Pulsed laser interference patterning of transition-metal carbides for stable alkaline water electrolysis kinetics

We investigated the role of metal atomization and solvent decomposition into reductive species and carbon clusters in the phase formation of transition-metal carbides(TMCs;namely,Co_(3)C,Fe_(3)C,TiC,and MoC)by pulsed laser ablation of Co,Fe,Ti,and Mo metals in *** interaction between carbon s-p-orbitals and metal d-orbitals causes a redistribution of valence structure through charge transfer,leading to the formation of surface defects as observed by X-ray photoelectron *** defects influence the evolved TMCs,making them effective for hydrogen and oxygen evolution reactions(HER and OER)in an alkaline ***_(3)C with more oxygen affinity promoted CoO(OH)intermediates,and the electrochemical surface oxidation to Co_(3)O_(4)was captured via in situ/operando electrochemical Raman probes,increasing the number of active sites for OER *** with more d-vacancies exhibits strong hydrogen binding,promoting HER kinetics,whereas Fe_(3)C and TiC with more defect states to trap charge carriers may hinder both OER and HER *** results show that the assembled membrane-less electrolyzer with Co_(3)C∥Co_(3)C and MoC∥MoC electrodes requires~2.01 and 1.99 V,respectively,to deliver a 10 mA cm−2 with excellent electrochemical and structural *** addition,the ascertained pulsed laser synthesis mechanism and unit-cell packing relations will open up sustainable pathways for obtaining highly stable electrocatalysts for electrolyzers.

Electrokinetic-mechanism of water and furfural oxidation on pulsed laser-interlaced Cu_(2)O and CoO on nickel foam

The electrocatalytic oxidation of biomass-derived furfural(FF)feedstocks into 2-furoic acid(FA)holds immense industrial potential in optics,cosmetics,polymers,and ***,we fabricated Co O/Ni O/nickel foam(NF)and Cu_(2)O/Ni O/NF electrodes via in situ pulsed laser irradiation in liquids(PLIL)for the bifunctional electrocatalysis of oxygen evolution reaction(OER)and furfural oxidation reaction(FOR),*** oxidation of NF surface to NiO and deposition of CoO and/or Cu_(2)O on NF during PLIL offer distinct advantages for enhancing both the OER and ***/NiO/NF electrocatalyst provides a consistently low overpotential of~359 m V(OER)at 10 m A/cm^(2),achieving the maximum FA yield(~16.37 m M)with 61.5%selectivity,79.5%carbon balance,and a remarkable Faradaic efficiency of~90.1%during 2 h of FOR at 1.43 V(*** hydrogen electrode).Mechanistic pathway via in situ electrochemical-Raman spectroscopy on CoO/NiO/NF reveals the involvement of phase transition intermediates(NiOOH and CoOOH)as surface-active centers during electrochemical *** carbonyl carbon in FF is attacked by hydroxyl groups to form unstable hydrates that subsequently undergo further oxidation to yield FA *** method holds promise for large-scale applications,enabling simultaneous production of renewable building materials and fuel.

Voluntary wheel running ameliorated the deleterious effects of high-fat diet on glucose metabolism,gut microbiota and microbial-associated metabolites

Exercise training is critical for the early prevention and treatment of obesity and diabetes ***,the mechanism with gut microbiota and fecal metabolites underlying the effects of voluntary wheel running on high-fat diet induced abnormal glucose metabolism has not been fully elaborated.C57BL/6 male mice were randomly assigned to 4 groups according to diets(fed with normal chow diet or high-fat diet)and running paradigm(housed in static cage or with voluntary running wheel).An integrative 16S rDNA sequencing and metabolites profiling was synchronously performed to characterize the effects of voluntary wheel running on gut microbiota and *** showed that voluntary wheel running prevented the detrimental effects of high-fat feeding on glucose metabolism 16S rDNA sequencing showed remarkable changes in Rikenella and Marvinbryantia *** profiling indicated multiple altered metabolites,which were enriched in secondary bile acid biosynthesis *** conclusion,our study indicated that voluntary wheel running significantly improved glucose metabolism and counteracted the deleterious effects of high-fat feeding on body weight and glucose *** further found that voluntary wheel running could integratively program gut microbiota composition and fecal metabolites changes,and may regulate muricholic acid metabolism and secondary bile acid biosynthesis in high-fat fed mice.

