Stable PbS colloidal quantum dot inks enable blade‑coating infrared solar cells

Infrared solar cells are more efective than normal bandgap solar cells at reducing the spectral loss in the near-infrared region,thus also at broadening the absorption spectra and improving power conversion *** colloidal quantum dots(QDs)with tunable bandgap are ideal infrared photovoltaic ***,QD solar cell production sufers from small-areabased spin-coating fabrication methods and unstable QD ***,the QD ink stability mechanism was fully investigated according to Lewis acid–base theory and colloid stability *** further studied a mixed solvent system using dimethylformamide and butylamine,compatible with the scalable manufacture of method-blade *** on the ink system,100 cm2 of uniform and dense near-infrared PbS QDs(~0.96 eV)flm was successfully prepared by blade *** average efciencies of above absorber-based devices reached 11.14%under AM1.5G illumination,and the 800 nm-fltered efciency achieved 4.28%.Both were the top values among blade coating method based *** newly developed ink showed excellent stability,and the device performance based on the ink stored for 7 h was similar to that of fresh *** matched solvent system for stable PbS QD ink represents a crucial step toward large area blade coating photoelectric devices.

Fishing activities,species composition,seasonal availability,distributions and importance of mud crab fisheries were studied in Pak Phanang mangroves,Nakhon Si Thamarat,*** study was conducted from May 2006 to May 2007 to reveal the present status,the role of mud crab fisheries to local level and some biological aspects for better management of this valuable resource. With the questionnaire survey and group discussions,samples were taken from the local fishermen as well as local traders to accomplish the mentioned *** were 95%people in the fishermen colony that formed inside of the mangroves,solely depended on mud crab *** mud crab species recorded from the study area in which Scylla olivacea and Scylla paramamosain formed 46% and 40%of total specimens,*** third species *** was noticed in each sampling time but in small *** the dry season,*** harvested higher than *** which showed higher in *** samples,males outnumbered females by 1:*** crabs were ranged carapace width of 50-130 mm with body weight of 25-490 g,while 80%population was within the carapace width of 75-105 *** total annual catch and monetary value ranges were 113-188 tons yearand US(?)1.71-2.85 million respectively that represent the production ranged of 16-20 kg·*** the increasing fishing pressure and environmental pollution,mud crab resource has declined from earlier period but still crab fishing is a major source of food and prosperity to the local people.

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease as a risk factor for lung cancer

The association between chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(COPD) and lung cancer has long been a subject of intense debate. The high prevalence of COPD in elderly smokers inevitably strengthens their coincidence. In addition to this contingent coincidence, recent studies have revealed a close association between the two diseases that is independent of the smoking history; that is, the existence of COPD is an independent risk factor for the development of lung cancer. Molecular-based evidence has been accumulating as a result of the efforts to explain the underlying mechanisms of this association. These mechanisms may include the following: the retention of airborne carcinogens followed by the activation of oncogenes and the suppression of tumor suppressor genes; the complex molecular mechanism associated with chronic inflammation in the distal airways of patients with COPD; the possible in-volvement of putative distal airway stem cells; and gel netic factors that are common to both COPD and lung cancer. The existence of COPD in patients with lung l cancer may potentially affect the process of diagnosis, surgical resection, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, and end-of-life care. The comprehensive management of COPD is extremely important for the appropriate treatment of lung cancer. Surgical resections with the aid of early interventions for COPD are often possible, even for patients with mild-to-moderate COPD. New challenges, such as lung cancer CT screening for individuals t at high risk, are now in the process of being implemented. Evaluating the risk of lung cancer in patients with COPD may be warranted in community-based lung cancer screening.

The ＂MIZBERING＂ Zuibaiji Conference - A Search for Continuity in the Zuibaiji River Basin-

The Zuibaiji River is located in the west of Fukuoka city, which has a rich natural resources and history but various problems as well. In order to solve some of these problems, stakeholders need to observe and talk about the river. Also recently, the ＂MIZBERING Project＂ has been opening up possibilities for renewing riverside uses of lost activities from the old days in Japan. This project is being conducted by citizens, companies and government administrations with an interest in waterside areas. The First MIZBER1NG Zuibaiji River Conference was held to discuss the issues of the Zuibaiji Basin. Its purpose was to visit and search out the nature and history of the entire Zuibaiji Basin from its mountains to the sea and to rediscover the Zuibaiji Basin, and finally to discuss future plans for the Zuibaiji Basin and Imazu Tidal Flat at its outlet. After visiting the Zuibaiji Basin, we discovered a problem that the Zubaiji Dam is holding not only water but also sand, and this problem affects the environment of the Zuibaiji Basin, such as its ecosystem and topography. Finally, we provided a venue for the local people to discuss problems and future plans for the Zuibaiji Basin.

