There are differences in form between the people＇s mediation system and traditional folk mediation. However, in terms of its scope and basis, people＇s mediation has actually evolved from the traditional Chinese folk mediation system. In a changing world, grassroots farmers place demands on this form of mediation that provide it with a space for existence. At the same time, the system needs to make institutional adjustments in response to local *** the basis offieldwork in Southeastern Chongqing, this study analyzes the demand factors among farmers at the grassroots level from the point of view of social relations, economic capital and legal resources, Furthermore, taking the practice of the people＇s mediation system in Southeastern Chongqing--the ＂mediation courtyard＂--as an example, we analyze the application of local knowledge to people＇s mediation practice at the grassroots. Our study found that under the influence of emotional factors and livelihood rationality, the villagers demand that social relations be maintained. Since the people＇s mediation system aecommodates this demand, it has ample room for existence in the villages. On the other hand, people＇s mediation is a passive choice to which villagers are driven because of their lack of economic capital and legal resources. In response to the settlement features of mountainous areas and village social relations and systems of meaning, the people＇s mediation body took institutional measures to localize mediation （the mediation courtyard）, integrating the people＇s mediation system into the logic of village life; but it failed to respond to the problems caused by farmers＇ disadvantage in relation to economic capital and legal resources. On the basis of our research, we end with some reflections on a developmental path for national systems for the management of village society.

Schizolepis daohugouensis sp. nov. is described from the Jurassic sediments of Daohugou flora, from Ningcheng County, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, China. The female cone is slender, cylindrical in shape, seed scale complexes are loosely and helically arranged on the cone axis at intervals of 3-5 mm. The seed scales are bilobed and divided almost from the base; the scales have no evident petiole but an articulation at the region of attachment to the cone axis. Each lobe of the seed scales is oval in shape, widest at the lower middle part; lobes are obtusely pointed with entire margins. Bract scale is fan shaped. Based on the records of Schizolepis, this is the first report of the occurrence of female cone of Schizolepis with the seed scales, the winged seeds and vegetative branches preserved together in the Jurassic deposits. The new discovery provides evidence that confirms the phylogenetic position of Schizolepis to the extant Pinaceae.

Ethnicity is a carrier of language and *** distribution of ethnic diversity is fundamental for identifying and reconstructing the migration patterns and evolution histories of cultures and *** the Chinese 4th National Census (1990) data,we investigated the specific time geographical patterns of population and diversity of Chinese *** anticipated,results show that Chineseminorities are chiefly concentrated in dis-tant plateaus and mountains in the southwest,northwest and northeast of ***,population density centers of the 10 majorminorities are rather scattered,alternatively dominating at different parts of the *** study pro-vides a first comprehensive quantitative test on a prevailing notion of 'six plates and three corridors' on the empirical clustering patterns of Chinese *** are more consistent evidences supporting this notion in the north of China,with the central and southern regions showing more complex patterns,potentially transformed by processes such as migration,fragmentation,and *** results of this study suggest that a geographical ap-proach can provide heuristic and complementary information for better understanding of historical social processes.