Molecular regulation of calcium-sensing receptor(CaSR)-mediated signaling

Calcium-sensing receptor(CaSR),a family C G-protein-coupled receptor,plays a crucial role in regulating calcium homeostasis by sensing small concentration changes of extracellular Ca^(2+),Mg^(2+),amino acids(e.g.,L-Trp and L-Phe),small peptides,anions(e.g.,HCO_(3)^(-)and PO_(4)^(3-)),and ***-mediated intracellular Ca^(2+)signaling regulates a diverse set of cellular processes including gene transcription,cell proliferation,differentiation,apoptosis,muscle contraction,and neuronal *** of CaSR with mutations results in diseases such as autosomal dominant hypocalcemia,familial hypocalciuric hypercalcemia,and neonatal severe *** also influences calciotropic disorders,such as osteoporosis,and noncalciotropic disorders,such as cancer,Alzheimer's disease,and pulmonary arterial *** study first reviews recent advances in biochemical and structural determination of the framework of CaSR and its interaction sites with natural ligands,as well as exogenous positive allosteric modulators and negative allosteric *** establishment of the first CaSR protein-protein interactome network revealed 94 novel players involved in protein processing in endoplasmic reticulum,trafficking,cell surface expression,endocytosis,degradation,and signaling *** roles of these proteins in Ca^(2+)-dependent cellular physiological processes and in CaSR-dependent cellular signaling provide new insights into the molecular basis of diseases caused by CaSR mutations and dysregulated CaSR activity caused by its protein interactors and facilitate the design of therapeutic agents that target CaSR and other family C G-protein-coupled receptors.

To the Editor:Current guidelines recommend that for patients with acute coronary syndrome(ACS)undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention(PCI),dual antiplatelet therapy(DAPT),preferably involving powerful P2Y_(12) receptor inhibitors,including ticagrelor or prasugrel,should be used for at least 12 months.^([1–3])However,there is a lack of relevant evidence regarding the feasibility of de-escalation treatment and specific DAPT treatment regimens for ACS patient populations with high ischemic risk.

Calcium influx into neurons triggers neuronal death during cerebral ischemia/reperfusion *** calcium channels are involved in cerebral ischemia/reperfusion ***3.2 channel is a main subtype of T-type calcium channels.T-type calcium channel blockers,such as pimozide and mibefradil,have been shown to prevent cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury-induced brain ***,the role of Cav3.2 channels in cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury remains ***,in vitro and in vivo models of cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury were established using middle cerebral artery occlusion in mice and high glucose hypoxia/reoxygenation exposure in primary hippocampal *** results showed that Cav3.2 expression was significantly upregulated in injured hippocampal tissue and primary hippocampal *** further established a Cav3.2 gene-knockout mouse model of cerebral ischemia/reperfusion ***3.2 knockout markedly reduced infarct volume and brain water content,and alleviated neurological dysfunction after cerebral ischemia/reperfusion ***,Cav3.2 knockout attenuated cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury-induced oxidative stress,inflammatory response,and neuronal *** the hippocampus of Cav3.2-knockout mice,calcineurin overexpression offset the beneficial effect of Cav3.2 knockout after cerebral ischemia/reperfusion *** findings suggest that the neuroprotective function of Cav3.2 knockout is mediated by calcineurin/nuclear factor of activated T cells 3 *** from this study suggest that Cav3.2 could be a promising target for treatment of cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury.

