Photocatalytic disinfection is an eco-friendly strategy for countering bacterial pollution in aquatic *** strategies have been devised to facilitate the generation of reactive oxygen species(ROS)within photocatalysts,ultimately leading to the eradication of ***,the significance of the physical morphology of photocatalysts in the context of sterilization is frequently obscured,and the progress in the development of physical-chemical synergistic sterilization photocatalysts has been relatively ***,graphitic carbon nitride(g-C_(3)N_(4))is chemically protonated to expose more sharp *** fluorescence and EIS results indicate that the protonation can accelerate photogenerated carrier separation and enhance ROS ***,the sharp edges on the protonated g-C_(3)N_(4)facilitate the physical disruption of cell walls for further promoting oxidative *** C_(3)N_(4)demonstrated superior bactericidal performance than that of pristine g-C_(3)N_(4),effectively eliminating Escherichia coli within 40 minutes under *** work highlights the significance of incorporating physical and chemical synergies in photocatalyst design to enhance the disinfection efficiency of photocatalysis.

Civil aviation is one of the industries facing the greatest challenge in reaching carbon neutrality by the middle of this century,and this sector also contributes to adverse impacts on the regional air quality and human *** exhibits the second highest air passenger turnover *** understanding of civil aviation emissionsmust be urgently enhanced,and themitigation potential should be *** this study,on the basis of real domestic flight information for 2019,we built a greenhouse gas and air pollution emission inventory for the civil aviation sector in China with the fuel flowmethod based on the cruise and other *** thoroughly analyzed emissions by region,aircraft and engine types,and aircraft age,based on which we designed four measures to evaluate the abatement *** found that the hydrocarbon(HC),CO,NO_(x),SO_(2),particulate matter(PM)and CO_(2)emissions in 2019 reached 79.9 kt(95%CI[51.6–114.5]),176.3 kt(95%CI[114.5–248.2]),304.2 kt(95%CI[203.4–420.7]),23.2 kt(95%CI[14.2–33.7]),1.0 kt(95%CI[0.61–1.44])and 87.0 Mt(95%CI[57.4–119.6]),*** cruise phase was the major emission phase,accounting for 67%-87%of the total pollutant *** four measures were jointly implemented,the HC,CO,NO_(x),SO_(2),PM and CO_(2)emissions could be reduced by 61%,54%,55%,45%,32%and 38%,*** lower-emission aircraft and switching travel modes could substantially reduce civil aviation emissions in China.

Smoke and NO_(x)emission characteristics of in-use construction machinery base on substantial field measurement:A case study in Beijing,China

To understand the smoke level and NO_(x)emission characteristics of in-use construction machinery in Beijing,we selected 905 construction machines in Beijing from August 2022 to April 2023 to monitor the emission level of smoke and NO_(x).The exhaust smoke level and excessive emission situation of different machinery types were identified,and their NO_(x)emission levels were monitored according to the free acceleration *** investigated the correlation of NO_(x)and smoke emission,and proposed suggestions for controlling pollution discharge from construction machinery in the *** results show that the exhaust smoke level was 0–2.62 m^(−1),followed a log-normal distribution(μ=-1.73,δ=1.09,R^(2)=0.99),with a 5.64%exceedance *** observed amongmachinery types,with low-power engine forklifts showing higher smoke *** NO_(x)emission range was 71–1516 ppm,followed a normal distribution(μ=565.54,δ=309.51,R^(2)=0.83).Differences among machinery types were relatively *** rated net power had the most significant impact on NO_(x)***,NO_(x)emissions from construction machinery need further ***,we found a weak negative correlation(p<0.05)between the emission level of smoke and NO_(x),that is the synergic emission reduction effect is poor,emphasizing the need for NO_(x)emission *** the future,the oversight in Beijing should prioritize phasing out ChinaⅠand ChinaⅡmachinery,and monitor emissions from highpower engine ChinaⅢmachinery.

