Obstacles for Iranian rural population to participate in health education programmes:a qualitative study

Type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM)is one of the fastest growing public health concerns around the ***-sweetened beverage(SSB)consumption has been proven to be associated with adverse health consequences in the diabetic *** SSB consumption,body weight control,healthy diets,and increased physical activity have been suggested as strategies to improve diabetes prevention and *** literature review provides an overview of:(1)The association between SSB consumption and the risk of T2DM;(2)Types of SSB consumption and T2DM;(3)The effect of obesity and inflammation on the association between SSB consum-ption and risk of T2DM;and(4)SSB consumption in T2DM *** is still work to be done to determine how SSB consumption is related to T2DM,but the current research on identifying the association between SSB consumption and T2DM is promising,with the most promising studies confirming the connection between SSBs,T2DM risk,and diabetes *** studies should explore more effective SSB related diabetes prevention and management interventions.

Induced neural stem cells regulate microglial activation through Akt-mediated upregulation of CXCR4 and Crry in a mouse model of closed head injury

Microglial activation that occurs rapidly after closed head injury may play important and complex roles in neuroinflammation-associated neuronal damage and *** previously reported that induced neural stem cells can modulate the behavior of activated microglia via CXCL12/CXCR4 signaling,influencing their activation such that they can promote neurological ***,the mechanism of CXCR4 upregulation in induced neural stem cells remains *** this study,we found that nuclear factor-κB activation induced by closed head injury mouse serum in microglia promoted CXCL12 and tumor necrosis factor-αexpression but suppressed insulin-like growth factor-1 ***,recombinant complement receptor 2-conjugated Crry(CR2-Crry)reduced the effects of closed head injury mouse serum-induced nuclear factor-κB activation in microglia and the levels of activated microglia,CXCL12,and tumor necrosis factor-α.Additionally,we observed that,in response to stimulation(including stimulation by CXCL12 secreted by activated microglia),CXCR4 and Crry levels can be upregulated in induced neural stem cells via the interplay among CXCL12/CXCR4,Crry,and Akt signaling to modulate microglial *** agreement with these in vitro experimental results,we found that Akt activation enhanced the immunoregulatory effects of induced neural stem cell grafts on microglial activation,leading to the promotion of neurological recovery via insulin-like growth factor-1 secretion and the neuroprotective effects of induced neural stem cell grafts through CXCR4 and Crry upregulation in the injured cortices of closed head injury ***,these beneficial effects of Akt activation in induced neural stem cells were positively correlated with the therapeutic effects of induced neural stem cells on neuronal injury,cerebral edema,and neurological disorders post–closed head *** conclusion,our findings reveal that Akt activation may enhance the immunoregulatory effects of induced neura

Assessment of Effects of Concomitant Exposure to Sound, Heat, and Physical Workload Changes on Physiological Parameters in Five Different Combination Modes, a Controlled Laboratory Study

Exposure to sound,heat,and increased physical workload can change physiological *** study was conducted to evaluate the effect of concomitant exposure to sound,heat,and physical workload changes on physiological parameters in controlled laboratory *** experimental crosssectional study was conducted in 35 male university students with a mean age of 25.75 years and a mean BMI of 22.69 kg/*** and diastolic blood pressure and heart rate were measured after 15 min rest in the laboratory,5 and 10 min after starting the experiment,and then after 20 min in controlled laboratory conditions in five combination *** combination modes were(Sound:65 dB,WBGT:22°C,Speed:1.7,Slope:10%),(Sound:65 dB,WBGT:22°C,Speed:3.4,Slope:14%),(Sound:95 dB,WBGT:22°C,Speed:1.7,Slope:10%),(Sound:65 dB,WBGT:32°C,Speed:1.7,Slope:10%),and(Sound:95 dB,WBGT:32°C,Speed:3.4,Slope:14%).Mixed model analysis and paired t-test were applied for *** results showed that the mean physiological parameters(Systolic and diastolic blood pressure and heart rate)increased when different combination modes worsened(Sound from 65 to 95 dB,WBGT from 22°C to 32°C,speed from 1.7 to 3.4,and slope from 10%to 14%,and when sound:95 dB,WBGT:32°C,Speed:3.4,and Slope:14%).Moreover,the mean changes of systolic and diastolic blood pressure were significant in all conditions when compared with the reference condition(Sound:65 dB,WBGT:22°C,Speed:1.7,and Slope:10%).The mean heart rate changes were also significant except for exposure to the second condition(Sound:65 dB,WBGT:22°C,Speed:3.4,Slope:14%)and the third condition(Sound:95 dB,WBGT:22°C,Speed:1.7,Slope:10%).Exposure to hazardous levels of sound,heat,and workload has adverse effects on physiological *** exposure to all three hazards has a synergistic effect and increases the adverse effect.

