Optimal reactive power dispatch(ORPD)is a complex and non-linear problem,and is one of the sub-problems of optimal power flow(OPF)in a power *** is formulated as a single-objective problem to minimize the active power loss in a transmission *** this work,power from distributed generation(DG)is integrated into a conventional power system and the ORPD problem is solved to minimize transmission line power *** proves that the application of DG not only contributes to power loss minimization and improvement of system stability but also reduces energy consumption from the conventional sources.A recently proposed meta-heuristic algorithm known as the JAYA algorithm is applied to the standard IEEE 14,30,57 and 118 bus systems to solve the newly developed ORPD problem with the incorporation of *** simulation results prove the superiority of the JAYA algorithm over *** respective optimal values of DG power that should be injected into the four IEEE test systems to obtain the minimum transmission line power losses are also provided.

In this paper, a one-dimensional discharge model is employed to study multi-pulse phenomena in Ar dielectric barrier discharge （DBD） under atmospheric pressure. The finiteelement method is employed to solve the model. The influences of applied voltage amplitude and frequency as well as gas gap distance on the variation of multi discharge pulses are investigated and discussed. The simulation results show that, both the intensity of discharge current and the number of discharge pulses increase with the amplitude of applied voltage, and narrower gas gap is more favorable for the formation of multi pulses. It is revealed that Ar DBDs behave in glow discharge mode when the applied voltage and gas gap distance vary from 2 kV to 6 kV and from 1 mm to 3 mm, respectively. With the frequency decreasing from 250 Hz to 125 Hz, the intensity of discharge current weakens and the number of discharge pulses increases, and the discharges behave in the typical Townsend discharge mode.

This paper analyzes the fundamental frequency impedance presents a novel transmission line pilot protection scheme characteristic of a thyristor controlled series capacitor （TCSC） and based on fault component integrated impedance （FCII） calculated for a transmission line with TCSC and controllable shunt reactor （CSR）. The FCII is defined as the ratio of the sum of the fault component voltage phasors of a transmission line with TCSC and CSR to the sum of the fault component current phasors where all the phasors are determined at both line＇s terminals. It can be used to distinguish internal faults occurring on the line from external ones. If the fault is an external one the FCII reflects the line＇s capacitive impedance and has large value. If the fault is an internal one on the line the FCII reflects the impedance of the equivalent system and the line and is relatively small. The new pilot protection scheme can be easily set and has the fault phase selection ability and also it is not affected by the capacitive current and the fault transition resistance. It is not sensitive to compensation level and dynamics of TCSC and CSR. The effectiveness of the new scheme is validated against data obtained in ATP simulations and Northwest China 750 kV Project.

The homogeneous dielectric barrier discharge （DBD） in atmospheric air between two symmetric-columnar copper electrodes with epoxy plates as the dielectric barriers is generated using a us pulse high voltage power supply. The discharge characteristics are studied by measurement of its electrical discharge parameters and observation of its light emission phenom- ena, and the main discharge parameters of the homogenous DBD, such as discharge current and average discharge power, are calculated. Results show that the discharge generated is a homogeneous one with one larger single current pulse of about 2 #s duration appearing in each voltage pulse, and its light emission is radially homogeneous and covers the entire surface of the two elec- trodes. The influences of applied voltage amplitude, air gap distance and barrier thickness on the transition of discharge modes are studied. With the increase of air gap distance, the discharge will transit from homogeneous mode to filamentary mode. The higher the thickness of dielectric barriers, the larger the air gap distance for generating the homogeneous discharge mode. The average discharge power increases non-linearly with increasing applied voltage amplitude, and decreases non-linearly with the increase of air gap distance and barrier thickness. In order to generate stable and homogeneous DBD with high discharge power, thin barriers distance should be used, and higher applied voltage amplitude should be applied to small air gap.

