Microplastics(MPs)are synthetic contaminants that have received global attention due to their ubiquitous occurrence,extreme durability,and capacity to harm ecosystems and human *** study investigated the occurrence of MPs in three fish species(Channa striata,Puntius sophore and Anabas testudineus)collected from two locations(Ashulia Bridge and Mirpur Road)of the Turag River,which flows alongside the Dhaka city,*** abundance(items/individuals)was highest in Channa striata(3.8±0.6)from the Ashulia Bridge area and lowest in Puntius sophore(1.8±0.4)from the Mirpur Road *** was found to be the most dominant(89e93%)form of MPs followed by fragments(21 e35%),films(0e26%)and foams(0e5%).The dominant color of MPs was blue(69e83%),then red(20 e33%),black(11e14%),green(8e20%),and purple(6e8%).The majority(56e71%)of the MPs assessed werefishes and raised concern on public health particularly who consume fishes from the urban waterways.

The diet of juvenile,including hatchlings and presumed yearlings of the Saltwater Crocodile,Crocodylus porosus,was studied at the Kuching Wetlands National Park,western Sarawak,East Malaysia(Borneo),using both frequency of occurrence and volumetric composition of diet through the stomach flushing *** form the primary component of the diet of juvenile crocodiles,comprising shrimps of the family Atyidae(Caridina sp.,and Penaeus indicus),occurring in the stomach of 17 individuals(53%by occurrence).An estimated 91.7%of hatchlings stomach-flushed had shrimps,and the emergence of hatchlings may be associated by inland migration of its shellfish prey,as reported in the *** secondary food item of hatchlings and presumed yearlings was ocypodid crabs,occurring in 16 individuals(in addition to a subadult),and comprise 47%-50%by *** items taken incidentally include rodents(in large yearlings,exceeding 100 cm in total length),and fish(in seven hatchlings and in one subadult),or in 29%of total individuals captured(47.7%in hatchlings and 15%in yearlings).A dietary change in ontogeny is therefore evident,as reported earlier in crocodilians.

Invasive hybridization and introgression pose a serious threat to the persistence of many native species. Understand- ing the effects of hybridization on native populations （e.g., fitness consequences） requires numerous species-diagnostic loci dis- tributed genome-wide. Here we used RAD sequencing to discover thousands of single-nucleotide polymorphisms （SNPs） that are diagnostic between rainbow trout （RBT, Oncorhynchus mykiss）, the world＇s most widely introduced fish, and native westslope cutthroat trout （WCT, （9. clarkii lewisi） in the northern Rocky Mountains, USA. We advanced previous work that identified 4,914 species-diagnostic loci by using longer sequence reads （100 bp vs. 60 bp） and a larger set of individuals （n = 84）. We sequenced RAD libraries for individuals from diverse sampling sources, including native populations of WCT and hatchery broodstocks of WCT and RBT. We also took advantage of a newly released reference genome assembly for RBT to align our RAD loci. In total, we discovered 16,788 putatively diagnostic SNPs, 10,267 of which we mapped to anchored chromosome locations on the RBT genome. A small portion of previously discovered putative diagnostic loci （325 of 4,914） were no longer diagnostic （i.e., fixed between species） based on our wider survey of non-hybridized RBT and WCT individuals. Our study suggests that RAD loci mapped to a draft genome assembly could provide the marker density required to identify genes and chromosomal regions in- fluencing selection in admixed populations of conservation concern and evolutionary interest [Current Zoology 61 （1）： 146-154, 2015].

Occupational noise is commonly encountered during aquaculture. This study documented noise levels in two buildings at a production fish hatchery, a tank room with 32, 1.8-m diameter tanks, and a rearing pavilion with 32, 6.1-m diameter tanks. With water flowing to all of the tanks in the tank room, mean noise levels were 68.4 dB, and significantly increased to 73.0 dB during tank cleaning and 73.2 dB when intermittent automatic feeders were running. The highest tank room values of 77.1 dB were recorded directly next to individual tanks during cleaning. With water flowing to all of the tanks in the rearing pavilion, mean noise levels were 70.2 dB. A significant increase to 76.1 dB was observed when the pavilion tanks were being power washed, with the highest value of 83.2 dB recorded immediately adjacent to the power washer. Although none of the noise levels exceeded regulatory limits, the use of techniques to reduce occupational noise in aquaculture environments is recommended.

