Contraceptive practice among postpartum urban women in Zibo city of Shandong province

Objectives: The objective of this study was to investigate the existing pattern of contraceptive use among postpartum women in urban areas of ***: A hospital based longitudinal study was carried out in Z ibo city, Shandong province of China from June 1996 to November 1997. Both quant itative and qualitative research approaches were used. This report mainly deals with the quantitative data. Qualitative data provided insights into the behavior of breastfeeding and contraceptive use, which helped to understand the percepti ons and behavior of people and community in this area. Information was obtained from 496 new parturient women who gave birth in the five district hospitals wher e they first were interviewed. They were then followed-up three timings for int erview at 42 days, four months and one year after delivery, respectively. Struct ured interview questionnaires filled out by trained interviewers. Total subjects of 492 women were for analysis in this ***: The results showed that 74.4% of women were using contr aceptive methods when they resuming the first sexual activity after delivery. Du ring postpartum period, the majority of women interviewed used condom within 3 m onths, for instance, at 3 months after delivery, there were still 84.5% of women use condom. Afterwards, most of them switched to IUD. Life table analysis shows that the continuation rates of full breastfeeding, abstinence, amenorrhea and a cceptance of contraceptive methods at 4 months after delivery were 35.5%, 68.2%, 5.0%, and 86.3%, respectively. Conclusion: The policy implications of this study are that contr aceptive services and information for postpartum women in urban areas need to be improved further. The contraceptive methods providing for postpartum women shou ld have more methods to let women choose and instead of only one method for all of postpartum women.

We analyzed the biogenic silica(BSi)content and produced a diatom-based summer sea-surface temperature(SST)reconstruction for sediment core GC4 from the Holsteinsborg Dyb,West *** aim was to reconstruct marine productivity and climatic fluctuations during the last *** BSi content and diatom abundance suggest relatively high marine productively during the interval of AD 1000–1400,corresponding in time to the Medieval Warm Period(MWP).The summer SST reconstruction indicates relatively warm conditions during AD 900–1100,followed by cooling after AD *** extended cooling period during AD 1400–1900 is characterized by prolonged low in reconstructed SST and high sea-ice *** BSi values fluctuated during this period,suggesting varying marine productivity during the Little Ice Age(LIA).There is no significant correlation between the BSi content and SST during the last millennium,suggesting that the summer SST has little influence on marine productively in the Holsteinsborg Dyb.A good correspondence between the BSi content and the element Ti counts in core GC4 suggests that silicate-rich meltwater from the Greenland ice sheet was likely responsible for changes in marine productively in the Holsteinsborg Dyb.

China is one of the countries where landslides caused the most fatalities in the last decades. The threat that landslide disasters pose to people might even be greater in the future, due to climate change and the increasing urbanization of mountainous areas. A reliable national-scale rainfall induced landslide susceptibility model is therefore of great relevance in order to identify regions more and less prone to landsliding as well as to develop suitable risk mitigating strategies. However, relying on imperfect landslide data is inevitable when modelling landslide susceptibility for such a large research area. The purpose of this study is to investigate the influence of incomplete landslide data on national scale statistical landslide susceptibility modeling for China. In this context, it is aimed to explore the benefit of mixed effects modelling to counterbalance associated bias propagations. Six influencing factors including lithology, slope,soil moisture index, mean annual precipitation, land use and geological environment regions were selected based on an initial exploratory data analysis. Three sets of influencing variables were designed to represent different solutions to deal with spatially incomplete landslide information: Set 1(disregards the presence of incomplete landslide information), Set 2(excludes factors related to the incompleteness of landslide data), Set 3(accounts for factors related to the incompleteness via random effects). The variable sets were then introduced in a generalized additive model(GAM: Set 1 and Set 2) and a generalized additive mixed effect model(GAMM: Set 3) to establish three national-scale statistical landslide susceptibility models: models 1, 2 and 3. The models were evaluated using the area under the receiver operating characteristics curve(AUROC) given by spatially explicit and non-spatial cross-validation. Over the last decade, remote sensing technologies have provided useful tools for a diverse range of sectors. G-STEP （GMES--space technology exchange partnership） is the University of Leicester＇s flagship project for innovation, training and education in GMES （global monitoring for environment and security） and GIS （geographical information systems） based technologies. G-STEP （part funded by the ERDF） is the first GMES accelerator initiative in the UK and is breaking new ground in the application of GMES and GIS. The core G-STEP team initiates and develops Knowledge Exchange Practices between the University and Life Long Learning partners in the East Midlands Region, through training packages and collaborative research projects. The programme integrates innovative research, to direct downstream applied training, supported by analytical processing of attendee assessment data. Collated information derived from these sources presents a unique opportunity to incorporate a statistically viable feedback cycle, making G-STEP the interface between pure and applied research, thus initiating downstream dissemination to groups and small business. In this paper, we outline the GMES and GIS training packages, and the route to market to increase uptake of underused data streams via university and regional entrepreneurs （start-ups） and established small business with a core interest in utilisation and dissemination of novel technologies in sustainable lifelong learning.

