Aquaculture is the fastest growing food producing sector,accounting for almost 50%of the animal protein consumed globally,with the expectation that it will rise to 65%by 2030,due to the increasing emphasis on fish products as important components of a healthy ***,EU production is stagnating with approximately 60–65%of European demand for fish products being imported(EUMOFA,2021).The reason for this is complex and the sector faces a number of challenges.

Objective The goal of this study is to investigate the inappropriate activation of Wnt pathway in the hepatocarcinogenesis. Methods We analyzed the alterations of three key components of Wnt pathway, β-catenin, glycogen synthase kinase 3β (GSK-3β) and T cell factor 4 (Tcf-4), in 34 samples of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and paracancerous normal liver by immunohistochemistry, polymerase chain reaction-single strand conformation polymorphism (PCR-SSCP), direct sequencing, semi-quantitative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and in situ hybridization. Results We found 61.8% (21/34) of all the HCCs examined showed an abnormal β-catenin protein accumulation in the cytoplasm or nuclei. RT-PCR-SSCP and direct sequencing showed that β-catenin exon 3 mutations existed in 44.1% (15/34) of the HCCs. No mutations of GSK-3β or Tcf-4 were detected in HCCs. Moreover, mRNA of β-catenin and Tcf-4 but not GSK-3β was found to be over expressed in HCCs. On analyzing the relationship between alterations of β-catenin or Tcf-4 and C-myc or Cyclin D1 expression, we found that the mutations of β-catenin as well as over expression of β-catenin or Tcf-4 gene were independently correlated with C-myc gene over expression in HCCs. Conclusions Our present findings strongly suggest mutations of β-catenin as well as over expression of β-catenin and Tcf-4 gene activate the Wnt pathway in HCC independently with the target gene most likely to be C-myc.

Apple fruits have components of therapeutic *** components,to a great extent,decline or decompose during post-harvest that negatively affect fruit *** fruit-filming has proved useful in maintaining these *** study aims,therefore,at enhancing Chitosan coating-film performance by mixing with some olive wastes extracts of leaf and pomace *** fruits were sprayed with six different coating formulas including chitosan-water wax coating,in addition to the uncoated ***,the total phenolic,flavonoids,antioxidants,pigments,weight loss,decay area,and microstructure were *** bioactive substances drastically changed in uncoated rather than coated ***,weight loss and decay area significantly increased in uncoated ***,the addition of olive leaf extract to chitosan coating films meaningfully reduced the gradual decline in total phenolic,flavonoids and *** pomace extract recorded the lowest influencing on anthocyanins during storage at 4±1C for 35 ***,both olive leaf and pomace extracts enhanced the coating distribution,due to no pores were observed in the fruits’***,incorporation of olive leaf extracts with 2%into chitosan coating solution was the best formula comparable with the ***,olive wastes extracts,incorporated into chitosan fruit coatings;relatively improve the nutritional quality of apple fruits during post-harvest.

"Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food"—the ancient adage proposed by Greek philoso-pher Hippocrates of Kos thousands of years ago al-ready acknowledged the importance of the beneficial and health-promoting effects of food nutrients on the body(Mafra et al.,2021).Recent epidemiological and large-scale community studies have also reported that unhealthy diets or eating habits may contribute heavily to the burden of chronic,non-communicable diseases,such as obesity,type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM),hypertension,cardiovascular disease(CVD),cancer,neurodegenerative diseases,arthritis,chronic kidney disease(CKD),and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(COPD)(Jayedi et al.,2020;Gao et al.,2022).Emerging evidence highlights that a diet rich in fruits and vegetables can prevent various chronic diseases(Chen et al.,2022).food bioactive compounds includ-ing vitamins,phytochemicals,and dietary fibers are responsible for these nutraceutical benefits.

