Doline susceptibility mapping using multisource data in the karst aquifers of Saldaran mountain,High Zagros Belt

Doline susceptibility mapping(DSM)in karst aquifer is important in terms of estimating the vulnerability of the aquifer to pollutants,estimating the infiltration rate,and infrastructures exposed to the development of *** this research,doline susceptibility map was prepared in Saldaran mountain by generalized linear model(GLM)using 14 affecting parameters extracted from satellite images,digital elevation model,and geology *** 8 parameters have been inputted to the model which had correlation with *** this regards,306 dolines were identified by the photogrammetric Unmanned Aerial Vehicles(UAV)method in 600 hectares of Salderan lands and then,these data were divided into the training(70%)and testing(30%)data for *** results of DSM modeling showed that classified probability of doline occurrences in the Saldaran mountain were as follow:16.5%of the area high to very high,72%in the class of low to very low,and 5%in the moderate ***,locally,in Saldaran mountain,the Pirghar aquifer has the highest potential for the doline development,followed by Bagh Rostam and Sarab ***,the precipitation,digital elevation model,Topographic Position Index,drainage density,slope,TRASP(transformed the circular aspect to a radiation index),Snow-Covered Days and vegetation cover index are of highest importance in the DSM modeling,*** evaluation of the model using the Receiver Operating Characteristics(ROC)curve represents a very good accuracy(AUC=0.953)of the DSM model.

Wetland and habitat dynamics in the evolving landscape of the Middle Yangtze River Basin

Wetlands play a critical role in the global *** Middle Yangtze River Basin(MYRB),known for its abundant wetland resources,has experienced notable changes resulting from the complex interplay of environmental ***,we investigated the spatiotemporal characteristics of wetland ecological quality in the MYRB from 2001 to *** the random forest(RF)regression algorithm and patch-generated land-use simulation(PLUS)model,we forecasted variations in wetland habitat quality and their determinants under the Shared Socioeconomic Pathway-Representative Concentration Pathway(SSPRCP)framework from 2035 to *** main findings are as follows:(1)The RF algorithm was optimal for land-use and land-cover(LULC)classification in the MYRB from 2001 to 2020,when notable changes were observed in water bodies and ***,the forested area exhibited an increase and decrease of 3.9%and 1.2%under the SSP1-2.6 and SSP5-8.5 scenarios,respectively,whereas farmland exhibited a diminishing trend.(2)Wetlands were primarily concentrated in the central and eastern MYRB,with counties in the southwest exhibiting superior ecological-environmental quality from 2001 to ***,wetland coverage revealed significantly high level,significant changes,frequent but relatively minor changes under the SSP1-2.6,SSP2-4.5,and SSP 5-8.5 scenarios,respectively.(3)Regions with lower habitat quality were primarily concentrated in urbanized areas characterized by frequent human activities,indicating a clear degradation in habitat quality across different *** conclusion,we established a foundational framework for future investigations into the eco-hydrological processes and ecosystem quality of watersheds.

Assessing the Diurnal and Spatial Role of Greenspaces and Concrete Landscapes in Regulating Urban Microclimate

Amidst Dhaka city’s rapidly growing urban fabric, Dhanmondi Lake is one of the few remaining natural features that directly impacts the area’s microclimate, which is especially relevant to combating the increasing urban heat island phenomenon. This research investigates the lake’s diurnal and spatial impact on local temperature and humidity variations between greenspaces and concrete landscapes. Data from 14 monitoring points, collected over two months (March-April 2024), were analyzed using descriptive statistics (mean, median, standard deviation) and inferential statistics (Pearson’s correlation coefficient), alongside spatial analysis through Inverse Distance Weighting (IDW) to visualize microclimate patterns. The results demonstrate that during the daytime, temperatures are higher in concrete areas and lower near the lake, with a strong positive correlation between distance from the lake and temperature across the lake (r = 0.933, p = 0.002). Conversely, at night, temperature decreases as the distance from the lake increases, with a strong negative correlation between them (r = −0.983, p = 0.000). The recorded nighttime temperature was relatively stable with a small variation (mean = 28.47˚C, SD = 0.21˚C) across the lake, suggesting the lake’s ability to retain heat at night. In contrast, the average temperature in the areas near the lake was relatively more stable (mean = 28.59˚C, SD = 0.06˚C). Humidity consistently showed a strong negative correlation with distance from the lake both day (r = −0.993, p = 0.000) and night (r = −0.977, p = 0.000), with higher humidity levels near the lake and lower concrete areas. These findings emphasize that distance from the lake and greenspace is a key factor influencing microclimate. The results lead to policy recommendations highlighting integrating natural elements into urban planning to mitigate urban heat island (UHI) effects and enhance thermal comfort.