In this study, it is aimed to develop the flood risk analysis of Porsuk River, which is responsible for naming of the Porsuk Basin sub basin of Sakarya Basin, by utilizing the methods of Remote Sensing (RS) and Geographical Information Systems (GIS). In addition, flood elevation effects of Porsuk River in Eskişehir city and the regions around were investigated. Necessary data for study were obtained from Eskişehir 3. Regional Directorate of State Hydraulic Works archives. For analyses, the cross section of Porsuk River was defined in the Hydrologic Engineering Centers River Analysis System (HEC-RAS) software. Subsequently, recurring periods of 50, 100 and 1000 years discharge of Porsuk River which is calculated as 51.83 m3/s, 60.15 m3/s and 86.66 m3/s respectively were inputted in the software to obtain analysis results. Obtained results from the present study and topographic data were compared and interpreted. As a result, elevation of flood and its risks for urban regions were studied and presented.

Spatially explicit modeling techniques recently emerged as an alternative to monitor land use changes. This study adopted the well-known CLUE-S(Conversion of Land Use and its Effects at Small regional extent) model to analyze the spatio-temporal land use changes in a hot-spot in Northeast China(NEC). In total,13 driving factors were selected to statistically analyze the spatial relationships between biophysical and socioeconomic factors and individual land use types. These relationships were then used to simulate land use dynamic changes during 1980–2010 at a 1 km spatial resolution,and to capture the overall land use change patterns. The obtained results indicate that increases in cropland area in NEC were mainly distributed in the Sanjiang Plain and the Songnen Plain during 1980–2000,with a small reduction between 2000 and 2010. An opposite pattern was identified for changes in forest areas. Forest decreases were mainly distributed in the Khingan Mountains and the Changbai Mountains between 1980 and 2000,with a slight increase during 2000–2010. The urban areas have expanded to occupy surrounding croplands and grasslands,particularly after the year 2000. More attention is needed on the newly gained croplands,which have largely replaced wetlands in the Sanjiang Plain over the last decade. Land use change patterns identified here should be considered in future policy making so as to strengthen local eco-environmental security.

Introduction:Interrelated social and ecological challenges demand an understanding of how environmental change and management decisions affect human *** paper out-lines a framework for measuring human well-being for ecosystem-based management(EBM).We present a prototype that can be adapted and developed for various scales and *** and managers use indicators to assess status and trends in integrated ecosystem assessments(IEAs).To improve the social science rigor and success of EBM,we developed a systematic and transparent approach for evaluating indicators of human well-being for an ***:Our process is based on a comprehensive conceptualization of human well-being,a scalable analysis of management priorities,and a set of indicator screening criteria tailored to the needs of *** tested our approach by evaluating more than 2000 existing social indicators related to ocean and coastal management of the US West *** focused on two foundational attributes of human well-being:resource access and *** and Discussion:Our results suggest that existing indicators and data are limited in their ability to reflect linkages between environmental change and human well-being,and extremely limited in their ability to assess social equity and *** reveal a critical need for new social indicators tailored to answer environmental questions and new data that are disaggregated by social variables to measure *** both,we stress the importance of collaborating with the people whose well-being is to be ***:Our framework is designed to encourage governments and communities to carefully assess the complex tradeoffs inherent in environmental decision-making.