The objective of the present study was to evaluate potential adverse effects of diacylglycerol microemulsion （DAGM） in rats/mice. Acute safety evaluation was carried out by giving intragastrically with 20 mL 25% DAG kg-1 body weight of DAGM or water with two groups of mice. Chronic safety evaluation with 40 male and 40 female Sprague-Dawley rats was carried out by setting a control group and 3 different dose groups （n=10 male＋10 female） administered with DAGM with 6.7, 10 and 20 mL kg-1 body weight per day. Relevant parameters of liver and kidney function and biochemistry were determined by standard methods at end point. Acute toxicity study revealed the maximum tolerated dose （MTD） of DAGM was 20 mL kg-1 body weight in mice. No death was observed at the dose of 20 mL kg-1 body weight per day. Chronic safety evaluation did not show significant changes on hematological, histopathologic, clinical, and biochemical tests when administered at levels of 6.7, 10 and 20 mL kg-1 body weight per day to rats for 30 d. No significant body weight changes were observed in different dosages in both male and female rats. Our results suggested that acute and chronic adverse effects were not observed in histology and clinical parameters in both mice and rats. The results suggested that DAGM is safe at the experimental levels.

Some lignocellulosic biomass like corncob contains a large amount of xylan,a valuable material for applications in food,chemical and pharmaceutical *** extraction of xylan is a time consuming process,requiring 12 to 24 hours to *** this study,the efficacy of power ultrasound for reducing the extraction time and increasing the xylan yield was *** acoustic energy densities(0.18 W/mL and 0.45 W/mL)of the power ultrasound were applied to corncob for 10,20,30,and 60 *** treated samples were steamed at 110,118 and 121℃for 30 *** 0.45 W/mL acoustic energy density and 121℃steaming temperature,ultrasonic treatment was able to extract 39%of xylan in 43 *** contrast,the conventional treatment was able to extract only 34%of xylan in 24 *** ultrasound assisted extraction reduced the processing time by 97%in addition to yield increase by 14.7%.Power ultrasound can be a potential technology for enhanced xylan extraction from corncob to result in significant processing time savings.

Numerous polysaccharides isolated from plants have been used to augment traditional drugs in the treatment of *** order to explore the influence to hepatocellular carcinoma,a novel cold water-soluble polysaccharide was separated from Rhodiola rosea ***(RLP)and then its structure and anti-cancer activities were *** chemical compositions and high performance gel permeation chromatography(HPGPC)results indicated that RLP was an acid heteropolysaccharide with the molecular weight of about1.15×10~6 ***,ion chromatography(IC),Fourier transform infrared(FT-IR)and nuclear magnetic resoance(NMR)further indicated that RLP was main composed of→2,4)-α-Rha(1→,→5)-α-L-Araf-(1→,α-D-Glu,→6)-β-D-Galp-(1→,β-D-Man and→4)-α-GalpA-(1→.In vivo antitumor activities of RLP were carried out by using H22 tumor-bearing mice *** results shown that RLP(100 and 300 mg/kg)could inhibit tumor growth of H22 cells from 23.59%to 45.52%and protect thymuses and spleen without *** addition,according to cell cycle,AV-FITC/PI and JC-1,RLP could induce dose-dependent apopto sis of H22 cells via S phase arrested which was through a mitochondrial related *** data indicated that RLP has a broader application prospect in anti-tumor preparations.

Anthocyanin,as a typical food bioactive molecule,is capable of reversing inflammatory,oxidative and allergic condition thus contributes to intestinal *** were wondering whether anthocyanin has influence on the infiltration of inflammatory cells into the intestinal mucosa and thus help enhancing intestinal barrier which could be damaged in some metabolic *** this study,the influence of anthocyanin(administered orally)on the alterations(including structure and permeability)of the intestinal mucosa in mice in response to a high fat-high cholesterol(HFHC)diet was *** T helper 17(Th17)cells were isolated from mouse intestine tissues to observe the modulatory role of anthocyanin through the transcription phosphorylated STAT 3(p-STAT3).The results indicated that anthocyanin significantly alleviated HFHC-induced impairment in the intestinal structures and permeability in a dose-dependent manner;moreover,anthocyanin appeared to inhibit HFHC induced the expression of p-STAT3,thereby disturbing Th17 cell *** high-fat diet(HFD,cholesterol level non-modified)-challenged mice selective p-STAT3 inhibitor significantly reversed the effects of anthocyanin,which were decreased amount of interleukin(IL)-17A(produced and released from Th17 cells)and the protected intestinal structure/*** summary,the results of this study suggest that anthocyanin may attenuate the damage of intestinal barrier in HFHC mice through regulating intestinal STAT3-Th17-IL-17A signal transduction pathway.