The insensitive munitions compound nitroguanidine(NQ)is used by the *** to avoid unintended ***,NQ also represents an emerging contaminant whose environmental emissions can cause toxicity toward aquatic organisms,indicating the need for effective remediation ***,we investigated the feasibility of treating water contaminated with NQ in continuous-flow columns packed with zero-valent iron(ZVI)or iron sulfide(FeS).Initially,the impact of pH on NQ transformation by ZVI or FeS was evaluated in batch *** pseudo first-order rate constant for NQ transformation(k_(1,NQ))by ZVI was 8-10 times higher at pH 3.0 compared to pH 5.5 and 7.0,whereas similar k_(1,NQ)values were obtained for FeS at pH *** on these findings,the influent p H fed to the ZVIand Fe S-packed columns was adjusted to 3.0 and 5.5,*** reactors transformed NQ into nitrosoguanidine(Nso Q).Further transformation of Nso Q by ZVI produced aminoguanidine,guanidine,and cyanamide,whereas Nso Q transformation by Fe S produced guanidine,ammonium,and traces of *** outperformed Fe S as a reactive material to remove *** ZVI-packed column effectively removed NQ below detection even after 45 d of operation(490 pore volumes,PV).In contrast,NQ breakthrough(removal efficiency490 PV)suggest that the technology is a promising approach for NQ treatment in packed-bed reactors and in situ remediation.

Fenton and Fenton-like processes,which could produce highly reactive species to degrade organic contaminants,have been widely used in the field of wastewater ***,the chemistry of Fenton process including the nature of active oxidants,the complicated reactions involved,and the behind reason for its strongly pH-dependent performance,is the basis for the application of Fenton and Fenton-like processes in wastewater ***,the conflicting views still exist about the mechanism of the Fenton *** instance,reaching a unanimous consensus on the nature of active oxidants(hydroxyl radical or tetravalent iron)in this process remains *** review comprehensively examined the mechanism of the Fenton process including the debate on the nature of active oxidants,reactions involved in the Fenton process,and the behind reason for the pH-dependent degradation of contaminants in the Fenton ***,we summarized several strategies that promote the Fe(Ⅱ)/Fe(Ⅲ)cycle,reduce the competitive consumption of active oxidants by side reactions,and replace the Fenton reagent,thus improving the performance of the Fenton ***,advances for the future were proposed including the demand for the high-accuracy identification of active oxidants and taking advantages of the characteristic of target contaminants during the degradation of contaminants by the Fenton process.

Rainfall-induced wind erosion in soils stabilized with alkali-activated waste materials

This study evaluates the efficacy of sustainable erosion control using slag-based alkali-activated cement crusts under varying rainfall and wind conditions. The rainfall intensities ranged from 30 mm/h to 120 mm/h, with durations ranging from 15 min to 90 min, and crust slopes of ∼2° (gentle) and 30° (steep). Wind tunnel experiments were conducted at wind velocities of 14 m/s, 21 m/s, and 28 m/s to investigate post-rainfall wind erodibility, along with changes in crust strength and microstructure analysis. The findings show the development of hydrated cementitious phases in alkali-activated material, which form around and between the particles during the alkaline activation process. Alkali-activated cement crusts significantly reduced erosion caused by rainfall and subsequent wind by several orders of magnitude. At the highest rainfall intensity of 120 mm/h, rainfall erosion was measured to be 1654.81 kg/m2 for untreated samples and 0.89 kg/m2 for treated samples, demonstrating a substantial 99.95% reduction in erosion due to the treatment. Similarly, at the highest wind speed tested, wind erosion was 122.75 kg/m2 for untreated samples and 0.095 kg/m2 for treated samples, indicating a significant 99.92% reduction in erosion due to the formation of an alkali-activated cement crust on the soil surface. However, exposure of the samples to 120 mm/h rainfall for 90 min resulted in a 5.2-fold increase in wind erosion compared to pre-rainfall conditions. Similarly, penetrometer results indicated a 37%–54% reduction in post-rainfall surface strength.

