Cell adhesion plays a key role in various aspects of biological and medical sciences. In this study, poly（N- isopropylacrylamide）（PNIPAM） was grafted on polystyrene surfaces using different solvents under UV radiation. Moreover, the relation between surface roughness and cell adhesion were evaluated by gravimetric, SEM, AFM, contact angle measurement and cellular analyses. The gravimetric analysis clearly indicated an increase in the grafting by adding 10% methanol to water. The study of surface topography by AFM images showed an increase in the surface roughness and as a result of which, a decrease in wettablity was observed. At 37 ~C, epithelial ceils were well attached and proliferated on the grafted surfaces, while these cells were spontaneously detached below 32 ℃ in the absence of any enzymes. Moreover, MTT assay and SEM images indicated good cell viability and an increase in cell adhesion caused by the roughness increase. The results of this study reveal the great potential of PNIPAM-grafted polystyrene for being used in the biomedical fields such as drug delivery systems, tissue engineering and cell separation.

This study discusses the welding properties for the components of an aluminum-alloy ultra-high vacuum chamber and beam position monitor （BPM）.The welding parameters include the modes of laser output （pulsed wave and continuous wave）,welding speed,shield gas flow,welding bead structure,and focusing *** results showed that the welding defect rate of the pulsed wave type was larger than that of the continuous wave *** crack in the welding bead reduced with decreasing welding *** fusion penetration of the welding bead was higher when the focusing distance was long enough to deepen into the welding *** morphology during the experimental process revealed the proper flow of shield *** adaptability design of the welding bead structure in the preceding processes had more effect on overall welding structure and morphology.

Invasive microwave coagulation (IMC) therapy is a newly developed method for the treatment of liver tumors. In this paper, the constant-power IMC therapy is discussed. Three-dimensional finite element analysis for “alternative” heating pattern and a large blood vessel bioheat model are performed. The objective is to study: (i) the effects of “alternative” heating pattern of invasive microwave antennas on reducing the peak temperature which can be up to 140°C. Therefore, “alternative” heating pattern can improve the security of IMC; (ii) modeling impact of large vessels on heat transfer of surrounding tissue and the formation of the coagulation lesion. Corresponding in vivo pig experiments are provided to compare with the simulation results. The results indicate that: (i) the “alternative” heating pattern was efficient in reducing the peak temperature and diminishing the dimension of “super hot” area; (ii) the heat loss due to the cooling of the large blood vessel is so great that attempting to compensate the cool area by thermal method is unfeasible, which explains why occluding the blood vessel is a practical approach to dealing with this problem during the invasive microwave coagulation therapy; (iii) the radius of effect of large vessels (R ev) was brought forward to provide theoretical basis for clinical practice.

The choroid plexus is a complex structure which hangs inside the ventricles of the brain and consists mainly of choroid plexus epithelial（CPE） cells surrounding fenestrated *** CPE cells not only form an anatomical barrier,called the blood-cerebrospinal fluid barrier（BCSFB）,but also present an active interface between blood and cerebrospinal fluid（CSF）.CPE cells perform indispensable functions for the development,maintenance and functioning of the ***,the primary role of the choroid plexus in the brain is to maintain homeostasis by secreting CSF which contains different molecules,such as nutrients,neurotrophins,and growth factors,as well as by clearing toxic and undesirable molecules from *** choroid plexus also acts as a selective entry gate for leukocytes into the *** findings have revealed distinct changes in CPE cells that are associated with aging and Alzheimer＇s *** this review,we review some recent findings that highlight the importance of the CPE-CSF system in Alzheimer＇s disease and we summarize the recent advances in the regeneration of brain tissue through use of CPE cells as a new therapeutic strategy.

Cancer treatment in the past few years has been transformed by a new kind of therapy that targets the immune system instead of the cancer itself to reinvigorate antitumor immunity with astonishing results. However, primary and acquired resistance to this type of treatment, namely immune checkpoint blockade(ICB), continue to counter treatment efficacy. In many cases, resistance has been attributed to defective or chronically enhanced interferon signaling and/or upregulation of alternative immune checkpoints,including T-cell immunoglobulin mucin-3(Tim-3) and its ligand galactin-9(Gal-9). In this article, we briefly describe the current knowledge of common checkpoint resistance mechanisms, focusing on the Tim-3/Gal-9 pathway as an alternative checkpoint that holds great promise as another target for ICB.

Photodynamic eradication of intratumoral microbiota with bacteria-targeted micelles overcomes gemcitabine resistance of pancreatic cancer

Increasing evidence suggests that intratumoral microbiota plays a pivotal role in tumor progression,immunosurveillance,metastasis,and ***,in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma,tumor-resident Gammaproteobacteria could transform the chemotherapeutic drug gemcitabine(Gem)into its inactive form,thus rendering chemotherapy ***,a strategy for selectively eradicating intratumoral bacteria was described for overcoming Gem resistance in a pancreatic cancer animal *** antimicrobial peptide was linked with photosensitizer through a poly(ethylene glycol)chain,which can self-assemble into micelles with a diameter of∼20 *** micelles could efficiently kill bacteria under light irradiation by inducing membrane depolarization,thereby inhibiting Gem *** a bacteria-resident pancreatic cancer animal model,the selective photodynamic eradication of intratumoral bacteria was demonstrated to efficiently reverse Gem *** research highlights antibacterial photodynamic therapy as a promising adjuvant strategy for cancer therapy by modulating intratumoral microbiota.

Oncohistones are histones with high-frequency point mutations that are associated with tumorigenesis. Although each histone variant is encoded by multiple genes, a single mutation in one allele of one gene seems to have a dominant effect over global histone H3 methylation level at the relevant amino acid residue. These oncohistones are highly tumor type specific. For example, H3K27M and H3G34V/R mutations occur only in pediatric brain cancers, whereas H3K36M and H3G34W/L have only been found in pediatric bone tumors. H1 mutations also seem to be exclusively linked to lymphomas. In this review, we discuss the occurrence, frequency and potential functional mechanisms of each oncohistone in tumorigenesis of its relevant cancer. We believe that further investigation into the mechanism regarding their tumor type specificity and cancer-related functions will shed new light on their application in cancer diagnosis and targeted therapy development.
