The stay coefficient: a novel quantification of the relationship between stay time and travel time for urban shopping behavior analysis

Shoppers typically want to spend an amount of time at a destination that is proportional to the travel time required to arrive there;thus,the travel time can be considered the cost of their *** is likely to be the case across regions with different urban structures and *** purpose of this study was therefore to analyze the shopping behaviors contained in travel survey data from three metropolitan areas in Japan to identify common patterns and indicators based on travel time and stay time,thereby obtaining an understanding to inform future trade area *** the travel time and stay time associated with shopping behavior were found to be log-normally distributed regardless of metropolitan area,and four shopping behavior patterns common among the metropolitan areas were ***“stay coeffi-cient”was then defined to express the elasticity of stay time according to travel time,and its values were similar according to shopping behavior pattern regardless of metropolitan *** stay coefficient proposed in this study can therefore be applied to identify shopping behavior patterns in any urban area based on the relationship between travel time and stay time,realizing a novel approach to the analysis of and marketing for trade areas when planning the construction or renovation of commercial *** approach can help inform the decisions of urban policy makers,marketing advisors,and commercial facility operators,and should be of interest to researchers and practitioners working with geospatial,shopping,and other human behavioral characteristics.

Analysis of shopping behavior characteristics in the Keihanshin metropolitan area in Japan based on a person trip survey

This study analyzed weekday shopping behavior from a home base to a destination using data from the 4th Keihanshin metropolitan area person trip *** first analyzed the relationships between occupation and transportation means,transportation means and travel time,and transportation means and duration of time at the *** of a chi-square test,residual analysis,and correspondence analysis confirmed that employed persons tend to travel by cars while unemployed persons tend to travel by bus or *** relationship between travel time and duration of time at the destination was also revealed according to transportation *** of a cluster analysis then classified shopping behaviors to expose four ***,multiple regression analyzed the degree to which certain variables were related to duration of time at the *** confirmed a strong relationship between duration of time at the destination and travel *** degree of this factor’s influence on other variables was also *** value of these findings is that the relationship between travel time by means of transportation and the duration of time at the destination was clarified using statistical *** then found a highly accurate equation that estimates the duration of time at a destination from the travel *** the duration of time at a destination can be estimated,it may be possible to more accurately develop the structure of rest facilities,the number of parking lots,the degree of congestion,and so on,which can be associated with the customer’s usage behavior in a shopping *** research in this paper contributes to the field of urban analysis and marketing by presenting a new effective method for person trip survey and analysis.

Prediction of Vibration Characteristics in Beam Structure Using Sub-Scale Modeling with Experimental Validation

Geometric or sub-scale modeling techniques are used for the evaluation of large and complex dynamic structures to ensure accurate reproduction of load path and thus leading to true dynamic characteristics of such structures. The sub-scale modeling technique is very effective in the prediction of vibration characteristics of original large structure when the experimental testing is not feasible due to the absence of a large testing facility. Previous researches were more focused on free and harmonic vibration case with little or no consideration for readily encountered random vibration. A sub-scale modeling technique is proposed for estimating the vibration characteristics of any large scale structure such as Launch vehicles, Mega structures, etc., under various vibration load cases by utilizing precise scaled-down model of that dynamic structure. In order to establish an analytical correlation between the original structure and its scaled models, different scale models of isotropic cantilever beam are selected and analyzed under various vibration conditions（ i.e. free, harmonic and random） using finite element package ANSYS. The developed correlations are also validated through experimental testing The prediction made from the vibratory response of the scaled-down beam through the established sets of correlation are found similar to the response measured from the testing of original beam structure. The established correlations are equally applicable in the prediction of dynamic characteristics of any complex structure through its scaled-down models. This paper presents modified sub-scale modeling technique that enables accurate prediction of vibration characteristics of large and complex structure under not only sinusoidal but also for random vibrations.

PATIENT EXPERIENCE WITH HOSPITAL CARE-COMPARISON OF A SAMPLE OF GREEN HOS PITALS AND NON-GREEN HOSPITALS

Although the sustainability movement in the healthcare sector was initiated in response to ecological concerns,green hospitals are expected to outperform traditional hospitals on a variety of *** impacts of environmental quality on patients and caregivers are demonstrated in numerous ***,there is still a lack of evidence on the benefits of green hospitals with respect to different dimensions of patients’*** this study,data from the public Hospital Consumer Assessment of Health Plans Survey is used to compare the performance of green hospitals with the average performance of traditional *** study included 19 green hospitals and found that patients hospitalized in green facilities reported overall higher ratings than those in traditional hospitals when compared to the average performance of traditional hospitals of similar sizes and ***,patients in green hospitals were more likely to recommend the hospital to their friends and ***,relationships between specific green building features and patient experiences were not identified in this study.

