The microstructural architecture of remodeled bone in the peri-implant region of screw implants plays a vital role in the distribution of strain energy and implant *** present a study in which screw implants made from titanium,polyetheretherketone and biodegradable magnesium-gadolinium alloys were implanted into rat tibia and subjected to a push-out test four,eight and twelve weeks after *** were 4 mm in length and with an M2 *** loading experiment was accompanied by simultaneous three-dimensional imaging using synchrotron-radiation microcomputed tomography at 5μm *** deformation and strains were tracked by applying optical flow-based digital volume correlation to the recorded image *** stabilities measured for screws of biodegradable alloys were comparable to pins whereas non-degradable biomaterials experienced additional mechanical ***-implant bone morphology and strain transfer from the loaded implant site depended heavily on the biomaterial *** implants stimulated rapid callus formation displaying a consistent monomodal strain profile whereas the bone volume fraction in the vicinity of magnesium-gadolinium alloys exhibited a minimum close to the interface of the implant and less ordered strain *** in our data suggest that implant stability benefits from disparate bone morphological properties depending on the biomaterial *** leaves the choice of biomaterial as situational depending on local tissue properties.

Effect of Different Pretreatments to Post-space on Bonding Strength of Fiber Posts Luted with a Self-adhesive Resin Cement

The effects of different post-space pretreatments on the retentive force of fiber posts cemented with a self-adhesive resin cement were investigated. Twenty-eight single-canal premolars were obturated by Resilon using warm vertical compaction and treated with distilled water, 2.5% NaOCl, 17% EDTA and 2.5% NaOCI; or 17% EDTA, 2.5% NaOCI, and ultrasonic agitation （U/E/N treatment）. Subsequently, radicular dentin surfaces were observed under scanning electron microscopy （SEM）. RelyX Fiber Posts were cemented in the treated canals by using RelyX U100, and thin-slice push-out test and SEM observation of coronal and apical regions of the specimens were performed. Data were analyzed using two-way ANOVA and Tukey＇s HSD post- hoc tests, and the percentage of failure type was calculated. Ultrasonic/EDTA/NaOC1 irrigation showed the maximum effectiveness in removing the smear layer and debris on the dentin surface. The apical bond strength of the experimental groups was significantly higher than that of the control group （P〈 0.05）. Adhesive failure between cement and dentin was the most common mode of failure. No obvious RDIZ or resin tag was detected. Chemical irrigants facilitated the bonding of these fiber posts, and ultrasonic activation improved retention. Future studies should evaluate the effectiveness of irrigation on fiber post push-out strength in fatigue cycling condition.

Oblique Cutting Based Mechanical Model for Insertion Torque of Dental Implant

The insertion torque of a dental implant is an important indicator for the primary stability of dental ***,the preoperative prediction for the insertion torque is crucial to improve the success rate of implantation *** this present research,an alternative method for prediction of implant torque was ***,the mechanical model for the insertion torque was established based on an oblique cutting *** the proposed mechanical model,three factors,including bone quality,implant geometry and surgical methods were considered in terms of bone-quality coefficients,chip load and insertion speeds,***,the defined bone-quality coefficients for cancellous bone with the computed tomography(CT)value of 235–245,345–355 and 415–425 Hu were obtained by a series of insertion experiments of IS and ITI ***,the insertion experiments of DIO implants were carried out to verify the accuracy of developed *** predicted insertion torques calculated by the mechanical model were compared with those acquired by insertion experiments,with good agreement,the relative error being less than 15%.This method allows the insertion torque for different implant types to be quickly established and enhances prediction accuracy by considering the effects of implants’geometries and surgical methods.

Influence of acrylamide monomer addition to the acrylic denture-base resins on mechanical and physical properties

The aim of the study was to evaluate the effect of adding acrylamide monomer （AAm） on the characterization, flexural strength, flexural modulus and thermal degradation temperature of poly（methyl methacrylate）（PMMA） denture-base resins. Specimens （n= 10） were fabricated from a conventional heat-activated QC-20 （Qc-） and a microwave heat-activated Acron MC （Ac-） PMMA resins. Powder/ liquid ratio followed the manufacturer＇s instructions for the control groups （Qc-c and Ac-c） and for the copolymer groups, the resins were prepared with 5% （-5）, 10% （- 10）, 15% （- 15） and 20% （-20） acrylamide contents, according to the molecular weight ratio, respectively. The flexural strength and flexural modulus were measured by a three-point bending test. The data obtained were statistically analyzed by Kruskal-Wallis test （a=O.05） to determine significant differences between the groups, The chemical structures of the resins were characterized by the nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. Thermal stabilities were determined by thermogravimetric analysis （TGA） with a heating rate of 10 ~***-1 from 35 ~C to 600 ~C. Control groups from both acrylic resins showed the lowest flexural strength values. Qc-15 showed significant increase in the flexural strength when compared to Qc-c （P〈O.01）. Ac-10 and Ac-15 showed significance when compared to Ac-c （P〈O.01）. Acrylamide incorporation increased the elastic modulus in Qc-10, Qc-15 and Qc-20 when compared to Qc-c （P〈0.01）. Also significant increase was observed in Ac-10, Ac-15 and Ac-20 copolymer groups when compared to Ac-c （P〈0.01）. According to the 1H-nuclear magnetic resonance （NMR） results, acrylamide copolymerization was confirmed in the experimental groups. TGA results showed that the thermal stability of PMMA is increased by the insertion of AAm.