Abstract-An analytic method is proposed to compute the price-reserve offer curve at the consumer level in hierarchical direct load *** convexification of the consumer reserve provision is examined,and the analytic expression of the optimal solution within each critical region is ***,based on multi-parametric programming,a combinatorial enumeration method in conjunction with efficient reduction and pruning strategy is proposed to compute the optimal response of consumers in the whole price *** tests along with an application example in the bi-level aggregator pricing problem demonstrate the merit of this method.

This paper describes the integration of a photovoltaic (PV) renewable energy source with a superconducting magnetic energy storage (SMES) system. The integrated system can improve the voltage stability of the utility grid and achieve power leveling. The control schemes employ model predictive control (MPC), which has gained significant attention in recent years because of its advantages such as fast response and simple implementation. The PV system provides maximum power at various irradiation levels using the incremental conductance technique (INC). The interfaced grid side converter of the SMES can control the grid voltage by regulating its injected reactive power to the grid, while the charge and discharge operation of the SMES coil can be managed by the system operator to inject/absorb active power to/from the grid to achieve the power leveling strategy. Simulation results based on MATLAB/Simulink® software prove the fast response of the system control objectives in tracking the setpoints at different loading scenarios and PV irradiance levels, while the SMES injects/absorbs active and reactive power to/from the grid during various events to improve the voltage response and achieve power leveling strategy.

Conic Optimal Energy Flow of Integrated Electricity and Natural Gas Systems

In this letter, we propose a market-based bi-level conic optimal energy flow (OEF) model of integrated electricity and natural gas systems (IENGSs). Conic alternating current optimal power flow (ACOPF) is formulated in the upper-level model, and the generation cost of natural gas fired generation units (NGFGUs) is calculated based on natural gas locational marginal prices (NG-LMPs). The market clearing process of natural gas system is modeled in the lower-level model. The bi-level model is then transferred into a mixed-integer second-order cone programming (MISOCP) problem. Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed conic OEF model.

With the increasing capacity of wind farm, HVDC technology has become a promising transmission scheme for long distance transportation of large-scale wind power. However oscillation caused by this system will have a great influence on the security and stability of power system operation. In this paper, the oscillation of a doubly-fed induction generator(DFIG)-based wind farm interfaced with line commutated converter(LCC) based HVDC is discussed. Low-frequency oscillation and subsynchronous oscillation(SSO) are studied since these two oscillations are the particularly concerned oscillations in the stability study of power system in recent years. The model of a DFIG-based wind farm interconnected with LCC-HVDC is developed. The impact of drive train model's structure and parameters on the oscillation characteristics is analyzed. Eigenvalue and participation factor analysis are used to identify the three main modes, which include controller mode, electromechanical mode, and shaft mode. The effects of DFIG controller's parameters, wind speed and operating conditions of HVDC on those modes are studied. Electromagnetic transient simulations are performed to verify the results of the eigenvalue analysis.

Single-ended Fault Detection Scheme Using Support Vector Machine for Multi-terminal Direct Current Systems Based on Modular Multilevel Converter

This paper proposes a single-ended fault detection scheme for long transmission lines using support vector machine(SVM)for multi-terminal direct current systems based on modular multilevel converter(MMC-MTDC).The scheme overcomes existing detection difficulties in the protection of long transmission lines resulting from high grounding resistance and attenuation,and also avoids the sophisticated process of threshold value *** high-frequency components in the measured voltage extracted by a wavelet transform and the amplitude of the zero-mode set of the positive-sequence voltage are the inputs to a trained *** output of the SVM determines the fault type.A model of a four-terminal DC power grid with overhead transmission lines is built in PSCAD/*** results of EMTDC confirm that the proposed scheme achieves 100%accuracy in detecting short-circuit faults with high resistance on long transmission *** proposed scheme eliminates mal-operation of DC circuit breakers when faced with power order changes or AC-side *** robustness and time delay are also assessed and shown to have no perceptible effect on the speed and accuracy of the detection scheme,thus ensuring its reliability and stability.
