Barhi is a high-quality date cultivar,typically harvested and consumed fresh at the Khalal maturity stage when the fruits are crispy and sweet with bright yellow *** shelf-life of the Khalal stage(2-3 weeks)is very short for effective *** study aimed at investigating the role of calcium chloride(CaCl2)and salicylic acid(SA)as pre-storage treatments in preserving the color and texture of the fruit during both cold and controlled atmosphere(CA)storage ***-harvested Barhi fruits at the Khalal stage were treated with CaCl2(2%)or SA(2.0 mM),and then stored in cold and CA *** weight loss and decay percentages in the treated samples decreased,whereas the total soluble solids of the treated samples increased compared with those of the untreated *** best treatment in limiting changes in the color and texture of the fruits was CaCl2 treatment during CA storage.

Melatonin(MT)is a low molecular weight compound with a wide variety of biological functions in *** is known to delay senescence in various fruits and *** study demonstrates that MT(100μmol/L)delayed the senescence of pak choi stored at 20°C.A total of 1121 differentially expressed genes(DEGs)were identified in an MT-treated group in comparison to untreated pak *** of DEGs revealed that MT-induced delay in senescence involved reduction in the expression of chlorophyll metabolism genes and regulation of the expression of hormone-related genes and leaf senescence-related transcription *** decreased the activity of chlorophyll metabolism-related enzymes Mg-dechelatase,pheophytinase,and pheide a oxygenase,decreased the concentrations of abscisic acid and jasmonic acid,and increased auxin *** delayed the impact of senescence-related transcription factors BcNAC41 and BcNAC87 on tobacco leaf *** study provides an insight into the molecular mechanisms of MT-induced delay of postharvest senescence in pak choi and confirms its potential as a preservation technique.

Rice dry-direct-seeding technology is a time-saving,cost-saving and efficient rice cultivation technique that increases the efficiency of *** order to implement the specialization,light simplicity and scale of rice production,improve the level of mechanization of the whole rice production process,and solve the problems of uneven seed furrows,uneven number of seeds sown,shallow mulching and uncompact repression that occur during the promotion and application of dry-direct-seeding for rice in the cold region of northeast *** this paper,a planting unit for rice dry-direct-seeding planter is *** working principles and structural parameters of the furrow opening components,the seeding apparatus and the soil covering-pressing device are *** mechanical model of the key components of the seeding unit was established,and the forward speed,roller diameter and compacting strength were selected as the test factors.A three-factor,five-level quadratic rotation orthogonal combination test was conducted with the seed breakage rate,seeding depth qualification rate,seeding uniformity coefficient of variation and hole grain count qualification rate as the evaluation *** performance test and test results show that:at a forward speed of 4 km/h,a roller diameter of 427 mm and a compacting strength of 48.45 kPa,the seed breakage rate was 1.31%,the sowing depth qualification rate was 9.95%,the coefficient of variation of sowing uniformity was 3.75%and the number of holes was 86.75%.This accords with the agronomic requirements of dry-directseeding for rice and implements a combination of superior agronomy and modern farm machinery.

Essential oils from Elaeoselinum asclepium: Chemical composition, antimicrobial and antioxidant properties

Objective: To evaluate the chemical composition of the essential oil isolated from Elaeoselinum asclepium(L.) Bertol.(E. asclepium), and test the efficiency of the essential oil as an antimicrobial and antioxidant ***: Essential oil was obtained from the aerial parts of E. asclepium by hydro distillation and analyzed by gas chromatography and gas chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry. We study for the first time the chemical composition of the essential oil of E. asclepium, followed by the in vitro antimicrobial activities, which were evaluated by agar diffusion method against six Gram-positive bacteria, five Gram-negative bacteria, and two fungi. In addition, The antioxidant activities were also investigated using assays of 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl radical scavenging activity and ferricreducing ***: The analyzed essential oil of the aerial parts of E. asclepium was rich in apinene(43.9%), other compounds detected in appreciable amounts were sabinene(27.9%) and b-pinene(16.0%). The essential oil yields 1.2%, the IC50 values of essential oil in 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl assay in the reducing power assay were 48.26 mg/m L and at 1 mg/m L, respectively. The absorbance value of essential oil at 700 nm was0.956. The antimicrobial effect was higher on Candida albicans ATCC 1024 strain with the inhibition zone 14.5 mm than bacteria and ***: The essential oil of E. asclepium has antimicrobial and antioxidant activities. These species may be used as an important source of natural antimicrobial and antioxidant agents.

Enhanced removal of nitrate and phosphate from wastewater by Chlorella vulgaris: Multi-objective optimization and CFD simulation

To enhance the efficiency of wastewater biotreatment with microalgae, the effects of physical parameters need to be investigated and optimized. In this regard, the individual and interactive effects of temperature, p H and aeration rate on the performance of biological removal of nitrate and phosphate by Chlorella vulgaris were studied by response surface methodology(RSM). Furthermore, a multi-objective optimization technique was applied to the response equations to simultaneously find optimal combinations of input parameters capable of removing the highest possible amount of nitrate and phosphate. The optimal calculated values were temperature of 26.3 °C, pH of 8 and aeration rate of 4.7 L·min^(-1). Interestingly, under the optimum condition, approximately 85% of total nitrate and 77% of whole phosphate were removed after 48 h and 24 h, respectively, which were in excellent agreement with the predicted values. Finally, the effect of baffle on mixing performance and, as a result, on bioremoval efficiency was investigated in Stirred Tank Photobioreactor(STP) by means of Computational Fluid Dynamics(CFD). Flow behavior indicated substantial enhancement in mixing performance when the baffle was inserted into the tank. Obtained simulation results were validated experimentally. Under the optimum condition, due to proper mixing in baffled STP, nitrate and phosphate removal increased up to 93% and 86%,respectively, compared to unbaffled one.

