Prognostic factors and clinical features of rhino-orbitalmucormycosis cases:an update for patient and visual survivals

AIM:to determine the frequency of patients’vision survival and prognostic factors and evaluate clinical features in rhino-orbital ***:Forty-three eyes of 43 patients followed up with orbital mucormycosis infections were included in the *** characteristics of the patients,symptoms at admission,ophthalmologic and non-ophthalmologic examination findings,clinical findings during follow-up,medical and surgical procedures,and complications were *** survival was determined by assessing the incidence of mortality,and vision survival was defined as achieving a final visual acuity of at least light ***:twenty-seven(62.8%)patients were male,and 16(37.2%)were *** the underlying disease status of the patients was examined,it was observed that all patients had an underlying disease and diabetes constituted the majority(65.2%).Periorbital swelling(69.8%)and ophthalmoplegia(53.5%)were the most common symptoms and findings at the admission of patients with mucormycosis *** disease resulted in death in 22(51.2%)*** presence of fever and shorter duration of antifungal therapy were associated with lower patient *** surgery was not found to be associated with the survival of the *** eye,loss of pupillary light reflex,and development of central retinal artery occlusion were associated with lower vision ***:this study presents one of the most extensive patient series in the literature on rhino-orbital *** the patients’symptoms at the time of admission and the clinical findings during the infection process will increase awareness about the disease.

experimental measurement and numerical modeling of deformation behavior of breast cancer cells passing through constricted microfluidic channels

During the multistep process of metastasis,cancer cells encounter various mechanical forces which make them deform *** accurate in-silico models,capable of simulating the interactions betwe.n.t.e mechanical forces and highly deformable cancer cells,can pave the way for the development of novel diagnostic and predictive methods for metastatic ***-network models of cancer cell,empowered by our recently proposed identification approach,promises a versatile numerical tool for developing experimentally validated models that can simulate complex interactions at cellular *** this numerical tool,we presented spring-network models of breast cancer cells that can accurately replicate the experimental data of deformation behavior of the cells flowing in a fluidic domain and passing narrow constrictions comparable to ***,using high-speed imaging,we experimentally studied the deformability of breast cancer cell lines with varying metastatic potential(MCF-7(less invasive),SKBR-3(medium-high invasive),and MDA-MB-231(highly invasive)in terms of their entry time to a constricted microfluidic *** observed that MDA-MB-231,that has the highest metastatic potential,is the most deformable cell among the ***,by focusing on this cell line,experimental measurements were expanded to two more constricted microchannel *** experimental deformability data in three constricted microchannel sizes for various cell sizes,enabled accurate identification of the unknown parameters of the spring-network model of the breast cancer cell line(MDA-MB-231).Our results show that the identifed parameters depend on the cell size,suggesting the need for a systematic procedure for identifying the size-dependent parameters of spring-network models of *** the numerical results show,the presented cell models can simulate the entry process of the cell into constricted channels with very good agreements with the measured experimen

Determining the surface fault-rupture hazard zone for the Pazarcık segment of the east Anatolian fault zone through comprehensive analysis of surface rupture from the February 6,2023,earthquake(Mw 7.7)

Following surface rupture observations in populated areas affected by the Kahramanmaraşearthquake(Mw 7.7)on February 6th,2023,along the Pazarcık segment of the east Anatolian Fault Zone(eAFZ),this study presents novel insights into physical criteria for delineating surface fault-rupture hazard zones(SRHZs)along ruptured strike-slip *** achieve this objective,three trench studies across the surface rupture were conducted on the Pazarcık segment of the eAFZ to collect field data,and earthquake recurrence intervals were interpreted using Bayesian statistics from previously conducted paleoseismological *** results of the proposed model indicate that the Pazarcık segment produced five significant surface-rupturing earthquakes in the last∼11 kyr:e1:11.13±1.74 kyr,e2:7.62±1.20 kyr,e3:5.34±1.05 kyr,e4:1.82±0.93 kyr,and e5:0.35±0.11 *** addition,the recurrence intervals of destructive earthquakes on the subject in question range from 0.6 kyr to 4.8 *** that the last significant earthquake occurred in 1513,the longest time since the most recent surface fault rupturing earthquake on this particular segment was 511 *** results indicate that,in terms of the theoretical recurrence interval of earthquakes that can create surface ruptures on the Pazarcık segment,the period in which the February 6,2023,earthquake occurred was within the end of the expected return *** a result,the potential for a devastating earthquake in the near future is not foreseen on the same ***,the SRHZ proposed for the Pazarcık section of Gölbaşıvillage was calculated as a 61-meter-wide offset on the fault lineament to reduce the negativities that may occur in the ruptured area in the *** is recommended to take into account this width in the settlement of this area and nearby areas.

transfer learning framework for multi-scale crack type classification with sparse microseismic networks

Rock fracture mechanisms can be inferred from moment tensors(Mt)inverted from microseismic ***,Mt can only be inverted for events whose waveforms are acquired across a network of *** is limiting for underground mines where the microseismic stations often lack azimuthal ***,there is a need for a method to invert fracture mechanisms using waveforms acquired by a sparse microseismic ***,we present a novel,multi-scale framework to classify whether a rock crack contracts or dilates based on a single *** framework consists of a deep learning model that is initially trained on 2400000+manually labelled field-scale seismic and microseismic waveforms acquired across 692 *** learning is then applied to fine-tune the model on 300000+Mt-labelled labscale acoustic emission waveforms from 39 individual experiments instrumented with different sensor layouts,loading,and rock types in *** optimal model achieves over 86%F-score on unseen waveforms at both the lab-and *** model outperforms existing empirical methods in classification of rock fracture mechanisms monitored by a sparse microseismic *** facilitates rapid assessment of,and early warning against,various rock engineering hazard such as induced earthquakes and rock bursts.

We present a novel approach for Stimulated Raman Scattering(SRS)spectroscopy in which a hyper spectral resolution and high-speed spectral acquisition are achieved by employing amplified offset-phase controlled fs-pulse *** investigate the method by solving the coupled non-linear Schrödinger equations and validate it by numerically characterizing SRS in molecular nitrogen as a model *** spectral resolution of the method is found to be determined by the inverse product of the number of pulses in the burst and the intraburst pulse *** SRS spectrum is obtained through a motion-free scanning of the offset phase that results in a sweep of the Raman-shift *** to high spectral resolution and fast motion-free scanning the technique is beneficial for a number SRS-based applications such as gas sensing and chemical analysis.