Sustainable Waste Management across Cameroon Cities: Households Perspective in Nkongsamba, Littoral Region

This study examines sustainable waste management practices from the household perspective in Nkongsamba, Cameroon, highlighting challenges and opportunities within urban settings. The research is guided by three primary objectives: 1) to assess the current waste management practices among households;2) to identify the barriers to effective waste disposal and recycling;and 3) to explore community perceptions regarding municipal waste management services. Employing a mixed-methods approach, data were collected through semi-structured questionnaires administered to 155 households and complemented by field observations. Qualitative insights were gathered from interviews with municipal leaders, quarter heads, and waste recycling agents. This dual approach allowed for a comprehensive understanding of waste management behaviors and stakeholder perspectives. The findings reveal that while many households engage in basic waste separation, significant barriers persist, including inadequate municipal services, lack of awareness about recycling benefits, and insufficient infrastructure. Additionally, community perceptions indicate a general distrust in municipal waste management effectiveness, leading to alternative disposal methods. Based on these findings, the study recommends enhancing public awareness campaigns about proper waste management practices and the benefits of recycling. Furthermore, investment in waste management infrastructure and improved service delivery from local authorities is crucial. Engaging communities in the development of waste management policies will also foster trust and cooperation, ultimately contributing to more sustainable waste management practices across Nkongsamba and other cities in Cameroon.

Runoff simulation and hydropower resource prediction of the Kaidu River Basin in the Tianshan Mountains,China

The Tianshan Mountains of Central Asia,highly sensitive to climate change,has been comprehensively assessed for its ecosystem vulnerability across multiple ***,studies on the region's main river systems and hydropower resources remain ***,examining the impact of climate change on the runoff and gross hydropower potential(GHP)of this region is essential for promoting sustainable development and effective management of water and hydropower *** study focused on the Kaidu River Basin that is situated above the Dashankou Hydropower Station on the southern slope of the Tianshan Mountains,*** utilizing an ensemble of bias-corrected global climate models(GCMs)from Coupled Model Intercomparison Project Phase 6(CMIP6)and the Variable Infiltration Capacity(VIC)model coupled with a glacier module(VIC-Glacier),we examined the variations in future runoff and GHP during 2017-2070 under four shared socio-economic pathway(SSP)scenarios(SSP1-2.6,SSP2-4.5,SSP3-7.0,and SSP5-8.5)compared to the baseline period(1985-2016).The findings indicated that precipitation and temperature in the Kaidu River Basin exhibit a general upward trend under the four SSP scenarios,with the fastest rate of increase in precipitation under the SSP2-4.5 scenario and the most significant changes in mean,maximum,and minimum temperatures under the SSP5-8.5 scenario,compared to the baseline period(1980-2016).Future runoff in the basin is projected to decrease,with rates of decline under the SSP1-2.6,SSP2-4.5,SSP3-7.0,and SSP5-8.5 scenarios being 3.09,3.42,7.04,and 7.20 m^(3)/s per decade,*** trends in GHP are consistent with runoff,with rates of decline in GHP under the SSP1-2.6,SSP2-4.5,SSP3-7.0,and SSP5-8.5 scenarios at 507.74,563.33,1158.44,and 1184.52 MW/10a,*** to the baseline period(1985-2016),the rates of change in GHP under the SSP1-2.6,SSP2-4.5,SSP3-7.0,and SSP5-8.5 scenarios are-20.66%,-20.93%,-18.91%,and-17.49%,*** Kaidu Ri

To achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals(SDGs)by 2030,it is essential to understand the interlinkages between the *** research has investigated these interactions by focusing on their ***,few studies have systematically prioritized them from a structural perspective through the complementarity measurements and empirically validated their policy effectiveness,such as which goals and indicators impact other SDGs most,especially in *** study introduces a new concept known as the‘SDG space’by employing the“Product Space”approach in network science and *** measures the complementarities between SDGs and indicators through their network structures in investigating effective policy *** the most recent available but unpublished data for 31 Chinese provinces,the SDG space was constructed at the 17 SDG and 118 indicator levels by analyzing the probability of comparative advantage between each SDG or indicator pair co-occurring in the same *** data confirm that in the‘SDG Space’network,a goal connected to other well-developed goals would enjoy better future growth and vice *** structure reveals that SDG 4(Quality Education),15(Life on Land),and 1(No Poverty)are critical goals with transformative synergies to other ***,we identified strong complementarities between land-based ecosystems and clean water and climate actions using the finer-grained indicator-level *** findings help pave the way for China toward a sustainable future by providing science-based policy recommendations for *** can be generally applied to other countries and regions to assist in navigating toward sustainable development.

Analyzing carbon emissions and influencing factors in Chengdu-Chongqing urban agglomeration counties

Majority of carbon emissions originate from fossil energy consumption,thus necessitating calculation and monitoring of carbon emissions from energy *** this study,we utilized energy consumption data from Sichuan Province and Chongqing Municipality for the years 2000 to 2019 to estimate their statistical carbon *** then employed nighttime light data to downscale and infer the spatial distribution of carbon emissions at the county level within the Chengdu-Chongqing urban ***,we analyzed the spatial pattern of carbon emissions at the county level using the coefficient of variation and spatial autocorrelation,and we used the Geographically and Temporally Weighted Regression(GTWR)model to analyze the influencing factors of carbon emissions at this *** results of this study are as follows:(1)from 2000 to 2019,the overall carbon emissions in the Chengdu-Chongqing urban agglomeration showed an increasing trend followed by a decrease,with an average annual growth rate of 4.24%.However,in recent years,it has stabilized,and 2012 was the peak year for carbon emissions in the Chengdu-Chongqing urban agglomeration;(2)carbon emissions exhibited significant spatial clustering,with high-high clustering observed in the core urban areas of Chengdu and Chongqing and low-low clustering in the southern counties of the Chengdu-Chongqing urban agglomeration;(3)factors such as GDP,population(Pop),urbanization rate(Ur),and industrialization structure(Ic)all showed a significant influence on carbon emissions;(4)the spatial heterogeneity of each influencing factor was evident.