This review focuses on the diversity of immunoglobulin （Ig） genes and Ig isotypes that are expressed in domestic animals. Four livestock species--cattle, sheep, pigs, and horses--express a full range of Ig heavy chains （IgHs）, including t J, 6, y, c, and a. Two poultry species （chickens and ducks） express three IgH isotypes, la, u, and a, but not （5. The K and X light chains are both utilized in the four livestock species, but only the X chain is expressed in poultry. V（D）J recombination, somatic hypermutation （SHM）, and gene conversion （GC） are three distinct mechanisms by which immunoglobulin variable region diversity is generated. Different domestic animals may use distinct means to diversifyrearrancled variable reqions of la aenes.

Background: Galliformes are widely distributed throughout the world and economically important to humans as domesticated animals or gamebirds. They are at a unique position for advancing knowledge and techniques of wildlife conservation as the barometer of the status of applied ecology. Populations of many galliform species have declined mainly due to habitat loss and over-hunting. An assessment of knowledge of Galliformes could help to provide guidelines for future research and conservation ***: Using the Web of Science search engine, we conducted a literature review of galliform-related articles published from 1990 to 2016. We used the "research area" option to filter articles focused on the zoology, environmental sciences ecology, biodiversity conservation, forestry, behavioral sciences, reproductive biology, biochemistry and molecular biology, cell biology, genetics and heredity, evolutionary biology, physiology and developmental biology. We then checked duplication based on the title, abstract and full text. In addition, we examined the reference lists of selected studies to include the publications that were missed by above ***: We retained 1874 articles related to the Galliformes from the initial 243,128 publications that were found. About 91.4% focused on one or two species, and 85.0% were conducted within a short duration, typically 1–2 years. The majority of the articles concentrated on macroscopic ecology(55.5%), mainly focusing on habitat selection or habitat use. With recent advances of molecular biology, the studies of taxonomy and phylogenetics rose quickly in last two decades. The study of physiology and biochemistry was no longer limited to simple description but expanded to the mechanisms of phenotype and micro-evolutionary potential. Microalgae,a sustainable source of multi beneficial components has been discovered and could be utilised in pharmaceutical,bioenergy and food *** study aims to investigate the sugaring-out effect on the recovery of protein from wet green microalga,Chlorella sorokiniana CY1 which was assisted with sonication.A comparison of monosaccharides and disaccharides as one of the phaseforming constituents shows that the monosaccharides,glucose was the most suitable sugar in forming the phases with acetonitrile to enhance the production of protein(52% of protein).The protein productivity of microalgae was found to be significantly influenced by the volume ratio of both phases,as the yield of protein increased to 77%.The interval time between the sonication as well as the sonication modes were influencing the protein productivity as *** optimum protein productivity was obtained with 10s of resting time in between *** mode of sonication was suitable to break down the cell wall of microalgae compared to continuous mode as a lower protein yield was obtained with the application of continuous *** optimum condition for protein extraction were found as followed:200g/L glucose as bottom phase with volume ratio of 1:1.25,10s of resting time for ultrasonication,5s of ultrasonication in pulse mode and 0.25g of biomass *** high yield of protein about 81% could be obtained from microalgae which demonstrates the potential of this source and expected to play an important role in the future.

A landslide susceptibility mapping study was performed using dynamic hillslope hydrology. The modified infinite slope stability model that directly includes vadose zone soil moisture(SM) was applied at Cleveland Corral, California, US and Krishnabhir, Dhading, Nepal. The variable infiltration capacity(VIC-3L) model simulated vadose zone soil moisture and the wetness index hydrologic model simulated groundwater(GW). The GW model predictions had a 75% NASH-Sutcliffe efficiency when compared to California's in-situ GW measurements. The model performed best during the wet season. Using predicted GW and VIC-3L vadose zone SM, the developed landslide susceptibility maps showed very good agreement with mapped landslides at each study region. Previous quasi-dynamic model predictions of Nepal's hazardous areas during extreme rainfall events were enhanced to improve the spatial characterization and provide the timing of hazardous conditions.

Application of a novel backwashing process in upflow biological aerated filter

To improve the efficiency of backwashing in upflow biological aerated filter （BAF）, a novel backwashing process named air-water siphon backwashing （AWSB） was proposed and applied on laboratory scale. The effects of backwashing on turbidity and suspended solid （SS） in backwashing efluent using this new backwashing process were compared with those of traditional backwashing process, namely air-water backwashing （AWB）. In AWB, the turbidity of backwashing efluent maintained 100 NUT when consumed 60 min and 10.5 L water. However, in AWSB, it declined to 44 NUT, consumed 40 min, and 7 L water. The COD removal of BAF after backwashing was also analyzed. The average removal rate of COD in the reactor backwashed by AWB and AWSB was 89.34% and 90.91%, respectively. Compared with AWB, the backwashing interval had been prolonged 35%. The volume of backwashing water in that AWSB was only 66.7% of that in AWB. The results demonstrated that AWSB required less water and took shorter backwashing timerelative to AWB to achieve the same turbidity of backwashing efluent, and AWSB was more effective in removing fouling than that of AWB. More significant advantage of AWSB was that the backwashing interval was effectively prolonged
