FMRI has been used to study acupuncture effects for more than 10 years now. Many investigators have shown activations and deactivations of cortical structures, mostly of the limbic system （amygdala, insula, cingular cortex） that were interpreted as a modulation of the limbic network .As some of these structures also coordinate vegetative functions, recently interest has grown in imaging vegetative brainstem centers.

Objective To determine the association of carotid plaque features with collateral circulation status in elderly patients with moderate to severe carotid *** Elderly patients(>60 years)with moderate to severe carotid stenosis were recruited and categorized into good and poor collateral circulation groups,and underwent magnetic resonance imaging and computed tomography *** carotid plaque features including lipid-rich necrotic core,intraplaque hemorrhage,calcification,and fibrous cap rupture(FCR)were evaluated,and maximum wall thickness,normalized wall index(NWI),and luminal stenosis were *** association between these variables and collateral circulation status was *** Of the 97 patients(78 males,mean age:69.0±6.1 years),19(19.6%)had poor *** poor collateral group had a significantly higher NWI(93.7%±5.0%vs.89.0%±7.9%,P=0.011),a greater extent of stenosis(80.0%±11.4%vs.75.3%±9.4%,P=0.036)and FCR(84.2%vs.55.1%,P=0.020)compared with good collateral *** NWI(OR=3.83,95%CI:1.36–10.82,P=0.011)and more FCR(OR=6.77,95%CI:1.35–33.85,P=0.020)were associated with poor collateral circulation after adjustment for the confounding *** combination of NWI,FCR,systolic blood pressure,and triglycerides had the highest area-under-the-curve(AUC=0.85)for detection of poor *** Carotid plaque features,specifically NWI and FCR,are independently associated with poor collateral circulation,and the combination of carotid plaque features and traditional risk factors has a stronger predictive value for poor collateral circulation than plaque features alone.

Carbon nanodots(CDs) based fluorescent nanoprobes have recently drawn much attention in chemo-/bio-sensing and ***,it is still challenging to integrate the colorimetric and fluorometric dual readouts into a single ***,novel hybrid CDs(HCDs) are prepared by a simple microwave-assisted reaction of citric acid(CA),branched polyethyleneimine(BPEI) and potassium thiocyanate(KSCN).As-prepared HCDs show extraordinary properties,including excitation-dependent emission,satisfactory fluorescence quantum yield(46.8%),excellent biocompatibility and optical ***,the fluorescence intensity at 450 nm exhibits linear correlation over the Fe^(3+)concentration from 1 mmol/L to 150 mmol/L with a detection limit(LOD) of 52 nmol/***,the solution color changes from colorless to orange,and the absorbance at 460 nm increased linearly with Fe^(3+)concentration ranging from 0.02 mmol/L to 5 mmol/L(LOD:3.4 mmol/L).All the evidence illustrates that the HCDs can be conditioned for specific Fe^(3+)sensing with colorimetric and fluorometric dual readouts,which has also been verified with paper-based *** possible mechanism is attributed to the specific interactions between surface functional groups on the HCDs and Fe^(3+).Additionally,the HCDs are successfully applied in sensing Fe^(3+)in wastewater and living cells,demonstrating its potential applications in future environment monitoring and disease diagnosis.

BACKGROUND The 2018 American Heart Association/American Stroke Association guidelines for early management of acute ischemic stroke recommend the use of retrievable stents for mechanical thrombectomy in patients with acute internal carotid artery or middle cerebral artery M1 occlusion that can be treated within 6 h from *** cases of carotid artery with ipsilateral middle cerebral artery tandem embolization, the operation is more complicated and challenging. We here report a case of a tandem embolism, and the anatomy of the aortic arch was *** carotid artery incision and thrombectomy can not only prevent the escape of the carotid embolus but also save time during establishment of the thrombectomy *** SUMMARY The patient was a 70-year-old man. He was admitted to hospital due to sudden inability to speak and inability to move his right limb for 3 h. imaging confirmed a diagnosis of a tandem embolism in the left carotid artery with left M1 *** artery incision thrombectomy combined with stent thrombectomy was performed. The operation was successful, and 24 h later the patient was conscious and mentally competent but had motor aphasia. His bilateral limb muscle strength level was 5, and his neurologic severity scores score was *** Carotid artery incision thrombectomy combined with stenting for carotid artery plus cerebral artery tandem embolization is clinically feasible. For patients with a complicated aortic arch and an extremely tortuous carotid artery, carotid artery incision can be chosen to establish the interventional path.

Apolipoprotein E4（ApoE4） is a prominent genetic risk factor for Alzheimer＇s disease. The purpose of this review is to explore differences in structural brain volume detected by magnetic resonance imaging between cognitively intact ApoE4 carriers and non-carriers across the lifespan（i.e., older adults, middle-aged adults, young adults, children and adolescents, and neonates）. Consistent findings are found throughout various developmental stages. This area of research may elucidate the mechanisms by which ApoE4 influences risk of developing Alzheimer＇s disease. It could also inform potential treatment strategies and interventions for carriers of the ApoE4 allele.

Lower back pain is one of the most common medical problems in the world and it is experienced by a huge percentage of people *** to its ability to produce a detailed view of the soft tissues,including the spinal cord,nerves,intervertebral discs,and vertebrae,Magnetic Resonance imaging is thought to be the most effective method for imaging the *** semantic segmentation of vertebrae plays a major role in the diagnostic process of lumbar *** is difficult to semantically partition the vertebrae in Magnetic Resonance Images from the surrounding variety of tissues,including muscles,ligaments,and intervertebral discs.U-Net is a powerful deep-learning architecture to handle the challenges of medical image analysis tasks and achieves high segmentation *** work proposes a modified U-Net architecture namely MU-Net,consisting of the Meijering convolutional layer that incorporates the Meijering filter to perform the semantic segmentation of lumbar vertebrae L1 to L5 and sacral vertebra ***-colour mask images were generated and used as ground truth for training the *** work has been carried out on 1312 images expanded from T1-weighted mid-sagittal MRI images of 515 patients in the Lumbar Spine MRI Dataset publicly available from Mendeley *** proposed MU-Net model for the semantic segmentation of the lumbar vertebrae gives better performance with 98.79%of pixel accuracy(PA),98.66%of dice similarity coefficient(DSC),97.36%of Jaccard coefficient,and 92.55%mean Intersection over Union(mean IoU)metrics using the mentioned dataset.