Energy-saving strategy for a transport bed flash calcination process applied to magnesite

A transport bed flash calcination(TBFC)process applied to magnesite is systematically investigated through process simulation to optimize the energy-saving *** high-temperature calciner flue gas is used to preheat the fed magnesite,while the sensible heat with the caustic calcined magnesia(CCM)product is cooled by air sent to the ***-decomposition of magnesite during preheating is considered on basis of the kinetics measured using a micro fluidized bed reaction analyzer that allows the minimized effect of external diffusion on *** staged fuel gas supply the TBFC process allows the equivalence ratios around 1.2 for *** preferred arrangement of stages for magnesite preheating and CCM cooling are respectively 4 and 2,leading to the energy consumption of 4100 kJ/kg-CCM and the energy efficiency of 66.8%,which is almost doubly higher than the 33.9%of the conventional reverberatory furnaces(RF).The pre-decomposition occurs mainly in the 1st-stage preheater,and the maximal conversion is about 13%.Varying the stages of preheating appears more influential on the energy saving than varying the cooling stages,while residence time above 1 s in the preheaters has limited effect.

Axis-symmetric Onsager clustered states of point vortices in a bounded domain

We study axis-symmetric Onsager clustered states of a neutral point vortex system confined to a two-dimensional disc. Our analysis is based on the mean field of bounded point vortices in the microcanonical ensemble. The clustered vortex states are specified by the inverse temperature β and the rotation frequency ω, which are the conjugate variables of energy E and angular momentum L,respectively. The formation of the axis-symmetric clustered vortex states(azimuthal angle independent) involves the separating of vortices with opposite circulation and the clustering of vortices with the same circulation around the origin and edge. The state preserves SO(2) symmetry while breaking Z_2 symmetry. We find that, near the uniform state, the rotation-free clustered state(ω = 0) emerges at particular values of L^(2)/E and β. At large energies, we obtain asymptotically exact vortex density distributions, whose validity condition gives rise to the lower bound of β for the rotation-free states. Noticeably, the obtained vortex density distribution near the edge at large energies provides a novel exact vortex density distribution for the corresponding chiral vortex system.

Prospect of Fuelwood Plantations for Marginal Small Tea Farmers: A Case Study in Matara and Badulla Districts, Sri Lanka

This study demonstrates the importance of conversion of tea farms in marginal land to fuelwood plantation by analyzing the current biophysical, economic and institutional pros and cons of each land uses for marginal small tea plantation holders (MSTH). The study is based on household survey and field investigation conducted in Matara and Badulla Districts of Sri Lanka. Both qualitative and quantitative data on important biophysical, economic and institutional factors was collected from a total of 81 MSTH, 50 from Matara and 31 from Badulla, and fuelwood consuming industries within 20 km of the study area. The result showed that MSTH are facing biophysical and economic problems that are forcing them to leave portion of their tea planation land uncultivated. With ongoing demand increase for fuelwood, presence of tree species already adaptable to the area and favorable property right condition, conversion of the existing marginal land to fuelwood plantation is a viable way to sustainably manage the MSTH farmland. This will also contribute to tackle environmental disasters the area is frequently facing due to abandoning of the marginal tea plantation land.

Stability and Refolding of Prophenol Oxidase Protein with 2-Propanol in Drosophila melanogaster

Phenol oxidase in Drosophila melanogaster occurs as folded phase precursors designated as prophenol oxidase A1 and A3, and prophenol oxidase is activated with alcohol, especially 2-propanol, within a few minutes as unfolded-phase in vitro. To clarify a common effect of alcohols on proteins and peptides, the extract containing prophenol oxidase protein was prepared. Phenol oxidase activity activated with 2-propanol has been maintained stable at least 24 hours remains as it is. Protein of prophenol oxidase was not denatured opposite hypnoses known as the instability of protein with alcohol. Activated prophenol oxidase with 2-propanol remain enzyme activity with no aggregation, stable, renaturation, and the refolding phenomena occurred around the active phase within the catalytic active center of prophenol oxidase protein in Drosophila melanogaster. This study is important to induce the wide range applications of the effect in many fields for rational drag design.

A special kind of local structure in the CMB intensity maps: duel peak structure

We study the local structure of Cosmic Microwave Background （CMB） temperature maps released by the Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe （WMAP） team, and find a new kind of structure, which can be described as follows： a peak （or valley） of average temperature is often followed by a peak of temperature fluctuation that is 4° away. This structure is important for the following reasons： both the well known cold spot detected by Cruz et al. and the hot spot detected by Vielva et al. with the same technology （the third spot in their article） have such structure; more spots that are similar to them can be found on CMB maps and they also tend to be significant cold/hot spots; if we change the 4° characteristic into an artificial one, such as 3° or 5°, there will be less ＂similar spots＂, and the temperature peaks or valleys will be less significant. The presented ＂sim- ilar spots＂ have passed a strict consistency test which requires them to be significant on at least three different CMB temperature maps. We hope that this article could arouse some interest in the relationship of average temperature with temperature fluctuation in local areas; meanwhile, we are also trying to find an explanation for it which might be important to CMB observation and theory.
