquake occurred in 1513,the longest time since the most recent surface fault rupturing earthquake on this particular segment was 511 *** results indicate that,in terms of the theoretical recurrence interval of earthquakes that can create surface ruptures on the Pazarcık segment,the period in which the February 6,2023,earthquake occurred was within the end of the expected return *** a result,the potential for a devastating earthquake in the near future is not foreseen on the same ***,the SRHZ proposed for the Pazarcık section of Gölbaşıvillage was calculated as a 61-meter-wide offset on the fault lineament to reduce the negativities that may occur in the ruptured area in the *** is recommended to take into account this width in the settlement of this area and nearby areas.

Micro/nanoplastics(MNPs)are detected in human liver,and pose significant risks to human *** exposure to MNPs derived from non-biodegradable plastics can induce toxicity in mouse ***,nasal exposure to non-biodegradable plastics can cause airway dysbiosis in ***,the hepatotoxicity induced by foodborne and airborne biodegradable MNPs remains poorly *** we show the hepatotoxic effects of biodegradable polylactic acid(PLA)MNPs through multi-omics analysis of various biological samples from mice,including gut,fecal,nasal,lung,liver,and blood *** results show that both foodborne and airborne PLA MNPs compromise liver function,disrupt serum antioxidant activity,and cause liver ***,foodborne MNPs lead to gut microbial dysbiosis,metabolic alterations in the gut and serum,and liver transcriptomic *** MNPs affect nasal and lung microbiota,alter lung and serum metabolites,and disrupt liver *** gut Lachnospiraceae_NK4A136_group is a potential biomarker for foodborne PLA MNP exposure,while nasal unclassified_Muribaculaceae and lung Klebsiella are potential biomarkers for airborne PLA MNP *** relevant results suggest that foodborne PLA MNPs could affect the“gut microbiota-gutliver”axis and induce hepatoxicity,while airborne PLA MNPs could disrupt the“airway microbiota-lungliver”axis and cause *** findings have implications for diagnosing PLA MNPs-induced hepatotoxicity and managing biodegradable materials in the *** current study could be a starting point for biodegradable MNPs-induced *** research is needed to verify and inhibit the pathways that are crucial to MNPs-induced hepatotoxicity.

Background Agriculture has greatly influenced water quality, habitats, and fish assemblages in streams of the Mississippi Alluvial Plain(MAP) ecoregion. However, MAP streams have historically been understudied compared to streams in other agricultural regions of the USA. In this study, water quality, habitat, and fish assemblage composition were assessed seasonally(spring, summer, and fall) in eight representative MAP streams located across three U.S. states. The study design included four streams containing highly agricultural watersheds(herein termed “agriculture” streams) and four streams containing mostly forested watersheds(herein termed “forest” streams), which were intended to represent reference conditions for MAP *** In general, forest streams contained significantly better instream and riparian habitats than agriculture streams(P = 0.010–0.040) whereas agriculture streams contained significantly greater levels of primary nutrients(P < 0.001–0.010). Differences between agriculture and forest streams with respect to other physical and chemical variables were intermittent and season dependent. Fish assemblages in agriculture and forest streams were structured primarily along an environmental gradient reflecting instream habitat conditions, water nutrient concentrations, and benthic chlorophyll-a production. Structurally, fish assemblages in both stream types contained many regionally common species, though some species appeared to exhibit affinities for a particular stream type. Functionally, fish assemblages in agriculture streams contained more tolerant species, more omnivores, and fewer insectivores compared to forest stream assemblages, which were nearly all insectivores. Bogie is a pivotal system and plays a critical part in the safety and reliability management of high-speed ***,the available bogie system reliability analysis methods lack the consideration of multi-state characteristics,and the common multi-state reliability analysis methods,being an NP-hard problem,lead to low *** order to overcome these drawbacks,this paper proposes a novel multi-state rail train bogie system reliability analysis approach based on the extended d-MC *** different function interactions within the bogie system are considered to build the multi-state bogie system flow network ***,an extended d-MC model is established to remove unnecessary d-MC candidates and duplicates,which greatly enhances the computing *** bogie system reliability is calculated,and examples are *** experiments are carried out for the different operational conditions of the bogie system and are used to test the practicability of the method proposed in this article;it is found that this method outperforms a newly developed method in solving multi-state reliability problems.

The alpine terrestrials of the Maloti-Drakensberg in southern Africa play crucial roles in ecosystem functions and livelihoods,yet they face escalating degradation from various factors including overgrazing and climate *** study employs advanced Digital Soil Mapping(DSM)techniques coupled with remote sensing to map and assess wetland coverage and degradation in the northern *** model achieved high accuracies of 96%and 92%for training and validation data,respectively,with Kappa statistics of 0.91 and 0.83,marking a pioneering automated attempt at wetland mapping in this *** attributes such as terrain wetness index(TWI)and valley depth(VD)exhibit significant positive correlations with wetland coverage and erosion gully density,Channel Network Depth and slope were negative *** density analysis revealed terrain attributes as dominant factors driving degradation,highlighting the need to consider catchment-specific susceptibility to *** challenge traditional assumptions which mainly attribute wetland degradation to external forces such as livestock overgrazing,ice rate activity and climate *** sensitivity map produced could serve as a basis for Integrated Catchment Management(ICM)projects,facilitating tailored conservation *** research should expand on this work to include other highland areas,explore additional covariates,and categorize wetlands based on hydroperiod and sensitivity to *** comprehensive study underscores the potential of DSM and remote sensing in accurately assessing and managing wetland ecosystems,crucial for sustainable resource management in alpine regions.

Roughly 1.2 billion tons of grain produced from maize(Zea mays)hybrids were harvested worldwide in 2022 on more than 200 million hectares(Food and Agricultural Organization statistics).Hybrid maize adapted to increased planting density,largely attributed to the upright angle of leaf blades,is a key factor for driving high grain yields over the last 50 years(Duvick et al.,2004).Leaf angle(LA)is a major breeding target for crop productivity due to its effects on canopy architecture,which impacts the amount of light intercepted by the leaf blade(Cao et al.,2022).

The joint optimization of production,maintenance,and quality control has shown effectiveness in reducing long-term operational costs in production ***,existing studies often assume that changes in the mean value of product quality characteristics in a deteriorating system follow a specific distribution while keeping variance *** address this limitation,we propose an innovative method based on the continuous ranking probability score(CRPS).This method enables the simultaneous detection of changes in mean and variance in nonconformities,thus removing the assumption of a specific distribution for quality *** approach focuses on developing optimal strategies for production,maintenance,and quality control to minimize cost per unit of ***,we employ a stochastic model to optimize the production time allocated to the inventory buffer,resulting in significant cost *** effectiveness of our proposed joint optimization method is demonstrated through comprehensive numerical experiments,sensitivity analysis,and a comparative *** results show that our method can achieve cost reductions compared to several other related methods,highlighting its practical applicability for manufacturing companies aiming to reduce costs.
