Optimal appointment scheduling with no-shows and exponential service time considering overtime work

Appointment systems are used by health clinics to manage access to service *** such systems,a specified number of patients are scheduled in advance,but certain patients may not arrive or‘show up’to their *** existence of no-show behaviour influences both the operational cost of the clinics and the waiting time of the *** this paper,we determine an optimal schedule that takes no-show behaviour into account to determine the time intervals between patients under the framework of the individual-block/variableinterval rule for minimising the overall cost of the patient waiting time,the practitioner idle time and *** the condition that the service time of each patient is exponentially distributed,we compare the results with a schedule designed for the same expected number of patients in the absence of no-shows and analyse the effect on the system performance from the perspectives of day-length,expected workload,no-show probability,ratio of overtime costs and no-golf *** extend our results to an equally-spaced appointment system,which is commonly used in *** results show that not only do no-shows greatly affect the system performance compared with an appointment system with the same expected workload without no-shows,but they also affect the optimal scheduling behaviours in the dome-shaped *** addition,overtime cannot be eliminated completely even if the day length is adequate for all patients because of the stochastic characteristic of service time.

Glaucoma is a progressive eye disease that can lead to blindness if left *** detection is crucial to prevent vision loss,but current manual scanning methods are expensive,time-consuming,and require specialized *** study presents a novel approach to Glaucoma detection using the Enhanced Grey Wolf Optimized Support Vector Machine(EGWO-SVM)*** proposed method involves preprocessing steps such as removing image noise using the adaptive median filter(AMF)and feature extraction using the previously processed speeded-up robust feature(SURF),histogram of oriented gradients(HOG),and Global *** enhanced Grey Wolf Optimization(GWO)technique is then employed with SVM for *** evaluate the proposed method,we used the online retinal images for glaucoma analysis(ORIGA)database,and it achieved high accuracy,sensitivity,and specificity rates of 94%,92%,and 92%,*** results demonstrate that the proposed method outperforms other current algorithms in detecting the presence or absence of *** study provides a novel and effective approach to Glaucoma detection that can potentially improve the detection process and outcomes.

Bermudagrass[Cynodon dactylon ***(L.)Pers.]is a major warm-season turf and forage grass *** yield is an important trait targeted for improvement in bermudagrass breeding programs because of the increased interest in seed-propagated *** the nature of genetic variation for seed yield and its components in bermudagrass would aid the development of seed-propagated *** objective of this study was to estimate the genetic variation and narrow-sense heritability for seed yield and its two major components,inflorescences prolificacy and seed set percentage in ***-five half-sib families and their respective clonal parents were evaluated at two Oklahoma locations,Perkins and Stillwater(Oklahoma,USA),over two ***-sib families were different for seed yield,inflorescences prolificacy and seed set percentage,indicating the expression of additive genes in controlling these ***×location effects were observed for seed set percentage and seed *** three traits showed family×year interaction *** was a significant family×location×year interaction in inflorescences prolificacy and seed set ***-sense heritability estimates for seed yield was 0.18 based on variance component analysis among half-sib families and ranged from 0.26 to 0.68 based on parent-offspring regressions,indicating genetic complexity of seed *** estimates were moderate(0.30−0.55)for inflorescences prolificacy and moderate to relatively high(0.41−0.78)for seed set *** results indicate that sufficient magnitudes of additive genetic variation for seed set percentage and inflorescence prolificacy permit positive response to selection and conventional progeny-based genotypic evaluation is necessary for seed yield ***:Tan C,Wu Y,Taliaferro CM,Bell GE,Martin DL,et *** estimates for seed yield and its components in Cynodon dactylon var.