The overdiagnosis of prostate cancer(PCa)caused by nonspecific elevation serum prostate-specific antigen(PSA)and the overtreatment of indolent PCa have become a global problem that needs to be solved *** aimed to construct a prediction model and provide a risk stratification system to reduce unnecessary *** this retrospective study,clinical data of 1807 patients from three Chinese hospitals were *** final model was built using stepwise logistic regression *** apparent performance of the model was assessed by receiver operating characteristic curves,calibration plots,and decision curve ***,a risk stratification system of clinically significant prostate cancer(csPCa)was created,and diagnosis-free survival analyses were *** multivariable screening and evaluation of the diagnostic performances,a final diagnostic model comprised of the PSA density and Prostate Imaging-Reporting and Data System(PI-RADS)score was *** validation in the development cohort and two external cohorts showed excellent discrimination and ***,we created a risk stratification system using risk thresholds of 0.05 and 0.60 as the cut-off *** follow-up results indicated that the diagnosis-free survival rate for csPCa at 12 months and 24 months postoperatively was 99.7%and 99.4%,respectively,for patients with a risk threshold below O.05 after the initial negative prostate biopsy,which was significantly better than patients with higher *** diagnostic model and risk stratification system can achieve a personalized risk calculation of *** provides a standardized tool for Chinese patients and physicians when considering thenecessity of prostatebiopsy.

Utility of fluid inclusion paleo-temperature in petroleum system modelling:A case study from western offshore,India

The paleo-temperature(Th)data from fluid inclusions are utilized for thermal history modelling using PetroMod ***,bottom hole temperature(BHT)and vitrinite reflectance(Ro)measurements are widely used in petroleum system modelling(PSM)in the oil industry for calibration *** representing the minimum temperature of fluid entrapment estimated from fluid-inclusion study provides extra support to build the thermal models for *** inclusion parameters along with Rock-Eval pyrolysis analysis have been used to predict the maturity of oil in terms of API gravity as well as the maturity of source rocks *** exploratory wells RV-1(Mumbai Offshore Basin)and KK4C-A-1(Kerala-Konkan Offshore Basin),India were examined and the T_(h)from most of the fluid inclusions of wells RV-1 and KK4C-A-1 fell in the oil window range of 60e140℃suggesting thermal conditions favourable for oil generation in both of the wells.T_(h)of coeval aqueous inclusions along with the Hydrocarbon Fluid inclusions(HCFIs)was used to calibrate *** parameters show that source rocks of well RV-1 are mature and that of well KK4C-A-1 are *** sets of PSM are created in terms of generation and expulsion for the dry wells RV-1 and KK4C-A-1 and calibrated each well using fluid inclusion Th and *** the fluid inclusion analysis method,it is evident that hydrocarbon generation happened in both wells and the paleo-temperature indicates that the formations of both wells were subjected to temperatures in the oil window range,even though it was designated as dry wells in the present *** present study highlights the application of fluid inclusion paleo-temperature(Th)during calibration instead of commonly used *** could obtain desirable and accurate data output from PSM using T_(h) calibration.

Investigation of WZ Sge-type Dwarf Nova ASASSN-19oc: Optical Spectroscopy and Multicolor Light Curve Analysis

In this study,we present an investigation of the newly discovered dwarf nova ASASSN-19oc during its superoutburst on 2019 June *** carried out detailed UBVRcIc-photometric observations and also obtained a spectrum on day 7 of the outburst,which shows the presence of hydrogen absorption lines commonly found in dwarf nova *** of photometric data reveals the occurrence of early superhumps in the initial days of observations,followed by ordinary and late *** have accurately calculated the period of the ordinary superhumps as Pord=0.05681（10） days and determined the periods at different stages,as well as the rate of change of the superhump period (Pdot=（5）P/P=8.1×10-5).Additionally,we have derived the mass ratio of the components （q=0.09）,and estimated the color temperature during the outburst as～11,000 K,the distance to the system （d=560 pc） and absolute magnitude of the system in outburst （MV=5.3）.We have shown that outbursts of this star are very rare:based on brightness measurements on 600 archival photographic plates,we found only one outburst that occurred in *** fact,as well as the properties listed above,convincingly shows that the variable ASASSN-19oc is a dwarf nova of WZ Sge type.
