A case is made for further developing a branch of systems engineering that focuses on problems and issues which arise in the service sector. We promulgate this special focus not only because of the size and importance of the service sector but also because of the unique opportunities that systems engineering can exploit in the design and joint production and delivery of services. We begin by considering the economic, technological and demographic contexts within which the service sector has flourished; we then address both services, especially emerging services, and systems engineering, followed by a discussion of how to advance the field of service systems engineering, and concluding with several remarks. In particular, a number of service systems engineering methods are identified to enhance the design and production/delivery of services, especially taking advantage of the unique features that characterize services - namely, services, especially emerging services, are information-driven, customer-centric, e-oriented, and productivity-focused.

Macroscopic fluorescence lifetime imaging(MFLI)via compressed sensed(Cs)measurements enables efficient and accurate quantification of molecular interactions in vivo over a large field of view(FOV).However,the current dataprocessing workflow is slow,complex and performs poorly under photon-starved *** this paper,we propose Net-FLICs,a novel image reconstruction method based on a convolutional neural network(CNN),to directly reconstruct the intensity and lifetime images from raw time-resolved Cs *** carefully designing a large simulated dataset,Net-FLICs is successfully trained and achieves ou.s.a.ding reconstruction performance on both in vitro and in vivo experimental data and even superior results at low photon count levels for lifetime quantification.

We present a high performance modularly-built open-source *** is a C++implementation of the modified immersed finite element method(mIFEM)to solve fluid-structure interaction(FsI)*** software is modularly built to perform multiple tasks including fluid dynamics(incompressible and slightly compressible fluid models),linear and nonlinear solid mechanics,and fully coupled fluid-structure *** of open-source software packages are restricted to certain discretization methods;some are under-tested,under-documented,and lack modularity as well as *** is designed and built to include a set of generic classes for users to adapt so that any fluid and solid solvers can be coupled through the FsI *** addition,the package utilizes well-developed and tested *** also comes with standard test cases that serve as software and algorithm *** software can be built on cross-platform,i.e.,Linux,Windows,and Mac Os,using *** parallelization is also implemented for high-performance computing for large-sized *** is documented using Doxygen and publicly available to download on *** is expected to benefit the future development of FsI algorithms and be applied to a variety of FsI applications.

To enrich the diversity of artificial neurons,a type of quadratic neurons was proposed previously,where the inner product of inpu.s.a.d weights is replaced by a quadratic *** this paper,we demonstrate the superiority of such quadratic neurons over conventional *** this purpose,we train such quadratic neural networks using an adapted backpropagation algorithm and perform a systematic comparison between quadratic and conventional neural networks for classificaiton of Gau.s.a. mixture data,which is one of the most important machine learning *** results show that quadratic neural networks enjoy remarkably better efficacy and efficiency than conventional neural networks in this context,and potentially extendable to other relevant applications.

We demonstrate three-dimensional tomographic imaging vising a Fresnel lens with broadband terahertz pulses. Objects at various locations along the beam propagation path are uniquely imaged on the same imaging plane using a Fresnel lens with different frequencies of the imaging beam. This procedure allows the reconstruction of an object's tomographic contrast image by assembling the frequency-dependent images.

One example of an artificial intelligence ethical dilemma is the autonomous vehicle situation presented by Massachusetts institute of Technology researchers in the Moral Machine *** solve such dilemmas,the MIT researchers used a classic statistical method known as the hierarchical Bayesian(HB)*** paper builds upon previous work for modeling moral decision making,applies a deep learning method to learn human ethics in this context,and compares it to the HB *** methods were tested to predict moral decisions of simulated populations of Moral Machine ***,test results indicate that deep neural networks can be effective in learning the group morality of a population through observation,and outperform the Bayesian model in the cases of model mismatches.