A 3-year experiment was conducted to evaluate the performance and playability of 24 coarse-textured zoysiagrass(Zoysia ***.)experimental genotypes in comparison to five commercially available cultivars maintained as a low-maintenance turf across multiple climates(Indiana,North Carolina,Georgia,Arizona,and California).Following establishment in 2018,plots were maintained under low-maintenance regimes and evaluated for quality,density,uniformity,color,winterkill damage,drought resistance,and golf ball lie in 2019 and 2020.A turf performance index(TPI)was calculated for each treatment at each site,which represented the number of times the treatment occurred in the top statistical *** unique climate for each site led to differences in TPI *** instance,the arid climates of Arizona and California resulted in distinct differences in performance among treatments compared to the other ***,consistencies in performance across sites were also *** example,the 2018−2019 winter resulted in winterkill differences among entries in both Indiana and North Carolina,which led to some similarities in ***,the southern humid climates of North Carolina and Georgia produced consistencies in overall *** the minimal inputs and the hot-humid or arid climates evaluated in this study,all of the check cultivars were some of the poorest performing treatments,which clearly illustrates there is a need for breeding programs to develop zoysiagrass genotypes for these ***,experimental lines that exhibited excellent persistence under these conditions were identified indicating the genetic potential for wider adaptation to lower input environments exists within the species.

SWAT Model Prediction of Phosphorus Loading in a South Carolina Karst Watershed with a Downstream Embayment

In this study,a recurrent neural network(RNN)is used to model the underlying dynamics of a 2-joint golf swing *** conventional approach using state feedback where position and velocity are regarded as independent variables for feedback leads to a loss of physical association between the two variables and hence violates the governing equations of motions. To tackle this problem,a modified RNN structure which preserves the relationship between position and velocity is *** the modified structure,the velocity input is calculated by summing the velocity output error and the velocity input,both from the previous time ***,the position input is calculated by adding the position input from the previous time step to the numerical integral of the sum of the previous and current time steps’velocity *** numerical integral is computed by the trapezoidal *** modified RNN can generate the necessary input torque for the golf swing robot to accurately reproduce the teacher data in *** accuracy of the RNN using the proposed structure is found to be superior compared to a RNN using conventional state feedback.

The SWAT model was used to predict total phosphorus (TP) loadings for a 1555-ha karst watershed—Chapel Branch Creek (CBC)—which drains to a lake via a reservoir-like embayment (R-E). The model was first tested for monthly streamflow predictions from tributaries draining three potential source areas as well as the downstream R-E, followed by TP loadings using data collected March 2007-October 2009. Source areas included 1) a golf course that received applied wastewater, 2) urban areas, highway, and some agricultural lands, and 3) a cave spring draining a second golf course along with agricultural and forested areas, including a substantial contribution of subsurface water via karst connectivity. SWAT predictions of mean monthly TP loadings at the first two source outlets were deemed reasonable. However, the predictions at the cave spring outlet were somewhat poorer, likely due to diffuse variable groundwater flow from an unknown drainage area larger than the actual surface watershed, for which monthly subsurface flow was represented as a point source during simulations. Further testing of the SWAT model to predict monthly TP loadings at the R-E, modeled as a completely mixed system, resulted in their over-predictions most of the months, except when high lake water levels occurred. The mean monthly and annual flows were calibrated to acceptable limits with the exception of flow over-prediction when lake levels were low and surface water from tributaries disappeared into karst connections. The discrepancy in TP load predictions was attributed primarily to the use of limited monthly TP data collected during baseflow in the embayment. However, for the 22-month period, over-prediction of mean monthly TP load (34.6 kg/mo) by 13% compared to measured load (30.6 kg/mo) in the embayment was deemed acceptable. Simulated results showed a 42% reduction in TP load due to settling in the embayment.

Plyometrics training,can improve the club speed,ball speed and the hitting distance in swinging and *** to the experimental method,15 professional golfers were randomly selected as the reference object,and 24 golfers joined the 8 weeks of plyometrics *** conclusion was that after 8 weeks of plyometrics training,the experimental group had an increase of the club speed,ball speed and smash factor more obviously than that of the control *** by training years,there is still a gap between the two and professional *** the increase of club speed and ball speed,both groups have a certain increase in the carry length and total *** to the control group,the experimental group has further hitting distance,but there are still significant differences between them affected by training *** is suggested that during the teaching and training of golf techniques,practice of the stability of the lower limbs and the instability of the upper limbs should be increased,to improve the hitting distance.
