Role of copper chelating agents: between old applications and new perspectives in neuroscience

The role of copper element has been an increasingly relevant topic in recent years in the fields of human and animal health, for both the study of new drugs and innovative food and feed supplements. This metal plays an important role in the central nervous system, where it is associated with glutamatergic signaling, and it is widely involved in inflammatory processes. Thus, diseases involving copper(Ⅱ) dyshomeostasis often have neurological symptoms, as exemplified by Alzheimer's and other diseases(such as Parkinson's and Wilson's diseases). Moreover, imbalanced copper ion concentrations have also been associated with diabetes and certain types of cancer, including glioma. In this paper, we propose a comprehensive overview of recent results that show the importance of these metal ions in several pathologies, mainly Alzheimer's disease, through the lens of the development and use of copper chelators as research compounds and potential therapeutics if included in multi-target hybrid drugs. Seeing how copper homeostasis is important for the well-being of animals as well as humans, we shortly describe the state of the art regarding the effects of copper and its chelators in agriculture, livestock rearing, and aquaculture, as ingredients for the formulation of feed supplements as well as to prevent the effects of pollution on animal productions.

Stepwise multiple regression method of greenhouse gas emission modeling in the energy sector in Poland

The energy sector in Poland is the source of 81% of greenhouse gas（GHG） emissions. Poland,among other European Union countries, occupies a leading position with regard to coal consumption. Polish energy sector actively participates in efforts to reduce GHG emissions to the atmosphere, through a gradual decrease of the share of coal in the fuel mix and development of renewable energy sources. All evidence which completes the knowledge about issues related to GHG emissions is a valuable source of information. The article presents the results of modeling of GHG emissions which are generated by the energy sector in Poland. For a better understanding of the quantitative relationship between total consumption of primary energy and greenhouse gas emission, multiple stepwise regression model was applied. The modeling results of CO2 emissions demonstrate a high relationship（0.97） with the hard coal consumption variable. Adjustment coefficient of the model to actual data is high and equal to 95%. The backward step regression model, in the case of CH4 emission, indicated the presence of hard coal（0.66）, peat and fuel wood（0.34）, solid waste fuels, as well as other sources（- 0.64） as the most important variables. The adjusted coefficient is suitable and equals R2= 0.90. For N2 O emission modeling the obtained coefficient of determination is low and equal to 43%. A significant variable influencing the amount of N2 O emission is the peat and wood fuel consumption.

Grain security is one of the most important issues *** developing countries,including China,have adopted the Agriculture Support Price(ASP)program to stimulate farmers’enthusiasm for growing grain,to ensure self-sufficiency in grain and the stable development of the grain *** propose decision support for the government in designing a more reasonable support price in the ASP program,we formulate an agent-based model to simulate the operation of the wheat market in the harvest *** formulate the formation process of the market price influenced by farmers’expected sale price,processors’expected purchase price,and the ASP,the time series and regression methods are *** on the proposed market price model,to quantitatively analyze the grain transaction process and the ASP program’s impacts on market agents,we develop an agent-based simulation model to describe the adaptive evolution and interaction among market ***,we validate and implement the simulation model with public wheat market ***,insights and suggestions about the decision of the ASP program are provided.

BACKGROUND Extramedullary plasmacytoma(EMP)represents one of the rarer forms of plasma cell malignancies,capable of impacting a variety of tissues and organs throughout the *** majority of EMP cases are predominantly found in the head and neck region,especially within the laryngopharynx,as well as in the gastrointestinal *** there have been documented instances of oropharyngeal involvement in EMP cases in the academic literature,it is important to note that EMP specifically affecting the uvula is exceedingly ***,it is noteworthy that over 60% of epithelial carcinomas in the upper respiratory tract and oropharynx tend to metastasize to the cervical lymph nodes,indicating a propensity for regional spread in these types of *** this context,we present a rare case of extramedullary plasmacytoma where the uvula served as the initially affected *** case emphasizes the need for heightened awareness among clinicians regarding such unusual comorbidities,as early recognition and diagnosis can significantly influence patient management and treatment *** addition,a review of the relevant literature is included to further educate and inform healthcare professionals about this rare presentation,ultimately aiming to enhance clinical understanding and improve patient care in similar *** SUMMARY A 51-year-old man was admitted to our hospital because of a slowly enlarging neck mass.A physical examination revealed a palpable left lymph node,and magnetic resonance imaging(MRI)of the oropharynx and the neck showed a soft tissue mass in the oropharynx and enlargement of multiple lymph nodes in the *** soft tissue mass was diagnosed as plasmacytoma by immunohistochemical *** immunoglobulins and bone marrow biopsy showed normal ***,we diagnosed that as EMP of the *** four cycles of adjuvant chemotherapy dominated by bortezomib,MRI reexamination showed a significant reduction of the mass

Forecasting Container Throughput of Qingdao Port with a Hybrid Model

This paper proposes a hybrid forecasting method to forecast container throughput of Qingdao *** eliminate the influence of outliers,local outlier factor(lof) is extended to detect outliers in time series,and then different dummy variables are constructed to capture the effect of outliers based on domain ***,a hybrid forecasting model combining projection pursuit regression(PPR) and genetic programming(GP) algorithm is ***,the hybrid model is applied to forecasting container throughput of Qingdao Port and the results show that the proposed method significantly outperforms ANN,SARIMA,and PPR models.