Concerns regarding the environmental impacts of hospitals have made the healthcare sector one of the most prominent settings for the green building *** these environmental concerns,the number of studies that document the benefits of sustainable healthcare facilities is *** this study,the authors used the Medicare and Medicaid cost report data to compare the financial performance of 14 Leadership in Energy and environmental design(LEED)certified hospitals against the average performance of non-green *** line with studies conducted in other settings,the authors found that there are low and high performers among green *** this study,green hospitals had higher facility operating expenses than an average non-green hospital and spent more on plant *** green hospitals included in this study generated more revenue,the incomes were not high enough to validate the high operating expenses.

Comparison of Color and Grayscale Simulated TV-Graphics in Rendezvous and Docking

Subjective evaluation is one of the most important methods of assessing the fidelity of a virtual dynamic scene,whose results could be seen as a reference to improve a rendering *** the present study,we apply a rendering method to the color rendezvous and docking(RVD) scene,where one shadow algorithm and three tone mapping operator algorithms are used to process the scene based on the distance between two *** grayscale RVD scene is transformed from the color RVD scene,and each RVD scene is desired to make comparisons with the real RVD-video recorded in SZ-10 *** addition,we perform an evaluation on 36 subjects to compare the *** results show that shadow effects have important roles in RVD virtual scenes,where they enhance the sense of realism and ***,high brightness,contrast and luminance are highly correlated with the overall preference,and the grayscale scene receives better evaluations than the color *** analysis of these conclusions is vital for improving the algorithms used to render color virtual space scenes when virtual scenes for astronaut training in Chinese space station mission are prepared.

A PRODUCTION OPTIMIZATION MODEL OF SUPPLY-DRIVEN CHAIN WITH QUALITY UNCERTAINTY

Supply-driven chain＇s production is different from traditional demand-driven production because its supplies must guide the full production flow toward the markets and respond actively to customer demand. According to the control tlaeory, a novel multi-variable operation model of supply-driven chain is discussed here, integrating suppliers, manufacturers, distributors and market demands. Especially the coordination problem between suppliers and manufacturers is discussed where suppliers play more important role than manufacturers. Because defect is common in real production system, the production operation of supply-driven chain with imperfect quality is described on the basis of fuzzy set to model the ambiguity of quality and to provide appropriate supply coordination mechanism. In a designed numerical example, it is apparent that both response and robustness performances of supply-driven production system on demand with imperfect quality are improved by a fuzzy proportional-integral- differential regulator. The proposed model may apply to similar productions with imoerfect quality.

Probability mass first flush evaluation for combined sewer discharges

The Korea government has put in a lot of effort to construct sanitation facilities for controlling non-point source pollution. The first flush phenomenon is a prime example of such pollution. However, to date, several serious problems have arisen in the operation and treatment effectiveness of these facilities due to unsuitable design flow volumes and pollution loads. It is difficult to assess the optimal flow volume and pollution mass when considering both monetary and temporal limitations. The objective of this article was to characterize the discharge of storm runoff pollution from urban catchments in Korea and to estimate the probability of mass first flush （MFFn） using the storm water management model and probability density functions. As a result of the review of gauged storms for the representative using probability density function with rainfall volumes during the last two years, all the gauged storms were found to be valid representative precipitation. Both the observed MFFn and probability MFFn in BE-1 denoted similarly large magnitudes of first flush with roughly 40% of the total pollution mass contained in the first 20% of the runoff. In the case of BE-2, however, there were significant difference between the observed MFFn and probability MFFn.

Real-time measurements of PM_(2.5),PM_(10-2.5),and BC in an urban street canyon

A continuous dichotomous beta gauge monitor was used to characterize the hourly content of PM2.5, PM10-2.5, and Black Carbon （BC） over a 12-month period in an urban street canyon of Hong Kong. Hourly vehicle counts for nine vehicle classes and meteorological data were also recorded. The average weekly cycles of PM2.5, PM10-2.5, and BC suggested that all species are related to traffic, with high concentrations on workdays and low concentrations over the weekends. PM2.s exhibited two comparable concentrations at 10：00-11：00 （63.4 μg/m3） and 17：00-18：00 （65.0 p.g/m3 ） local time （LT） during workdays, correspond- ing to the hours when the numbers of diesel-fueled and gasoline-fueled vehicles were at their maximum levels： 3179 and 2907 h-1, respectively. BC is emitted mainly by diesel-fueled vehicles and this showed the highest concentration （31.2μg/m3） during the midday period （10：00-11：00 LT） on workdays. A poor correlation was found between PM2.s concentration and wind speed （R= 0.51, P-value 〉 0.001 ）. In contrast, the concentration of PM10-2.s was found to depend upon wind speed and it increased with obvious statistical significance as wind speed increased （R = 0,98, P-value 〈 0.0001 ）.
