Formation mechanism of reservoir oolitic dolomite in Lower Triassic Feixianguan formation, northeastern Sichuan Basin, southwest China

A series of marine natural gas fields were recently discovered in oolitic dolomites of the Lower Triassic Feixianguan formation, northeastern Sichuan Basin, southwest China. The mechanism forming these reservoir dolomites is debatable, limiting the ability to characterize these reservoir successfully. Based on the investigation of the representative Dukouhe, Luojiazhai, and Puguang areas, this issue was addressed by examining the distribution, petrology, and geochemistry of the dolomites, the most comprehensive study to date was provided. Dolomitization occurred at a very early stage of diagenesis, as shown by the petrological features of the rock fabric. Vadose silt, which is composed primarily of dolomitic clasts, is found in the primary and secondary pores of the oolitic dolomite. This indicates that the overlying strata were subjected to dolomitization when the Feixianguan formation was located in the vadose zone. Therefore, it may be inferred that the dolomitization which occurred before the formation was exposed to meteoric conditions. The spatial distribution and geochemical characteristics of the dolomite indicate that dolomitization occurred as a result of seepage reflux. The degree of dolomitization decreases with increasing distance from the evaporative lagoon. Furthermore, the type and porosity of the dolomite vary in different zones of the upward-shoaling sequence, with the porosity gradually decreasing from the highest layer to the lowest layer. This reflects a close relationship between dolomitization and seawater evaporation during the formation of the dolomite. Geochemical analysis provided further evidence for the relationship between the dolomitization fluid and the coeval seawater. The 87Sr/86Sr and 813C isotopes, as well as the abundances of trace elements, Fe and Mn, indicate that seawater concentrated by evaporation acted as the dolomitization fluid. Kuranakhite Discovered in China for the First Time

Kuranakhite was firstly discovered in the oxidezed zone of the Kuranakh gold mine,southern Russia,and since thewn there has been no report on it .Kuranakhite in this paper was discovered in the Jialu gold mine,Luonan,County,Shaanxi Province,The mineral often occurs as irregular granular aggregates varying from 0.05 to 0.25 mm in *** mineral is light brown to brown in color,translucent,brown in steak,and vitreous in luster,Hv is 231-439kg/mm^2,HM=4-5 and measured density is 6.72(2)g/cm^3,Its reflection color is bluish gray to light-blue and it shows middle anisotropism and weak *** polarization color is blue to grayish-brown and there is no internal *** index of refraction is: Na=2.01,Nβ=1.98,Nγ=1.96,The average composition is PbO 45.40wt%,MnO2 16.41wt%,TeO3 38.10wt%,totalling 99.91wt%,the empirical formula is Pb0.99 Mn0.92Te1.06O6,which can be simplified as *** lines in the X-ray power pattern[d(I)(hkl)]are:0.341(100),(111);0.2556(60),(130),0.2043(50),(041);0.1666(20),(310);0.1598(40),(241),and 0.1472(15),(330),It was determined that kuranakhite is orthorhombic;its space group may be C;a=0.511(1)nm,b=0.891(2)nm,c=0.532(1)nm,a:b=0.57,c:b=0.60;V=0.242(3)nm^3;z=2,and calculated density=6.66(1)g/cm^3.

Tectonic Setting of the Kadiri Schist Belt, Andhra Pradesh, India

Plate tectonic activity has played a critical role in the development of petrotectonic associations in the Kadiri schist belt. The calc alkaline association of basalt, andesite, dacite and rhyolite （BADR） is the signature volcanic rock suite of the convergent margin. The N-S belt has gone below the unconformity plane of Cuddapah sediments. In the northern part geochemical and structural attributes of the Kadiri greenstone belt is studied along with microscopic observations of selected samples. Harker diagram plots of major elements generally indicate a liquid line of descent from a common source, such that BADR rocks are derived from a common parent magma of basaltic to andesitic composition. These calc-alkaline volcanic rocks are formed at convergent margins where more silicic rocks represent more highly fractionated melt. All the litho-units of this greenstone belt indicate crush and strain effects. The stretched pebbles in the deformed volcanic matrix with tectonite development along with associated greenschist facies metamorphism, alteration and hydration is remarkable. Flow foliation plane with N-S strike and very low angle （5~ to 10~） easterly dip and N-S axial planar schistosity formed due to later phase isoclinal folding can be clearly identified in the field. Basic intrusives are quite common in the surrounding area. All the observations including the field setting and geochemistry clearly demonstrate ocean-continent subduction as the tectonic environment of the study area.

