BACKGROUND The association of different body components,including lean mass and body fat,with the risk of death in acute coronary syndrome(ACS)patients are *** We enrolled adults diagnosed with ACS at our center between January 2011 and December 2012 and obtained fol-low-up outcomes via telephone *** used restricted cubic splines(RCS)with the Cox proportional hazards model to analyze the associations between body mass index(BMI),predicted lean mass index(LMI),predicted body fat percentage(BF),and the value of LMI/BF with 10-year *** also examined the secondary outcome of death during *** During the maximum 10-year follow-up of 1398 patients,331 deaths(23.6%)occurred,and a U-shaped relationship was found between BMI and death risk(P_(nonlinearity)=0.03).After adjusting for age and history of diabetes,the overweight group(24≤BMI<28 kg/m^(2))had the lowest mortality(HR=0.53,95%CI:0.29-0.99).Predicted LMI and LMI/BF had an inverse linear relationship with a 10-year death risk(P_(nonlinearity)=0.24 and P_(nonlinearity)=0.38,respectively),while an increase in BF was associ-ated with increased mortality(P_(nonlinearity)=0.64).During hospitalization,31 deaths(2.2%)were recorded,and the associations of the indicators with in-hospital mortality were consistent with the long-term outcome *** Our study provides new insight into the“obesity paradox”in ACS patients,highlighting the importance of considering body composition *** LMI and BF may serve as useful tools for assessing nutritional status and predicting the prognosis of ACS,based on their linear associations with all-cause mortality.

Dear Editor,The Cretaceous-Paleogene(K-Pg)mass extinction precipitated one of the most profound restructurings of biodiversity in recent geological *** the extinction of many iconic groups,particularly the non-avian dinosaurs,there is emerging evidence that previously overlooked taxa experienced stark morphological and evolutionary *** this study,we report both adult and larva of beetles of the genus Loricera preserved in mid-Cretaceous Kachin amber(Figure 1),which display striking similarity to extant congeners,indicating a stasis of their specialized feeding behavior persisting at least 100 million years.

The Chinese construction of the science of philosophy takes as its basic form the narrative of the history of *** introduction into Chinese philosophy of the normative character of philosophy and its problem framework via the narrative of the history of philosophy has to some extent enabled the practice of philosophy to remain separate from the norms and methods of traditional Chinese *** norms and problem frameworks from the West have changed the happenings of the historical world towards the eternal Dao of the classical world into intellectual texts,and have transformed the situationbased expressive strategy that develops the principles of things in the world of concrete experience into concepts and *** a consequence of these two positions,the ground of Chinese philosophy,based as it is on the history of philosophy,may not only be separated from the everlasting world of experience of the classics,but may also be divorced from the present experience of the modernization *** we start from an analysis of the historicity of the Chinese intellectual tradition and its classical character,Chinese philosophy has obtained the possibility of returning to experience by means of parsing jishi yanli,a way of thinking that uses the investigation of things to fathom *** pathway of integrating philosophical thinking and experience will enhance and stimulate the contemporary value of the *** importantly,regarding the unique methods and strategies of expression in traditional Chinese thought as a general philosophical approach can facilitate the promotion of the construction of a world philosophy oriented toward currentexperience.

In the new context of the rise of United States as a world power, Woodrow Wilson seized the exceptional opportunity offered by American involvement in the First World War and wartime mobilization to reinterpret America＇s traditions and characteristics, contrasting the US with Germany, the ＂other.＂ He successfully transformed America＇s self-image and international role from the ＂model republic＂ and ＂example of freedom＂ of the nineteenth century to ＂champion of liberty＂ and ＂world leader.＂ Wilson＇s reshaping of the national identity not only facilitated wartime mobilization but also resolved America＇s identity crisis and its confusion about the role it was to play after it came on the world stage. In so doing, he identified the long-term direction of national policy for an America that had risen to be a world power. His creative interpretation of America＇s ideals, role and destiny guided his countrymen in their understanding of the meaning of their country＇s existence and its relations with the world and became the most influential foreign policy discourse of twentieth century America. This had a far-reaching influence on American foreign policy.

