Enhanced antiinfection activities, improved hemocompatibility and osteo-compatibility, and reinforced osseointegration are among the most important considerations in designing multifunctional orthopedic ***, anti-infective and osteogenic multifunctional 3 D printed porous Ti6 Al4 V implant with excellent hemocompatibility was successfully designed and fabricated. In brief, osteogenic micro-arc oxidation（MAO） coatings with micro/nanoscale porous topography were generated in situ on3 D printed Ti6 Al4 V scaffolds, on which heparin and vancomycin were easily immobilized. The surface microstructure,morphology, and chemical compositions were characterized employing scanning electron microscopy（SEM）, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy（XPS） and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy（FTIR）. High loading capacity and sustained vancomycin release profiles were revealed using high performance liquid chromatography（HPLC）. Favorable antibacterial and antibiofilm performances against pathogenic Staphylococcus aureus（S. aureus） were validated in vitro through microbial viability assays, Live/Dead bacterial staining, and crystal violet staining. Human mesenchymal stem cells（h MSCs） were seeded on the scaffolds and their proliferation and viability were assessed using Cell Counting Kit and Live/Dead cell viability kit. Further, osteoblastic differentiation abilities were evaluated using alkaline phosphatase（ALP） activity as a hall marker. Additionally, the improved hemocompatibility of the heparinized scaffolds was confirmed by activated partial thromboplastin time（APTT）, prothrombin time（PT） and thrombin time（TT）. Overall, our results show that the surface-modified 3 D printed porous Ti6 Al4 V possesses balanced antibacterial and osteogenic functions while exhibiting extra anticlotting effects, boding well for future application in customized functional reconstruction of intricate bone defects.

Background: Spondylodiscitis and spinal epidural abscesses are rare pathologic entities, but increasing in incidence. Group G beta hemolytic Streptococcus has been recently described associated with human infections. They often present clinically in a non-specific fashion, a fact which can lead to diagnostic delay, with serious consequences for the patient. Case Report: An 80-year-old man was admitted to the hospital with complaints of fever for three days, dysuria, hematuria, and back pain. Both septic embolizations and spondylodiscitis due to Group G beta hemolytic Streptococcus were detected. The patient was successfully treated with intravenous penicillin G for eight weeks, followed by oral amoxicillin for five months. Discussion: In all patients with spondylodiscitis, infective endocarditis should be considered, particularly in patients with heart valve disease history, since spondylodiscitis may be the presenting sign of an infective endocarditis. A high level of suspicion is therefore necessary in order correctly diagnose such entities as quickly as possible. The present case illustrates the pathogenic potential of group G streptococci in spondylodiscitis and native valve endocarditis.

Spatial distributions of animals can affect interactions with their natural enemies,such as parasites,and thus have important implications for host-parasite *** spatial variation in infection risk has been explored in many systems at the landscape scale,less attention has been paid to spatial structure at smaller ***,we explore a hypothesized relationship between a common spatial variable,vertical position,and risk of parasite infection in a model aquatic system,larval frogs(Rana)and trematode(Digenea)*** position is relevant to this system given evidence that the densities of snail first intermediate hosts,tadpole second intermediate hosts,and trematode infective stages can vary with *** test the effects of depth on infection risk of larval frogs by trematodes,we performed two enclosure experiments,one in the laboratory and one in the field,in which larval frogs in cages just below the water surface or near the bottom of the water column were exposed to *** with near-surface cages,mean infection load(number of cysts)in tadpoles in near-bottom cages was 83%higher after 48-h exposures in the laboratory and 730%higher after 10-day exposures in the *** findings thus indicate that infection risk depends on depth,which may have adaptive significance,as tadpoles have previously been shown to change vertical position in response to parasite *** results motivate future work examining vertical variation in infection risk and may have broader implications for host-parasite dynamics and evolution of host and parasite behavior.

BACKGROUND Hypoganglionosis is a rare condition that most often presents with abnormal gastrointestinal transit and usually arises in early childhood or adolescence. Two types have been described(Type I and Type II). The adult-onset form(acquired hypoganglionosis) is extremely uncommon and is thought to arise due to cellular remodelling as a result of chronic inflammation. It differs from Hirschprung's disease in that there is a reduction in ganglion cells in the colonic neural plexuses as opposed to being completely *** SUMMARY A 31 year-old male presented to hospital with recurrent abdominal pain and vomiting over thirteen months. Abdominal computed tomography scans demonstrated thickening and stranding affecting the transverse, descending and sigmoid colon. Endoscopic appearances were non-specific but confirmed a mixed picture of mucosal inflammation and necrosis in various stages of *** investigations were performed to elucidate an underlying aetiology but neither an infective nor ischaemic cause could be proven. Biopsy features were not typical of inflammatory bowel disease. Due to persistence of his symptoms and failure of medical management, a segmental colectomy was performed. Histological examination of the specimen revealed an unexpected finding of segmental hypoganglionosis. Complete surgical excision of the diseased segment of colon was curative and since his operation the patient has had no recurrence of symptoms requiring *** Our case serves to raise awareness of acquired hypoganglionosis as a rare condition that can result from chronic colitis.

