Objective To evaluate the usefulness of the thyroglobulin （Tg） level in adults as a nutritiona biomarker of iodine status and to identify the factors related to the serum Tg level. Methods A cross-sectional study was conducted in adult populations of areas differing in iodine nutrition from three provinces （Autonomous Region） in China. Serum levels of thyroid hormones and Tg as well as thyroid autoantibodies were measured. The thyroid volume and nodule were measured by ultrasound. A multivariate linear regression analysis was used to assess iodine intake and other indeterminate factors associated with the serum Tg level. Results A total of 573 adults were recruited for this study. The serum Tg levels differed significantly among the three groups （22.27 ~g/L, 9.73 pg/L and 15.77 pg/L in the excess, more-than-adequate, and deficient groups, respectively）. The results of multivariate linear regression analysis indicate that excess and deficient iodine intake, goiter, thyroid nodule, hypothyroidism are significantly related with higher Tg level, and TgAb positivity is significantly related with lower serum Tg. Conclusion The serum Tg level reflects abnormal thyroid function and is a sensitive functiona biomarker of iodine nutrition status.

Objective:To evaluate the detection of IgM and IgG antibodies to Orientia tsutsugamushi(O. tsutsugamushi) by rapid diagnostic test(RDT) and microimmunofluorescence assay(ml FA). Methods:RDT using a mixture of recombinant 56-kDa proteins of *** and mIFA assay were performed on 20 patients from Fujian and 13 patients from Yunnan Province,and 82 sera samples from healthy farmers in Anhui Province and Beijing City in *** of the RDT and mIFA assay was performed by using X test and the P level of <0.05 was considered to be ***:Among these 82 normal sera samples,the specificity of RDT was 100%for both IgM and IgG *** 33 samples from patients with scrub typhus,5 cases were positively detected earlier by RDT than by mIFA in IgM test,and 2 cases were positive in IgG *** of RDT were 93.9%and 90.9%for IgM and IgG,*** sensitivity of combination lest of IgM and IgG was 100%.Geometric mean titer diluted sera from confirmed cases by IFA and RDT assay were 1:37 vs.1:113(P<0.001) in IgM test and 1:99 vs.1:279 (P<0.05) in IgG ***:RDT is more sensitivite than mIFA in the early diagnosis of scrub typhus and it is particularly applicable in rural areas.

Objective Mycobacterium avium （M. avium） and Mycobacterium intracellulare （M. intracellulare） are the major causative agents of nontuberculous mycobacteria （NTM）-related pulmonary infections. However, little is known about the differences in drug susceptibility profiles between these two species. Methods A total of 393 NTM isolates were collected from Shanghai Pulmonary disease Hospital. Sequencing of partial genes was performed to identify the strains at species level. The minimum inhibitory concentration （MIC） was used to evaluate the drug susceptibility against 20 antimicrobial agents. Variable number of tandem repeat （VNTR） typing was conducted to genotype these two species. Results A total of 173 （44.0%） M. avium complex （MAC） isolates were identified, including 41 （10.4%） M. avium isolates and 132 （33.6%） M. intracellulare isolates. Clarithromycin and amikacin were the two most effective agents against MAC isolates. The Hunter-Gaston Discriminatory Index （HGDI） values for VNTR typing of M. avium and M. intracellulare isolates were 0.993 and 0.995, respectively. Levofloxacin resistance was more common among the unclustered strains than among the clustered strains of M. intracellulare. Conclusion M. intrecellulare was the most common NTM species in China. Clarithromycin and amikacin had high antimicrobial activities against MAC. VNTR typing of MAC isolates revealed a high discriminatory power. Levofloxacin resistance was associated with unclustered strains of M. intracellulare.

This study was designed to investigate the contribution of miRNA-122-binding site polymorphism at the IL-1A gene and its multiplicative interactions with hepatitis B virus （HBV） mutations in the risk of hepatocellular carcinoma （HCC）. A total of 1021 healthy controls, 302 HBV surface antigen （HBsAg） seroclearance subjects, and 2011 HBsAg-positive subjects （including 1021 HCC patients） were enrolled in this study. Quantitative PCR was used to genotype rs3783553. HBV mutations were determined by direct sequencing. Multivariate logistic regression analyses were performed to test the associations of rs3783553, mutations, and their interactions with the risk of HCC. No significant association was found between rs3783553 and the risk of HCC among healthy controls, HBsAg seroclearance subjects, HBsAg-positive subjects without HCC, and all controls. Additionally, rs3783553 was not significantly associated with chronic HBV infection, liver cirrhosis, HBV e antigen seroconversion, abnormal alanine aminotransferase, and high viral load （〉 10^4 copies/ml）. However, the TTCA insertion allele of rs3783553 was significantly associated with an increased frequency of HBV C7A mutation compared with homozygous TTCA deletion carriers [（del/ins ＋ ins/ins） vs. del/del, adjusted odds ratio （OR）= 1.48, 95% confidence interval （CI）= 1.09-2.02, P = 0.013]. Multiplicative interaction of rs3783553 with HBV preS deletion significantly reduced the risk of HCC in males, with an adjusted OR of 0.64 （95% CI = 0.42-0.98; P = 0.041） after age and HBV genotype were adjusted. Although rs3783553 did not significantly affect genetic susceptibility to HBV-related HCC, its variant allele may predispose the host to selecting HBV C7A mutation during evolution and significantly reduce the risk of HCC caused by HBV preS deletion. This study provides an insight into the complex host-virus interaction in HBV-induced hepatocarcinogenesis and is helpful in determining HBsAg-positive subjects who are likely to de
