The present work examines the use of a non-edible vegetable oil namely honne oil,a new possible source of alternative fuel for diesel engine.A Direct Injection(DI)diesel engine typically used in agricultural sector was operated on Neat Diesel(ND)and neat honne oil(H100).At maximum load,with H100,brake thermal efficiency and NOx emission decreased where as emissions like CO,HC,smoke opacity *** H100,peak cylinder pressure and maximum rate of pressure rise decreased compared to *** H100,occurrence of peak pressure is away from top dead center compared to *** H100,ignition delay and combustion duration increased compared to ND.

Ship auxiliary engines contribute large amounts of air pollutants when at ***,including that from waste cooking oil(WCO),can favor a reduction in the emission of primary pollutant when used with internal combustion *** study investigated the emissions of gaseous intermediate-volatile organic compounds(IVOCs)between WCO biodiesel and marine gas oil(MGO)to further understand the differences in secondary organic aerosol(SOA)production of *** revealed that WCO exhaust exhibited similar IVOC composition and volatility distribution to MGO exhaust,despite the differences between fuel *** WCO biodiesel could reduce IVOC emissions by 50%as compared to MGO,and thus reduced the SOA production from *** compositions and volatility distributions of exhaust IVOCs varied to those of their fuels,implying that fuel-component-based SOA predicting model should be used with more cautions when assessing SOA production of WCO and MGO *** biodiesel is a cleaner fuel comparing to conventional MGO on ship auxiliary engines with regard to the reductions in gaseous IVOC emissions and corresponding SOA *** the tests were conducted on test bench,the results could be considered as representative due to the widely applications of the test engine and MGO fuel on real-world ships.

Honne oil(tamanu)(H),a non-edible vegetable oil is native for northwards of Northern Marianas islands and the Ryukyu Islands in southern Japan and westward throughout *** has remained as an untapped new possible source of alternative fuel that can be used as diesel engine *** pertaining to use of vegetable oil in diesel engine with kerosene and dimethyl carbonate(DMC)is *** present research is aimed to investigate experimentally the performance,exhaust emission and combustion characteristics of a direct injection(DI)diesel engine,typically used in agricultural sector,over the entire load range,when fuelled with neat diesel(ND)and blends of diesel fuel(D)/DMC/H/kerosene(K).DMC/D/H/K blends have a potential to improve the performance and emissions and to be an alternative to *** have been conducted when fuelled with H20(20%H+80%D),HK(20%H+40%K+40%D)and HKD5(20%H+40%K+35D+5%DMC)to HKD15 in steps of 5%DMC keeping H and K percentages *** emissions(CO,HC and smoke density(SD))of fuel blend HKD15 are found to be lowest,with SD dropping *** NOx level is slightly higher with HKD5 to HKD15 as compared to *** brake thermal efficiency of HKD5 to HKD15 is same and it is higher than that of *** is a good trade off between NOx and *** cylinder pressure and premixed combustion phase increases as DMC content increase.

Fuel cell powered vehicles have been developed as another alternative to internal combustion engine powered vehicles for some applications including passenger cars, buses, trains, motorcycles, forklifts, electric wheelchairs, electric trolleybuses, medical carts, military engines, personal sports craft, mobility devices and other self propelled equipment. Up to now, many researches have focused on the development of the power module in the Fuel cell vehicles (FCVs) and the components of these systems such as membranes, bipolar plates, and electrodes. However, our work in this study focuses on operating the integrated fuel cell power module system efficiently for various operating conditions such as pressure, relative humidity and operating modes. In our validation we have utilized PEMFC single cell, with active area geometry 16 cm2 and of 120 cm2. Some results obtained in our study shown significant performance indicators for PEMFC stack (composed of 2 cells and 4 cells in a series) at different humidification levels.

Particulate matter pollution is a serious environmental problem which influencing air quality,regional and global climates,and humanhealth in *** year of fine aerosol samples(PM) were collected at Guanzhong Plain with six sampling sites in different cities from March2012 to *** 24-h average mass concentration of PM was 134.7μg/m,which was high enough to raise serious concerns over the air quality in Guanzhong *** of the six sites exhibited highest OC and EC values in winter,and EC levels always varied with OC concentrations and the variabilityin OC was *** contributions of secondary species SO,NO and NH in total ions were greatest,and the high concentrations in winter were mainly due to emissions from coalcombustion and biomass *** autumn the haze days were severest in Xi’an city with similar tendency of PMvariations,and it was proved that biomass burning was the main emission source of the regional *** winter pollution episodes,the pollution patterns in Guanzhong Plain are similar which were resulted from strong secondary reactions and coal *** addition,mitigating primary particulate emissions including incomplete combustion of coal andbiomass,engine exhaust,and fugitive dust,reducing the emissionsof secondary aerosol precursors including SO,NO,and NH are both importantfor reducing the environmental,economic and health impacts from PM pollutions.