Relations of change in fruit and vegetable intake with overall energy reduction and physical activity with weight change:Assessing theory-based psychosocial mediators

Background'.Increased physical activity and fruit and vegetable(FV)intake are typically suggested to counter *** behavior change in those areas has,however,been poor,possibly because of a lack of understanding of the effects of psychosocial *** data from previous research,this study aimed to better define the role of physical activity and FV intake in short;and long-term weight loss via changes in malleable psychosocial mediators and ***:Women who were obese(n=183;age=50.0±7.9 years;body mass index=35.2±3.2 kg/m2,mean±SD)and who previously participated in 3 different community-based behavioral weight-loss treatments were assessed over 2 *** in FV intake,physical activity,sei^regulation of physical activity and eating(aggregated),negative mood,and weight were measured over 6 and 24 ***'.Changes in each variable over both 6 and 24 months were significant(all p values<0.001).The FV intake to the weight-related caloric intake relationship(β=.0.30,p<0.001)was significantly mediated by selfregulation change over 6 *** physical activity to weightchange relationship(β=.0.46,p<0.001)was significantly mediated by both sei±regulation and mood change over 24 *** activity,itself,accounted for only 16%of weight-related caloric expenditure *** in physical activity and FV intake were each independent predictors of weight change over 24 months(overall R2=0.50,p<0.001).Conclusion-.Findings clarified theory-based targets for weight-management treatments and suggested that future weight-loss treatments strongly focus on developing self-regulatory skills to address barriers to behavioral changes.

Efficacy of equine-assisted psychotherapy in veterans with posttraumatic stress disorder

Background: Posttraumatic stress disorder(PTSD) is a common and debilitating disorder among war veterans. Although complementary and alternative therapies are gaining acceptance in the treatment of PTSD, the efficacy of animal-based therapies in this disorder is unknown. The goal of equine-assisted psychotherapy(EAP) is to improve the social, emotional, and/or cognitive functions of individuals with ***: This study aims to explore the effects of EAP on PTSD symptoms. We hypothesized that veterans with PTSD who participate in a standardized EAP program for 1 h per week for 6 weeks would experience decreased PTSD symptoms and would demonstrate increased resilience as compared with individuals who do not receive EAP ***, setting, participants and interventions: We conducted a sequentially assigned, two-arm parallel group trial comparing 6 weeks of EAP with standard, previously established, ongoing PTSD *** was conducted at a community EAP facility in conjunction with an academic University Hospital. Twenty adult veterans with symptomatic PTSD completed the study. Ten adult veterans with previously diagnosed PTSD were assigned to EAP and received directed interaction with trained horses for one hour a week in groups of 3 or 4 individuals, while also continuing their previously established therapies. Disease, Death and <i>Dhandha: Gharwali’s</i>Perspectives on the Impact of AIDS on <i>Devadasi</i>System and the Sex Work in South India

Traditional Devadasi system based sex work (dhandha) is practiced inIndia. The communities that practice this system are affected severely by AIDS epidemic. Through this paper we present the views of gharwalis (brothel madams) regarding the impact of AIDS on the traditional system (Devadasi system) of initiating girls as sex workers (Devadasis) and on the practice of sex work (dhandha) associated with that system. Qualitative in-depth interviews were conducted with twelve gharwalis as a follow-up of a cohort study, which investigated the patterns and determinants of sex worker migration from northern Karnataka to southern Maharashtra, in India. According to gharwalis, the disease (AIDS) consequences;death, fear and stigma affected dhandha operations, changed the attitude of the Devadasi community against the practice of dhandha and the Devadasi system, besides, influenced the community to take actions to stop the practice of dhandha and the Devadasi system. The findings suggest that the interplay between the disease consequences and the community’s response to those consequences contribute to transition dhandha and the Devadasi system. We discuss our findings, describe the transition and the consequent risk enhancing conditions. Finally, highlight the need to address these conditions to reduce Devadasis risk and vulnerability to HIV infection.

The burden of disease on HIV-infected orphaned and non-orphaned children accessing primary health facilities in a rural district with poor resources in South Africa: a cross-sectional survey of primary caregivers of HIV-infected children aged 5–18 years

Adherence to pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatment of frail hypertensive patients

Objective To investigate the relationship between frailty syndrome （FS） and adherence to pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatment for hypertension. Methods The study included 100 patients diagnosed with hypertension and treated with one or more hypotensive drugs. Results Frail patients obtained low scores （4.1 ± 2.0） for adherence to pharmaceutical treatment of hypertension, while non-frail patients obtained moderate scores （6.1 ± 2.1）. Non-frail patients had higher scores in two out of four domains of the health Behavior Inventory （HBI）： positive mental attitudes （3.6 ± 0.4 vs. 3.2 ± 0.5; P = 0.006） and health practices （3.6 ± 0.5 vs. 3.2 ± 0.5; P 〈 0.03）; as well as higher global scores （HBI raw score）： 83.3 ±10.6 vs. 77.3 ± 9.5; P 〈 0.03. Multiple regression analysis showed that frailty syndrome （FS） was a statistically significant independent determinant of worse adherence to pharmacological treatment （β= -0.27; P 〈 0.001） and health behaviors （β = -0.10; P = 0.036）. Education was a statistically significant independent determinant of better adherence to pharmacological treatment （β = 0.82; P = 0.012）, while net income positively affected health behaviors as measured by the HBI （β = 0.39; P = 0.046）. Conclusions FS is a significant independent factor contributing to worse adherence to pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatment of hypertension. Better education significantly improves patients＇ adherence to the prescribed pharmacological treatment, while a good financial standing evidenced by high net income is a determinant of better adherence to health-related behaviors recommended in hypertension treatment.
