Despite most COVID-19 infections being asymptomatic,China's Mainland had a high increase in symptomatic cases at the end of *** this study,we examine China's sudden COVID-19 symptomatic surge using a conceptual SIR-based *** model considers the epidemiological characteristics of SARS-CoV-2,particularly variolation,from non-pharmaceutical intervention(facial masking and social distance),demography,and disease mortality in China's *** increase in symptomatic proportions in China may be attributable to(1)higher sensitivity and vulnerability during winter and(2)enhanced viral inhalation due to spikes in SARS-CoV-2 infections(high transmissibility).These two reasons could explain China's high symptomatic proportion of COVID-19 in December *** study,therefore,can serve as a decision-support tool to enhance SARS-CoV-2 prevention and control ***,we highlight that facemask-induced variolation could potentially reduces transmissibility rather than severity in infected ***,further investigation is required to understand the variolation effect on disease severity.

Effect of Essential Oil on Patients with Chronic Prostatitis/Chronic Pelvic Pain Syndrome: A Pilot Randomized Controlled Trial

Objective: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of essential oil treatment for type Ⅲ chronic prostatitis/chronic pelvic pain syndrome(CP/CPPS). Methods: A randomized controlled trial was conducted from December 2014 to October 2015. Seventy type Ⅲ CP/CPPS patients were assigned to the essential oil group(35 cases) or almond placebo oil control group(35 cases) by a random number table. The oil was smeared by self-massage on the suprapubic and sacral region once a day for 4 weeks. The National Institutes of Health Chronic Prostatitis Syndrome Index(NIH-CPSI) and expressed prostatic secretions(EPS) were examined. The primary outcome was NIH-CPSI pain domain. The secondary outcomes included other NIH-CPSI domains and laboratory examinations of EPS. Adverse events were also observed. Results: Sixty-six subjects completed the full 4-week treatment. There was no significant difference between almond oil control and essential oil groups in terms of the total score of NIH-CPSI, pain, quality of life and urination domain scores of NIH-CPSI and EPS examinations(P>0.05). In the essential oil group, pain between rectum and testicles(perineum) in the domain of pain or discomfort was significantly reduced at week 2 and week 4 compared with almond oil control group(P<0.01). No serious adverse events occurred. Conclusion: The essential oil may reduce the pain or discomfort in the perineum region in patients with CP/CPPS.

High Sensitivity of Shotgun Metagenomic Sequencing in Colon Tissue Biopsy by Host DNA Depletion

The high host genetic background of tissue biopsies hinders the application of shotgun metagenomic sequencing in characterizing the tissue *** proposed an optimized method that removed host DNA from colon biopsies and examined the effect on metagenomic *** or mouse colon biopsies were divided into two groups,with one group undergoing host DNA depletion and the other serving as the *** DNA was removed through differential lysis of mammalian and bacterial cells before *** impact of host DNA depletion on microbiota was compared based on phylogenetic diversity analyses and regression *** host DNA enhanced bacterial sequencing depth and improved species discovery,increasing bacterial reads by 2.46±0.20 folds while reducing host reads by 6.80%±1.06%.Moreover,2.40 times more of bacterial species were detected after host DNA *** was confirmed from mouse colon tissues,increasing bacterial reads by 5.46±0.42 folds while decreasing host reads by 10.2%±0.83%.Similarly,significantly more bacterial species were detected in the mouse colon tissue upon host DNA depletion(P<0.001).Furthermore,an increased microbial richness was evident in the host DNA-depleted samples compared with non-depleted controls in human colon biopsies and mouse colon tissues(P<0.001).Our optimized method of host DNA depletion improves the sensitivity of shotgun metagenomic sequencing in bacteria detection in the biopsy,which may yield a more accurate taxonomic profile of the tissue microbiota and identify bacteria that are important for disease initiation or progression.

Buildings account for 40% of global energy consumption and nearly one-third of global CO_(2) emissions;and the resulting carbon footprint significantly exceeds that of all forms of transportation combined. Attractive opportunities exist to reduce buildings’ energy use at lower costs and higher returns than in other sectors. This paper analyzes the concerns of uncertainty, in terms of transaction costs, to the real estate developers when they make decisions about investing in Building Energy Efficiency (BEE). To solicit views of developers regarding BEE investment, in-depth interviews were conducted with 15 executives and architects who work in big real estate development firms covering 80% of real estate activities in hong kong. This research applies transaction cost economics (TCE) to study the underlying reasons resulting from uncertainty that cause market reluctance to accept BEE by choice. It provides a detailed analysis of the current situation and future prospects for BEE adoption through studying the impacts from three aspects: economic, market and policy uncertainties. It delineates the market and suggests possible policy solutions to overcome the uncertainties and to attain the large-scale deployment of energy-efficient building techniques. The findings establish the groundwork for future studies on how to choose a particular policy package and what roles government should play to solve the existing problems in BEE development.

Changing Connectivities of Chinese Cities in the World City Network,2010–2016

Against the backdrop of the sizable economic growth of China in recent years, this paper uses the most recent data gathering of the Globalization and World Cities(Ga WC) research network to update and supplement earlier research on the shifting global connectivity of Chinese cities. The update consists of an evaluation of the connectivity of Chinese cities in 2016, the supplement of an analysis of the changing position of Chinese cities in the world city network between 2010 and 2016. To this end, we build on a specification of the world city network as an ‘interlocking network' in which producer services firms play the crucial role in city network formation. Information about the presence of leading producer services firms in cities in 2010 and 2016 is used as the input to a bipartite network projection algorithm in order to measure cities' network connectivity. The first set of results discusses the geographies of urban connectivity in the world city network in 2016. The second set of results discusses standardized measures of change to reveal the major dimensions of the transformations between 2010 and 2016. We find that, with the exception of hong kong, Macao and Kaohsiung of Taiwan, all Chinese cities record connectivity gains. This wholesale rise in connectivity is nonetheless geographically uneven, with above all Beijing, Chengdu/Chongqing and Changsha/Wuhan becoming more connected. We conclude that the wholesale rise of Chinese cities in the world city network and their changing trajectories in the post-crisis era are embedded in shifting external and internal political economies.
