Diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging to predict response of hepatocellular carcinoma to chemoembolization

AIM: To investigate whether intra-procedural diffusion- weighted magnetic resonance imaging can predict response of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) during trans- catheter arterial chemoembolization (TACE). METHODS: Sixteen patients (15 male), aged 59 ±11 years (range: 42-81 years) underwent a total of 21 separate treatments for unresectable HCC in a hybrid magnetic resonance/interventional radiology suite. Ana- tomical imaging and diffusion-weighted imaging (b = 0, 500 s/mm2) were performed on a 1.5-T unit. Tumor enhancement and apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC, mm2/s) values were assessed immediately before and at 1 and 3 mo after TACE. We calculated the percent change (PC) in ADC values at all time points. We compared follow-up ADC values to baseline values using a paired t test (α = 0.05). RESULTS: The intra-procedural sensitivity, specificity, and positive and negative predictive values (%) for detecting a complete or partial 1-mo tumor response using ADC PC thresholds of ±5%, ±10%, and ±15% were 77, 67, 91, and 40; 54, 67, 88, and 25; and 46, 100, 100, and 30, respectively. There was no clear predictive value for the 3-mo follow-up. Compared to baseline, the immediate post-procedure and 1-mo mean ADC values both increased; the latter obtaining statistical significance (1.48 ± 0.29 mm2/s vs 1.65 ± 0.35 × 10-3 mm2/s, P 15% predicted 1-mo anatomical HCC response with the greatest accuracy, and can provide valuable feedback at the time of TACE.

Glass-based nanochannels have become powerful tools for chemi-cal and biological sensing due to their advantages of easy prepara-tion,flexible modification,and high ***,research on ion transport behaviors in glass-based nanochannels and their applications in nanofluidic iontronics has gradually become a focus,including various ion transport behaviors such as resistive-pulse,ion rectification,ionic current memory,*** this review,we summarize the progress of manufacturing methods for glass-based nanochannels and discuss several typical ion transport behaviors of glass-based nanochannels,as well as the main application scenarios of glass-based nanochannels in terms of biosensing,detection,and neuromorphic *** enormous assistance of artificial intel-ligence in the standardized manufacturing process of glass-based nanochannels was anticipated,and the potential development of glass-based nanochannels in achieving neuromorphic functions was expected.

Macrocyclic trichothecenes from Myrothecium verrucaria PA 57 and their cytotoxic activity

Four novel macrocyclic trichothecenes,termed mytoxins D-G(1-4),along with four known analogs(5-8),were isolated from the ethyl acetate extract of fermented rice inoculated with the fungus Myrothecium verrucaria *** compound features a tricyclic 12,13-epoxytrichothec-9-ene(EPT)***,mytoxin G(4)represents the first instance of a macrocyclic trichothecene incorporating a glucosyl unit within the trichothecene *** structures of the newly identified compounds were elucidated through comprehensive spectroscopic analysis combined with quantum chemical *** isolated compounds demonstrated cytotoxic activity against the cal27 and HCT116 cell lines,which are models for human oral squamous cell carcinoma and colorectal cancer,***,mytoxin D(1)and mytoxin F(3)exhibited pronounced cytotoxic effects against both cancer cell lines,with IC_(50)values ranging from 3 to 6 nmol·L^(-1).Moreover,compounds 1 and 3 were found to induce apoptosis in HCT116 cells by activating caspase-3.

OBJECTIVE： To assess the efficacy and safety of Re- duning injection for fever, rash, and ulcers in chil- dren with mild hand, foot, and mouth disease （HFMD）. METHODS： A stratified-block randomized, dou- ble-blind, parallel-controlled, and multicenter clini- cal trial was conducted with 360 patients in five hospitals across China： Quanzhou Children＇s Hospi- tal, Shijiazhuang No. 5 Hospital, Shanghai Public Health Centre, Hunan Provincial Children＇s Hospi- tal, and Kaifeng Children＇s Hospital. Patients were randomized into three groups with 120 in each. Group A was treated with Western medicine, group B with Reduning injection, a Chinese herbal medi- cine, and group C with both Reduning injection and Western medicine. Results were compared for treatment efficacy and safety on HFMD. The clinical outcomes were observed as follows： fever and on- set time of antifebrile effect （time to bring the body temperature down 〉0.5~C after medication）; cumu- lative time for fever recovery （body temperature re- covering to normal and lasting more than 24 h without medication）; cumulative time for rash dis- appearance （without new rashes or ulcers appear- ing and the original ones fading away）; and cumula- tive time for mouth ulcer disappearance. RESULTS： For the onset time of the antifebrile ef- fect, there was no statistical difference between groups A and B （P〉O.05） and groups B and C （P〉 0.05）. However, there was a statistical difference be- tween groups A and C （P〈0.05）, and the effect ingroup C was the best. For the cumulative time for rash disappearance, there was no statistical differ- ence between groups A and B （P〉0.05）. There were statistical differences between groups A and C, and groups B and C （P〈0.05）, and the effect in group C was the best. For the cumulative time for mouth ul- cers disappearance, there were no statistical differ- ences among the three groups （P〉0.05）. CONCLUSION： Reduning injection with Western medicine for symptomatic treatment is most effec- tive