Mineralogical and Physical Characteristics of White Sandstone of Abu Rodeiyim Quarry(Sinai),and its Possible Industrial Utilization

Mineralogical, geochemical, and textural analyses of the white sandstones （Abu Thora Fm.） of Carboniferous in the Abu Rodeiyim region show that they are fluviomarine, well-sorted, highpurity, and high-grade silica SiO2 （average 99.56%）. The results indicate that by simple treatment, the white sandstones can reach a high degree of purity, suitable for different industrial purposes （e.g. manufacture of silicon photovoltaic, crystal, and TV screens, art, and domestic and optical glass）.

Major Tectonic Lineaments Influencing the Oilfields of the Zagros Fold-Thrust Belt, SW Iran: Insights from Integration of Surface and Subsurface Data

The Zagros fold-thrust belt(ZFTB)formed from the progressive collision between the African-Arabian and Eurasian *** study focuses on the major tectonic lineaments concerned with the distribution of oilfields in the southern Dezful Embayment as an extremely rich hydrocarbon province in the ZFTB,SW *** of surface,near-surface and sub-surface data(e.g.,remote sensing,overburden rocks,reservoir and aeromagnetic data)were used for locating major tectonic lineaments in the study *** results show that the southern Dezful Embayment area was influenced by tectonic lineaments oriented in the NW-SE,NE-SW,E-W and N-S trends,which are possible fault indicators corresponding to surface,shallow subsurface and basement *** dominant N-S and E-W tectonic lineaments possibly highlight the stress regime inherited from old structures in the Arabian Shield basement while the NE-SW,NW-SE trends are interpreted as effects of the Zagros ***,these tectonic lineaments influenced both the basement and sedimentary rocks and are used here to divide the belt into several faulted blocks with different structural frameworks.A clear picture of the tectonic trends influencing the Zagros fold-thrust belt oilfields as well as guidance for delineating hydrocarbon reservoirs in the future are presented.

Mechanisms and solubility equations of gas dissolving in water

The two mechanisms of gas dissolving in water, interstice filling and aquation, are proposed. General equations of gas solubility have been deduced from the mechanisms and experimental observations. Dependence of Henry’s coefficient on temperature, pressure, aquation equilibrium constant and gas molecular wlume is discussed. The theoretical equations were verified by experimental data, which shows that the theoretical results of the solubility of methane are in good agreement with the experimental data in the range of 20 -160℃ and under a pressure of less than 60 MPa.

Paleozoic Structural Deformation of Bachu Uplift,Tarim Basin of Northwest China:Implications for Plate Drifting

Based on high-resolution 2D seismic profiles, the Paleozoic structural deformation char- acteristics of Bachu （巴楚） uplift of northwestern Tarim basin, NW China, are exhibited in this article. The deformation happened during three main geological periods： the end of Middle-Late Ordovician （O2-3）, the end of Early-Middle Devonian （D1-2）, and the end of Late Permian （P2）. In the Bachu uplift, there developed a series of NW-trending thrust faults and imbricate structures due to the effect of the NW-SE compression stress towards the end of Middle-Late Ordovician （O2-3）（middle Caledonian movement）, and there developed some NNE-trending thrust faults and fault blocks under the control of the NEE-SWW compression stress at the end of Early-Middle Devonian （D1-2）（early Hercynian movement）. However, at the end of Late Permian （P2）（late Hercynian movement）, some NE-trending thrust faults and associated folds developed as a result of the NE-SW compression stress. The first-stage （O2-3） deformation is obviously more violent than those of the latter two stages （D1-2 and P2）, which implies that the Tarim plate drifted quickly to the north at around the same time basin.