Water is the source of all life, and is closely related to human civilization. It had a special significance in China, so the ancient Chinese created the dragon god as a symbol of China, the Chinese and Chinese civilization. It can be said that the unique hydrological conditions on the territory of China created three great historical miracles： China, the Chinese people, and Chinese civilization. The Chinese have dedicated more effort than people in any other countries to water control and water use in order to make effective use of water resources and prevent flooding. It is their unparalleled achievements that have laid the foundation for these three miracles. Today, the Chinese people are facing unprecedented challenges in water control and water use. Exploring the historical Chinese relationship with water offers a good opportunity to understand the important role that water plays in long-term social development.

The concept of tianxia （all under heaven） had both a broad and a narrow meaning in traditional China, corresponding respectively to ＂the world＂ and ＂China.＂ It was generally believed that China＇s recent history saw a process in which tianxia contracted into a ＂state.＂ However, if we put the emphasis on what the Chinese literati had in mind, the process was more of a transformation from tianxia to ＂the world.＂ Kang Youwei creatively transformed Gongyang＇s idea of the ＂Three Worlds＂ from a diachronic to a synchronic concept, facilitating a smooth transformation from tianxia to ＂the world.＂ However, China was excluded fi-om the Western-dominated ＂world＂ system. The Chinese literati＇s yearning to become a part of＂the world,＂ and their endeavor to earn China a better position in the world, involved a hesitant process of exploration.

BACKGROUND Colorectal cancer is a common malignant tumor in China,and its incidence in the elderly is increasing *** bowel disease is a group of chronic non-specific intestinal inflammatory diseases,including ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s *** included the clinicopathological and follow-up data of patients with colorectal cancer who underwent laparoscopic colectomy or open colectomy at our Gastrointestinal department between January 2019 and December *** indicators,oncological indicators,and survival rates were compared between the *** results of 104 patients who met the above criteria were extracted from the database(laparoscopic colectomy group=63,open colectomy group=41),and there were no statistically significant differences in the baseline data or follow-up time between the two *** Intraoperative blood loss,time to first ambulation,and time to first fluid intake were significantly lower in the laparoscopic colectomy group than in the open colectomy *** differences in overall mortality,tumor-related mortality,and recurrence rates between the two groups were not statistically significant,and survival analysis showed that the differences in the cumulative overall survival,tumor-related survival,and cumulative recurrence-free rates between the two groups were not statistically *** In elderly patients with colorectal cancer,laparoscopic colectomy has better short-term outcomes than open colectomy,and laparoscopic colectomy has superior long-term survival outcomes compared with open colectomy.

BACKGROUND Rectal prolapse arises from benign *** symptoms of internal intussusception mirror those of rectal prolapse,a misdiagnosis is possible,especially under limited clinical *** is crucial to recognize and differentiate rectal prolapse from internal intussusception because the two diagnoses have different ***,we describe a case of adult sigmoid intussusception presenting as rectal *** SUMMARY A 64-year-old woman with no known medical history visited a gastrointestinal outpatient department due to hard bloody stool defecation for 1 wk followed by constipation for 3 *** revealed a huge polypoid ulcerated tumor at the sigmoid colon with lumen *** patient was admitted due to postprocedural dull abdominal *** to failed colonoscopy reduction and stent insertion,the patient underwent sigmoid colon resection with primary end-to-end anastomosis,with the transverse colostomy pathological report showing adenocarcinoma,*** recovered well from the operation and was discharged with regular outpatient clinic *** Presentation and manifestation of sigmoid intussusception may resemble that of rectal prolapse,necessitating careful observation due to distinct prognostic implications.

BACKGROUND Several studies have explored the long-term prognosis of patients with asymp-tomatic gallbladder *** reports were primarily conducted in facilities equipped with beds for addressing symptomatic *** To report the long-term prognosis of patients with asymptomatic gallbladder stones in clinics without bed *** We investigated the prognoses of 237 patients diagnosed with asymptomatic gallbladder stones in clinics without beds between March 2010 and October *** symptoms developed,patients were transferred to hospitals where appropriate treatment was *** investigated the asymptomatic and survival periods during the *** Among the 237 patients,214(90.3%)remained asymptomatic,with a mean asymptomatic period of 3898.9279±46.871 d(50-4111 d,10.7 years on average).Biliary complications developed in 23 patients(9.7%),with a mean survival period of 4010.0285±31.2788 d(53-4112 d,10.9 years on average).No patient died of biliary *** The long-term prognosis of asymptomatic gallbladder stones in clinics without beds was *** the condition became symptomatic,the patients were transferred to hospitals with beds that could address it;thus,no deaths related to biliary complications were *** finding suggests that follow-up care in clinics without beds is possible.