Rainfall impacts on nonpoint nitrogen and phosphorus dynamics in an agricultural river in subtropical montane reservoir region of southeast China

The increased frequency and intensity of heavy rainfall events due to climate change could potentially influence the movement of nutrients from land-based regions into recipient ***,little information is available on how the rainfall affect nutrient dynamics in subtropicalmontane rivers with complex land *** study conducted high-frequency monitoring to study the effects of rainfall on nutrients dynamics in an agricultural river draining to Lake Qiandaohu,a montane reservoir of southeast *** results showed that riverine total nitrogen(TN)and total phosphorus(TP)concentrations increased continuously with increasing rainfall intensity,while TN:TP *** heavy rainfall and rainstorm drove more than 30%of the annual N and P loading in only 5.20%of the total rainfall period,indicating that increased storm runoff is likely to exacerbate eutrophication in montane ***_(3)^(−)-N is the primary nitrogen form lost,while particulate phosphorus(PP)dominated phosphorus *** source of N is cropland,and themain source of P is residential ***,forestedwatersheds have better drainage quality,while it is still a potential source of nonpoint pollution during rainfall *** and TP concentrations were significantly higher at sites dominated by cropland and residential area,indicating their substantial contributions to deteriorating river water ***,TN and TP concentrations reached high values in May-August when rainfall was most intense,while they were lower in autumn and winter than that in spring and summer under the same rainfall *** results emphasize the influence of rainfall-runoff and land use on dynamics of riverine N and P loads,providing guidance for nutrient load reduction planning for Lake Qiandaohu.

Assessment of future cotton production in the Tarim River Basin under climate model projections and water management

Climate change is significantly impacting cotton production in the Tarim River Basin. The study investigated the climate change characteristics from 2021 to 2100 using climate change datasets simulated per the Coupled Model Inter-comparison Project phase six (CMIP6) climatic patterns under the Shared Socioeconomic Pathways SSP2-4.5 and SSP5-8.5. The DSSAT-CROPGRO-Cotton model， along with stepwise multiple regression analyses， was used to simulate changes in the potential yield of seed cotton due to climate change. The results show that while future temperatures in the Tarim River Basin will rise significantly， changes in precipitation and radiation during the cotton-growing season are minimal. Seed cotton yields are more sensitive to low temperatures than to precipitation and radiation. The potential yield of seed cotton under the SSP2-4.5 scenario would increase by 14.8%， 23.7%， 29.0%， and 29.4% in the 2030S， 2050S， 2070S， and 2090S， respectively. In contrast， under the SSP5-8.5 scenario， the potential yield of seed cotton would see increases of 17.5%， 27.1%， 30.1%， and 22.6% respectively. Except for the 2090s under the SSP5-8.5 scenario， future seed cotton production can withstand a 10% to 20% deficit in irrigation. These findings will help develop climate change adaptation strategies for cotton cultivation.

Spatiotemporal variation and driving factors of vegetation net primary productivity in the Guan-zhong Plain Urban Agglomeration,China from 2001 to 2020

Studying the spatiotemporal variation and driving mechanisms of vegetation net primary productivity(NPP)in the Guanzhong Plain Urban Agglomeration(GPUA)of China is highly important for regional green and low-carbon *** study used the Theil-Sen trend analysis,Mann-Kendall trend test,coefficient of variation,Hurst index,and machine learning method(eXtreme Gradient Boosting and SHapley Additive exPlanations(XGBoost-SHAP))to analyze the spatiotemporal variation of NPP in the GPUA from 2001 to 2020 and reveal its response to climate change and human *** results found that during 2001-2020,the averageNPP in the GPUA showed a significant upward trend,with an annual growth rate of 10.84 g C/(m^(2)•a).The multi-year average NPP in the GPUA was 484.83 g C/(m^(2)•a),with higher values in the southwestern Qinling Mountains and lower values in the central and northeastern cropland and built-up *** average coefficient of variation of NPP in the GPUA was 0.14,indicating a relatively stable state overall,but 72.72%of the study area showed weak anti-persistence,suggesting that NPP in most areas may have declined in the short *** to XGBoost-SHAP analyses,elevation,land use type and precipitation were identified as the main driving factors of *** precipitation and higher temperatures promote NPP growth,whereas extreme climates,high population density,and nighttime lighting inhibit *** study has important theoretical and practical significance for achieving regional sustainable development,offers a scientific basis for formulating effective ecological protection and restoration strategies,and promotes green,coordinated,and sustainable development in the GPUA.