Surface radioactive anomalies at Srisailam sub basin,Cuddapah basin,India

Surface radioactive survey has been carried with portable gamma ray spectrometer(PGRS) about the 45 km2 around the Srisailam sub basin,the surface radioactive anomalies were found at Chennakesavula gutta in the Srisailam sub basin of Cuddapah basin in the age of meso-neo proterozoic,*** integrated geochemical and radiometric surveys were conducted as part of research work in the Srisailam basin,it has resulted the locating of surface radioactive anomalies near the Chennakesavula *** uranium minerals are observed along with the fracture planes in the Archean basement granite in the proximity of unconformity contact of Srisailam *** granite underlies the Srisailam formation and forms the source for possible unconformity related uranium mineralisation in the Srisailam sub-basin evidence by the significant radioactive *** radioactivity recorded by PGRS reflected uraniferous nature of the radioactivity(Average total counts =195 ppm;U = 202 ppm;Th =22ppm;%K = 4.1,n = 15).

3D rock physics template-based probabilistic estimation of tight sandstone reservoir properties

Quantitative prediction of reservoir properties(e.g., gas saturation, porosity, and shale content) of tight reservoirs is of great significance for resource evaluation and well placements. However, the complex pore structures, poor pore connectivity, and uneven fluid distribution of tight sandstone reservoirs make the correlation between reservoir parameters and elastic properties more complicated and thus pose a major challenge in seismic reservoir characterization. We have developed a partially connected double porosity model to calculate elastic properties by considering the pore structure and connectivity, and to analyze these factors' influences on the elastic behaviors of tight sandstone reservoirs. The modeling results suggest that the bulk modulus is likely to be affected by the pore connectivity coefficient, while the shear modulus is sensitive to the volumetric fraction of stiff pores. By comparing the model predictions with the acoustic measurements of the dry and saturated quartz sandstone samples, the volumetric fraction of stiff pores and the pore connectivity coefficient can be determined. Based on the calibrated model, we have constructed a 3D rock physics template that accounts for the reservoir properties' impacts on the P-wave impedance, S-wave impedance, and density. The template combined with Bayesian inverse theory is used to quantify gas saturation, porosity, clay content, and their corresponding uncertainties from elastic parameters. The application of well-log and seismic data demonstrates that our 3D rock physics template-based probabilistic inversion approach performs well in predicting the spatial distribution of high-quality tight sandstone reservoirs in southwestern China.

Geochemical Assessment and Lateral Reservoir Continuity of Asmari Reservoir Oils in the Cheshmeh-Khush Oilfield,SW Iran

A total of 6 oil samples were systematically selected from six Asmari Reservoir wells in the Cheshmeh-Khush Oilfield for geochemical evaluation of the hydrocarbon system,based on reservoir geochemistry and oil *** investigation of the distribution patterns of normal alkanes and tricyclic and tetracyclic terpanes along with characteristic biomarkers of the depositional environment and sedimentary facies,indicated that the source rock of the studied hydrocarbons was deposited in a reducing aquatic environment with a low input of terrigenous material and predominantly carbonate lithology derived from organic algal *** studied oil samples exhibited moderate maturity,as was further confirmed by the parameters extracted from the light *** clustering based on different biomarker parameters indicated the presence of two oil ***,the application of branched and cyclic compounds in the light hydrocarbons(C5–C11)to evaluate lateral continuity of the Asmari reservoir further supported the presence of the two oil *** evidence proved the presence of a NE–SW trending fault separating wells X5 and X6 from the other wells in the *** other wells across the field,good lateral reservoir continuity was observed,despite the presence of faults on the northern and southern plunges of the structure.