The inclusion of PepSoyGen (PSG), a commercially-available fermented soybean meal product, was evaluated with juvenile rainbow trout, Oncorhynchus mykiss in an initial 70-day feeding trial, with a supplemental trial involving a subset of the experimental diets continuing for an additional 40 d. Six diets containing 0%, 10%, 20%, 30%, 40%, or 50% PSG, with the PSG directly replacing fish meal, were used in the first trial. There were no significant differences in weight gain or feed conversion ratio between the fish meal-based control diet and diets containing up to 30% PSG. However, weight gain was significantly reduced and feed conversion ratio significantly increased with the 40% and 50% PSG diets. No health assessment differences were observed in fish receiving any of the diets, and no evidence of gross gut inflammation was evident. There were no significant differences in weight gain or feed conversion ratio among the four dietary treatments ranging from 0% to 30% PSG which were fed for an additional 40 d after the initial 70-d trial (110 days total). Based on these results, juvenile rainbow trout diets can contain up to 30% PSG without any loss of rearing performance, thereby replacing at least 60% of the fish meal.

Novel Surgical Technique for Acoustic Transmitter Insertion in Rainbow Trout Reduces the Need for Surgical Training

The implantation of acoustic transmitters into the peritoneal cavity of fish is typically performed by experienced surgeons. This study compared the effectiveness of an experienced and inexperienced surgeon performing two different types of transmitter insertion techniques on rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss). The methods used were either a traditional sutured ventral incision or a novel unsutured lateral incision. There was no significant difference in surgical duration, tag retention, or fish survival between the experienced and naïve surgeon. The time to complete surgical wound closure was not significantly different between the fish operated on by an experienced or naïve surgeon, and surgeon experience had no significant effect on the duration of inflammation. However, there were significant differences between the two surgical techniques, regardless of surgeon experience. The ventral incision with sutures method took approximately three times longer to complete than the lateral incision-only method. However, complete wound closure was significantly faster in the sutured ventral incision treatment compared to the unsutured lateral treatment. Post-surgery inflammation was over seven times longer in the fish with sutures compared to those only receiving a lateral incision. Tag retention was not significantly different between the two surgical methods. The results of this study indicate that the unsutured lateral surgical technique used in this experiment can be completed with minimal training and surgical experience in contrast to the standard technique requiring sutures. These results also provide additional support to the use of sutureless surgical techniques for acoustic transmitter implantation.

A mass-balanced Ecopath model presents a quantitative description of the trophic structure,fl ow of energy and trophic interaction among ecological groups of an *** Ecopath with Ecosim(EwE)modeling program(Version 6.5)was used to develop a preliminary trophic model for a tropical freshwater *** total fi sh biomass was 6.245 t/km 2 and the highest trophic level of the reservoir was 3.362(for snakehead).The ecosystem is phytoplankton based because primary producers originated 68%and detritus originated 32%of the total fl ow from lower trophic *** gross effi ciency of the fi shery was 0.004,suggesting the ineffi ciency of the *** positive eff ect of phytoplankton and detritus on most of the other groups were evident from mixed trophic analysis while moderately higher ecotrophic effi ciency(EE)of phytoplankton shows the ecosystem’s potential bottom-up *** competition for the same resources among diff erent groups was also *** ratio of primary production/respiration(1.969)suggests that the ecosystem is at the developing stage and utmost contemplation should be given to concerned human *** low value of relative ascendancy(30.13)and overhead(69.87)reveals the stability of the ecosystem and some degrees of *** also predicts the presence of signifi cant strength in reserve of the system to withstand or overcome any ***,ecologically sustainable resource management plans should be implemented to ensure the sustainability of this reservoir resources.

Influence of Amino Acid Supplementations in Juvenile Yellow Perch Fed Plant Protein Combinations

Distillers dried grains with solubles (DDGS) in combination with soy protein concentrate (SPC) with and without an essential amino acid (EAA) complex were assessed as protein alternatives in juvenile Yellow Perch Perca flavescens diets. Diets contained 5% FM, 40% SPC, and 20% or 40% DDGS each with or without EAA. No mortalities or health assessment differences were observed during the trial and all fish readily accepted the experimental diets. Diets supplemented with EAA produced greater weight gain, improved feed conversion, and apparent protein digestibility. Performance was consistently improved for fish fed diets containing amino acid supplements. Based on these results, Yellow Perch are able to utilize high levels of the plant proteins, accompanied with EAAs, as a FM replacer.

As a result of agriculture practices, million tons of agriculture are produced as a secondary or by-products; however, with low nutritive values. Many methods are applied to improve the nutritive value and increase its utilization in ruminant＇s nutrition. The biological treatments are the most common with more safe-treated products. In most cases, the biological treatments are paralleled with decreased crude fiber and fiber fractions content with increased crude protein content. Direct-fed microbial and exogenous enzymes to animal are other ways of biological methods for improving nutritive value of feeds. Here in this review, we will try to cover the biological treatments of by-products from different sides view with different types of animals and different animal end-products.