In automobile engines,it is commonly known that the proper removal of the excess heat,resulting from internal combustion,is of high significance in the prevention of numerous negative *** this regard,the radiator has a pivotal role as the main component of the engine’s cooling ***,its design and analysis are highly important,requiring more comprehensive failure and flow *** this work,a Scania radiator is examined under the thermal and mechanical loads,followed by its analysis under the combined thermomechanical ***,the flow characteristics,including the velocity,pressure,and enthalpy,are *** this regard,PTC-Creo software is *** results demonstrate that thermal stress causes seven times more displacement than a mechanical *** they are combined,this value reaches 1.5 ***,the maximum failure index value of the Tresca theory is around 4.58,observed at the inlet side of the ***,this paper indicates that the PTC-Creo can be considered a reliable and economical tool for the simulation of industrial applications,such as the considered radiator of a heavy-duty cooling system.

Turbochargers have been known in compression ignition engines for power *** trends in power generation through gas cycles have recorded successes via turbochargers application in spark ignition engines as *** power cycles are turbocharged,there is a general expectation of a higher power and performance output from the cycle as compared to when they are naturally *** research was conducted to estimate the thermodynamic properties of a spark ignition engine power generating system when it is both naturally aspirated and when the same system is turbocharged to 2.5 times the amount of air in natural *** fuel was employed for petrol approximation during this *** system process was broken down into stages of charging between natural aspiration and turbocharged;thus MATLAB program was applied to model the system for the case of natural aspiration and turbocharging with no increase in fuel *** results were used for both analyses and comparison which showed that the system generates slightly more power with turbocharging at 0%increase in fuel *** natural aspiration achieved values are 2.8232 kJ/mol and 55.26%for output and efficiency respectively,while the turbocharged engine produced optimal values of 2.8833 kJ/mol and 56.51%for output and *** air fuel ratio by mole for the turbocharged engine was 145.18:1,which shows a greater fuel economy of 59%as compared to the 59.5:1 A/F(air/fuel)ratio of the naturally aspirated engine.

Multi-disciplinary Conceptual Design Knowledge of Multi-stage Hybrid Rocket Using Data Mining Technique

This paper deals with the application of data mining techniques to the conceptual design knowledge for a LV （launch vehicle） with a HRE （hybrid rocket engine）. This LV is a concept of the space transportation, which can deliver micro-satellite to the SSO （sun-synchronous orbit）. To design the higher performance LV with HRE, the optimum size of each component, such as an oxidizer tank containing liquid oxidizer, a combustion chamber containing solid fuel, a pressurizing tank and a nozzle, should be acquired. The Kriging based ANOVA （analysis of variance） and SOM （self-organizing map） are employed as data mining techniques for knowledge discovery. In this study, the paraffin （FT-0070） is used as a propellant of HRE. Then, the relationship among LV performances and design variables are investigated through the analysis and the visualization. To calculate the engine performance, the regression rate is computed based on an empirical expression. The design knowledge is extracted for the design knowledge of the multi-stage LV with HRE by analysis using ANOVA and SOM. As a result, the useful design knowledge on the present design problem is obtained to design HRE for space transportation.

In this study, the impact of the engine type, the load, the fuel type and the three-way-catalyst(TWC) on particle emissions was investigated in a gasoline engine test bench in Tsinghua University. A total of 1496 individual particles in the dilute exhaust of two different gasoline engines(one gasoline direct injection(GDI) engine and one port fuel injection(PFI) engine) along with an exhaust three-way-catalyst were analyzed. The measurements were performed using six different designed fuels, Fuels 1-6(F1-6). Morphologies, size distributions and compositions of the particles were investigated by transmission electron microscopy(TEM) coupled with energy-dispersive X-ray(EDX).Among the particles observed, they were mainly categorized into six particle types: soot, organic particles, Fe-rich particles, S-rich particles, Mn-rich particles and fly ash particles. Based on the detailed TEM-EDX analysis, organic particles, soot and s-rich particles, constituted the most dominant species observed in the samples. However, the higher relative number percentages of soot particles and lower organic particles emitted by GDI engine than PFI engine. And smaller particles emitted by PFI engines, particles emitted by PFI engines shew a unimodal distribution. While particles emitted by GDI engine shew a bimodal distribution. What is more, the relative number percentages of soot was enhanced with increasing loads. While the relative number percentages of organic particles decreased with increasing loads. Depending on the fuel used, we found the highest relative number percentages of soot particles emitted by F2 combustion, the lowest soot particles emitted by F5 combustion as compared to other fuels. The higher number percentages of S-rich particles in the samplers when F4 combustion than F3. And Mn-rich particles only was in the sample collected when fuel F3 and F4 combustion.