Housing Price Fluctuations Across China:An Equilibrium Mechanism Perspective

The mechanisms affecting housing prices were studied using the equilibrium housing prices based on classic supply/demand theory. The fluctuations of the actual housing prices were then analyzed relative to the equilibrium prices. The equilibrium prices for each area were calculated from economic statistics and housing prices in 35 China metropolitan areas. The fluctuations of the actual prices are then manifested as functions of the equilibrium price, the mean reversion, and the autocorrelation coefficient. The results show that the equilibrium prices are determined by the basic economic conditions in China and that the equilibrium prices greatly affect the fluctuation of the actual prices, which return to the equilibrium price through self-adjustments. The data also shows that the actual prices in China have the trend of continuing to rise in the future.

Evaluation of the antiulcer activity of Olax suhscorpioidea *** in rats

Objective:To evaluated the antiulcer activity of the methanolic root extract of the plant Olax subscorpioidea in experimental ***:Phytochemical tests and acute toxicity tests were carried out on its methanolic root ***-treatments with three doses of the extract（200,400 and 600 mg/kg body weight orally） and Sucralfate at 100 mg/kg orally were used for the various groups of *** indomethacin and ethanol models for experimental induction of ulcers in rats were *** ulcer indices were measured and percentage inhibition was ***: Phytochemistry revealed presence of alkaloids,steroids,glycosides and terpenoids and the extract showed an LD50 of 2 154 mg/kg in *** was produced in all the rats in both models with the extract showing potent antiulcer activity of ethanol *** was no significant ulcer inhibition by any of the treatments compared to control group in the indomethacin model but the extract’s antiulcer effect was dose-dependent（11.8%,19.2%,32.7%,P>0.05）.The ulcer reduction in the ethanol model was significant ulcer reduction in the highest dose group and Sucralfate group compared to control group（79.3%and 82.9%,P <0.05）.However,the extract at all dosage showed a dose-dependent ulcer inhibition in this ***:The above results suggest that the roots of Olax subscorpioidea possess antiulcer activity in experimental rats as claimed by traditional users.

Antiulcer activity of methanolic extract and fractions of Picralima nitida seeds(Apocynacaea) in rats

Objective:To investigated the antisecrectory activities of the methanol extract,chloroform fraction and methanol fraction of Picralima nitida ***:The methanol extract of Picralima nitida seeds was fractionated into chloroform fraction and methanol *** were evaluated for antiulcer activity and gastric emptying time in rats using aspirin-pylorus-ligation ***:Oral administration of the methanol extract,chloroform fraction and methanol fraction at 1 000 mg/kg reduced gastric ulcer by 56.4%,40.0%and 56.3%,respectively;and the fractions of the extract significantly(P<0.05) reduced gastric emptying time when compared to the *** acidity was significandy decreased when compared with saline group,40.25 mEq/ L in methanol extract,50.0 mEq/L in chloroform fraction 51.25 mEq/L in methanol fration but had no significant effect on the gastric secretion ***:These findings showed that methanol extract,chloroform fraction and methanol fraction of the seeds of Picralima possessed potent antiulcer properties and some antisecretory properties.

In vitro and in vivo cytochrome P450 3A enzyme inhibition by Aframomum melengueta and Dennettia tripetala extracts

Objective: To evaluate the in vitro and in vivo inhibitory effects of two commonly used herbs, Aframomum melengueta(A. melengueta) and Dennettia tripetala(D. tripetala) on CYP 3A enzymes. Methods: In vitro inhibition of the enzymes were assessed with microsomes extracted from female albino rats using erythromycin-N-demethylation assay(EMND) method while their in vivo effects were measured by estimating simvastatin plasma concentrations in rats. Pharmacokinetic parameters were determined using non-compartmental anaysis as implemented in Win Nonlin pharmacokinetic program. Results: EMND assay with intestinal microsomes indicated that aqueous extracts of D. tripetala and A. melengueta significantly(P < 0.05) inhibited intestinal CYP 3A activity at both 50 μg and 100 μg concentrations. Petroleum ether extract of D. tripetala and ethanol extracts of A. melengueta inhibited intestinal CYP3 A activity at 100 μg but not at 50 μg concentrations. All the extracts showed an in vitrodose dependent CYP 3A inhibition with liver microsomes. In vivo analysis showed that pretreatment with the extracts enhanced systemic absorption of simvastatin with reductions in metabolizing enzymes activity as indicated in significant increases in maximal concentration, area under curve, area under moment curve and mean resident time of simvastatin(P < 0.05). Conclusions: Herbal preparations containing these plants' extracts should be used with caution especially in patients on CYP450 3A substrate medications.