BACKGROUND Posaconazole is a widely used azole antifungal agent, and posaconazole-associated severe hyperbilirubinemia is usually rare in clinical practice. We herein report a 58-year-old male with acute myeloid leukemia, who developed fungal infection following *** SUMMARY After administration of posaconazole oral suspension, the patient developed severe hyperbilirubinemia and jaundice(Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events, CTCAE-Grade 3) with a serum total bilirubin(T-BIL) peak level of 170 μmol/L, alkaline phosphatase level of 739 U/L, alanine aminotransferase level of 99 U/L, and gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase level of 638 U/L. After posaconazole withdrawal and symptomatic treatment with liver-protective agents, the level of T-BIL and other laboratory data decreased gradually, and related symptoms disappeared. After medication analysis and literature review, we consider that the patient had a cholestatic type of posaconazoleinduced liver injury, which was related to intracellular mitochondrial DNA damage. The case demonstrates that when patients with hematological malignancy develop severe infection following chemotherapy, combination of anti-infective drugs may contribute to ahigher risk of severe drug-induced liver injury. CONCLUSION This is the first thoroughly documented case report of posaconazole-associated severe hyperbilirubinemia. Therefore, in order to avoid severe adverse events, liver and renal function should be monitored closely before and during the administration of posaconazole.

In this paper, a new susceptible-infected-susceptible （SIS） model on complex networks with imperfect vaccination is proposed. Two types of epidemic spreading patterns （the recovered individuals have or have not immunity） on scale-free networks are discussed. Both theoretical and numerical analyses are presented. The epidemic thresholds related to the vaccination rate, the vaccination-invalid rate and the vaccination success rate on scale-free networks are demonstrated, showing different results from the reported observations. This reveals that whether or not the epidemic can spread over a network under vaccination control is determined not only by the network structure but also by the medicine＇s effective duration. Moreover, for a given infective rate, the proportion of individuals to vaccinate can be calculated theoretically for the case that the recovered nodes have immunity. Finally, simulated results are presented to show how to control the disease prevalence.

Methanolic extract from Lespedeza bicolor： potential candidates for natural antioxidant and anticancer agent

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the anticancer, antioxidant and antimicrobial activities along with total phenolic and flavonoids contents extracted from Lespedeza bicolor indigenous to Khyber Pukhtoonkhwa ***: Anticancer activity against human lung carcinoma(LU-1) and human prostate carcinoma(Ln Cap), antimicrobial against Aspergillus fumigates, Aspergillus niger, Fusarium solani, Mucor sp Klebsiella pneumonia and Enterococcus and antioxidant activity on 1,1-Diphenyl-2-picryl-hydrazy(DPPH) and Hydrogen peroxide radicals scavenging activity were assessed in methanol extract o Lespedeza ***: Lespedeza bicolor aerial parts and root extract showed IC_(50)value of 12.5 and 50 μg/m L against LU-1 whereas, ≤ 12.5 and 12 μg/m L were calculated against Ln Cap cell line. Minimum inhibition concentration(MIC) value of 20-35 μg/m L has been observed against Aspergillus fumigates, Aspergillus niger, Fusarium solani and Mucor sp in comparision with 1-2.5 μg/m L of Terbinafine used as a standard fungicide. MIC value of 20 and 35 μg/m L of Lespedeza bicolor aerial parts and root extract against bacterial pathogen Klebsiella pneumonia and 20-50 μg/m L against Enterococcus has been measured. DPPH radical scavenging activity of Lespedeza bicolor with IC_(50)values of ≤ 50 μg/m L and ≤ 200 μg/m L was observed whereas, hydrogen peroxide scavenging activity with IC_(50)values of ≤25 μg/m L for aerial parts and ≤ 50 μg/m L for the root extract of Lespedeza bicolor has been ***: These data suggested that the methanolic extract of Lespedeza bicolor could be potential candidates for natural antioxidants and anticancer.

Real epidemic spreading networks are often composed of several kinds of complex networks interconnected with each other, such as Lyme disease, and the interrelated networks may have different topologies and epidemic dynamics. Moreover, most human infectious diseases are derived from animals, and zoonotic infections always spread on directed interconnected networks. So, in this article, we consider the epidemic dynamics of zoonotic infections on a unidirectional circular-coupled network. Here, we construct two unidirectional three-layer circular interactive networks, one model has direct contact between interactive networks, the other model describes diseases transmitted through vectors between interactive networks, which are established by introducing the heterogeneous mean-field approach method. Then we obtain the basic reproduction numbers and stability of equilibria of the two models. Through mathematical analysis and numerical simulations, it is found that basic reproduction numbers of the models depend on the infection rates, infection periods, average degrees, and degree ratios. Numerical simulations illustrate and expand these theoretical results very well.