This paper addresses the problem of a viscoelastic Euler-Bernoulli beam under the influence of a constant velocity moving mass and different types of *** types of boundary conditions are considered:pinned-pinned,fixed-pinned,fixed-free(or cantilever),and *** considered include lumped masses,dampers,and *** modal decomposition method is employed to derive the equation of motion of the beam,for which an analytical closed-form expression of the dynamic vibration response is *** proposed method enables the study of the effect of a single appendage or a combination of the three types of appendages on the non-dimensional dynamic response of the *** examples are presented to illustrate the effects of these appendages and compare them to the reference cases of a beam with no *** results demonstrate the importance of considering these parameters in the design of *** proposed method is compared to other techniques in the literature and found to be advantageous due to its direct *** method also offers a versatile tool for investigating various configurations,aiding in engineering design and structural analysis for which establishing a precise prediction of beam vibrations is crucial.

Mercury(Hg),especially methylmercury(MeHg),accumulation in rice grain due to rice paddy possessing conditions conducive to Hg methylation has led to human Hg exposure through consumption of rice-based daily *** addition to being a food staple,rice is widely used as a raw material to produce a vast variety of processed food *** is known about Hg levels in snacking rice-food products and potential Hg exposure from consumption of them,besides previous studies on infant rice *** to provide complementary information for a more complete assessment on Hg exposure risk originated from Hgcontaining rice,this study determined total Hg(THg)and MeHg levels in 195 rice-containing and rice-free processed food products covering all major types of snack foods marketed in China and the estimated daily intake(EDI)of dietary Hg from the consumption of these *** results clearly showed THg and MeHg contents in rice-containing foods were significantly higher than rice-free products,suggesting the transfer of Hg and MeHg from the rice to the end products,even after manufacturing ***,significant positive correlations were observed between THg,MeHg,or MeHg/THg ratio and rice content for samples containing multiple grains as ingredients,further indicating the deciding role of rice for Hg levels in the end food *** the EDI of THg and MeHg via ricebased food products were relatively low compared to the reference dose,it should be considered these snacking food products would contribute additive Hg intake outside of the daily regular meals.

Non-seismically designed(NSD)beam-column joints are susceptible to joint shear failure under seismic *** significant research is available on the seismic behavior of such joints of planar frames,the information on the seismic behavior of joints of space frames(3D joints)is *** 3D joints are subjected to bi-directional excitation,which results in an interaction between the shear strength obtained for the joint in the two orthogonal directions *** bi-directional seismic behavior of corner reinforced concrete(RC)joints is the focus of this ***,a detailed finite element(FE)model using the FE software Abaqus,is developed and validated using the test results from the *** validated modeling procedure is used to conduct a parametric study to investigate the influence of different parameters such as concrete strength,dimensions of main and transverse beams framing into the joint,presence or absence of a slab,axial load ratio and loading direction on the seismic behavior of *** subjecting the models to different combinations of loads on the beams along perpendicular directions,the interaction of the joint shear strength in two orthogonal directions is *** comparison of the interaction curves of the joints obtained from the numerical study with a quadratic(circular)interaction curve indicates that in a majority of cases,the quadratic interaction model can represent the strength interaction diagrams of RC beam to column connections with governing joint shear failure reasonably well.

Inspired by molecular catalysts,researchers developed atomically precise nitrogen-coordinated single or dual metal sites imbedded in graphitized carbon（M-N-C） to fully utilize metallic sites for *** catalysts performed remarkably well in the electrocatalytic oxygen reduction reaction（ORR） due to their distinct coordination and electrical structures,Nonetheless,their maximum efficacy in practical applications has yet to be *** agenda identifies tailoring the coordination environment,spin states,intersite distance,and metal-metal interaction as innovative approaches to regulate the ORR performance of these ***,it is necessary to undertake a precise assessment of these methodologies and the knowledge obtained to be implemented in the design of future M-N-C catalysts for ***,this review aims to analyze recent progress in M-N-C ORR catalysts,emphasizing their innovative engineering with aspects such as alteration in intersite distance,metal-metal interaction,coordination environment,and spin ***,we critically discuss how to logically monitor the atomic structure,local coordination,spin,and electronic states of M-N-C catalysts to modulate their ORR *** have also highlighted the challenges associated with M-N-C catalysts and proposed suggestions for their future design and fabrication.