Enhancing the antibacterial properties of the currently used implant materials is a major concern of healthcare providers to minimize the impact of peri-implant infection and improve implant survival *** this study,titanium-copper sintered alloys(3 wt% and 5 wt%Cu) were developed for medical implant *** phase identification,microstructure,copper ions release,and wettability of these alloys were evaluated using X-ray diffraction(XRD),optical microscope(OM),scanning electron microscope(SEM),transmission electron microscope(TEM),energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscope(EDS),inductively coupled plasma spectroscope(ICP) and drop shape *** antibacterial activities of Ti-Cu alloys against Porphyromonas gingivalis and Streptococcus mutans were evaluated using inhibition zone assay,plate counting assay,live/dead fluorescent staining,SEM and reactive oxygen species(ROS) staining *** results demonstrated that Ti-Cu alloys are composed of α-Ti and Ti_(2)Cu phases that increased with increased Cu content of the ***-Cu alloys exhibited antibacterial activity against both bacteria species in a time-dependent *** antibacterial rates of Ti-3Cu and Ti-5Cu after72 h were 57% and 70% against Porphyromonas gingivalis and 63% and 78% against Streptococcus mutans,*** highest amount of Cu^(2+) released from these alloys was 0.3 mg·L^(-1) during the first 24 h,within the safe *** copper ions release and ROS production were suggested as the main antibacterial ***,Ti-Cu sintered alloys are promising materials for dental and orthopedic implants.

Evaluation of Fracture Resistance for Autopolymerizing Acrylic Resin Materials Reinforced with Glass Fiber Mesh, Metal Mesh and Metal Wire Materials: An in Vitro Study

Statement of problem: Many processes have been applied to improve the fracture resistance of acrylic resin dentures by reinforcing them. The maximum goal of any denture repair is to restore the main strength of the denture and to avoid further fracture. Purpose: This study investigated the ability of self-curing acrylic resin to be strength and deflection of repaired acrylic resin joints reinforced with various reinforcement materials to resist fracture. Material and methods: Transverse strength of polymethyl methacrylate acrylic resin reinforced with glass fiber mesh, metal mesh, and metal wire was evaluated with a 3-point load test on 40 intact specimens (n = 10 for control group) (n = 10 per each reinforcement material group). Fractured joint margins were rounded, a 4-mm gap was placed between them, and then they were repaired with autopolymerizing acrylic resin and retested. Results: Transverse strength for the polymethyl methacrylate acrylic resin samples has showed fracture at the side of sample rather than in the middle area of reinforcement materials and some other samples showed bending statue rather than fracture. Conclusion: Reinforcement with glass fiber mesh, metal mesh, and metal wire produced transverse strength in the side area of resin denture base material rather than in the middle of reinforcement area with bending samples rather than fracture response.

Study on repairing canine mandibular defect with porous Mg-Sr alloy combined with Mg-Sr alloy membrane

To discuss the feasibility of the application of porous Mg-Sr alloy combined with Mg-Sr alloy membrane in the repair of mandibular defects in *** second and third mandibular premolars on both sides were extracted from six *** model of mandible buccal fenestration bone defects were prepared after the sockets *** bone defects were randomly divided into groups A and B,then Mg-Sr alloy was implanted in bone defects of group A and covered by Mg-Sr alloy membrane while Mg-Sr alloy was implanted in bone defects of group B and covered by mineralized collagen *** defects observed on cone beam computed tomographic images and comparing the gray value of the two groups after 4,8 and 12 *** 12 weeks,the healing of bone defects were evaluated by gross observation,X-ray microscopes and histological observation of hard *** defects in each group were *** 8 and 12 weeks,the gray value of group A was higher than that of group B(P<0.05).At 12 weeks,the bone volume fraction of group A was higher than that of group B(P<0.05).The newly woven bone in group A is thick and arranged staggered,which was better than that of group *** Mg-Sr alloy combined with Mg-Sr alloy membrane could further promote the repair of mandibular defects,and obtain good osteogenic effect.

Tooth wear against ceramic crowns in posterior region: a systematic literature review

The objective of this systematic review was to assess tooth wear against ceramic crowns in posterior region in vitro and in vivo. An electronic PubMed search was conducted to identify studies on tooth wear against ceramic crowns in posterior region. The selected studies were analyzed in regard to type of crowns, natural antagonist, measuring protocol and outcome. From a yield of 1 000 titles, 43 articles were selected for full-text analysis; finally, no in vitro and only five in vivo studies met the inclusion criteria. As there is heterogeneity in design, used measuring method, ceramics and analysis-form, a meta-analysis was not possible. Results of these studies are very controversial which makes a scientifically valid comparison impossible. This review indicated that some all-ceramic crowns are as wear friendly as metal-ceramic crowns. Up to now, it has been impossible to associate tooth wear with any specific causal agent. The role of ceramic surface treatment that might be responsible for the changing in rate of tooth wear seems undetermined as yet through clinical trials. The literature reveals that studies on this topic are subject to a substantial amount of bias. Therefore, additional clinical studies, properly designed to diminish bias, are warranted.