Context: Cardiac arrests in adults are often due to ventricular fibrillation(VF) or pulseless ventricular tachycardia(VT), which are associated with better outcomes than asystole or pulseless electrical activity(PEA). Cardiac arrests in children are typically asystole or PEA. Objective: To test the hypothesis that children have relatively fewer in-hospital cardiac arrests associated with VF or pulseless VT compared with adults and, therefore, worse survival outcomes. Design, Setting, and Patients: A prospective observational study from a multicenter registry(National Registry of Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) of cardiac arrests in 253 US and Canadian hospitals between January 1, 2000, and March 30, 2004. A total of 36 902 adults(≥ 18 years) and 880 children(department, neonatal intensive care unit, and in the out-of-hospital setting were excluded. Main Outcome Measure: Survival to hospital discharge. Results: The rate of survival to hospital discharge following pulseless cardiac arrest was higher in children than adults(27% [236/880] vs 18% [6485/36 902]; adjusted odds ratio[OR], 2.29; 95% confidence interval[CI], 1.95- 2.68). Of these survivors, 65% (154/236) of children and 73% (4737/6485) of adults had good neurological outcome. The prevalence of VF or pulseless VT as the first documented pulseless rhythm was 14% (120/880) in children and 23% (8361/36 902) in adults(OR, 0.54; 95% CI, 0.44- 0.65; P<.001). The prevalence of asystole was 40% (350) in children and 35% (13 024) in adults(OR, 1.20; 95% CI, 1.10- 1.40; P=.006), whereas the prevalence of PEA was 24% (213) in children and 32% (11 963) in adults(OR, 0.67; 95% CI, 0.57- 0.78; P< .001). Objective: To analyze the effects of acupuncture on in vitro fertilization patients with unexplained ***: We retrospectively analyzed the charts of a total of 302 cycles performed in 273 patients attending Assisted Reproductive Technology(ART) Centre from August 2013 to August *** the study period,embryo transfer with acupuncture(Acupuncture group,46 cases) and without acupuncture(Control group,42 cases) were *** to embryo transfer,the following points were used in the acupuncture group: Neiguan(CX 6),Diji(SP 8),Taichong(Liv 3),Baihui(Gv 20),and Guilai(S 29).These sessions were carried out two times before and after embryo transfer in a single *** addition,auricular acupuncture was also performed at ear points,including ear point 55(Shenmen),ear point 58(Zhigong),ear point 22(Neifenmi)and ear point 34(Naodian).The biochemical pregnancy rate and clinical pregnancy rate after transplantation were compared between two ***: The clinical pregnancy rate in the acupuncture group was higher than that in the control group [60.9%(28/46) vs.33.3%(14/42),respectively,Pcally improved fertility results in women who underwent in vitro fertilization/intra-cytoplasm sperm injection for reproduction.

Aim:To investigate the effect of geranylgeranylacetone (GGA) on the progres-sion of atrophic gastritis in rats and its potential ***:Atrophicgastritis was induced in Sprague-Dawley rats with 0.1% ammonia solution,60%ethanol,and 20 mmol/L deoxycholic acid for 24 *** by theinduction of atrophic gastritis,200 mg/kg GGA was administered by oral gavagefor 8 weeks (weeks 17-24).The histological changes in gastric mucosa werequantitated by the index of inflammation,the gastric mucosal thickness,and theamount of glands of 1 mm horizontal length in *** heat shockprotein (HSP)70 levels and distribution were determined by immunoblotting andimmunohistochemistry in gastric ***:GGA alleviated the pathologi-cal progression of atrophic gastritis with inflammation relief (inflammation index:1.40 in the GGA group and 1.65 in the atrophic gastritis group) and glandularrestoration (mucosal thickness and quantity of glands:194.3 μm and 38.7 mm inthe GGA group;123.3 μm and 32.7 mm in the atrophic gastritis group;P<0.05).GGA significantly induced HSP70 synthesis (P<0.05).Moreover,quercetin,aninhibitor of HSP70 expression,aggravated the infiltration of inflammatory cellsand glandular loss in the ***:GGA prevented the progression ofatrophic gastritis in rats via the induction of HSP70 expression.
