An investigation of the visual features of urban street vitality using a convolutional neural network

As a well-known urban landscape concept to describe urban space quality,urban street vitality is a subjective human perception of the urban environment but difficult to evaluate directly from the physical *** study utilized a modern machine learning computer vision algorithm in the urban build environment to simulate the process,which starts with the visual perception of the urban street landscape and ends with the human reaction to street *** analyzing the optimized trained model,we tried to identify urban street vitality’s visual features and evaluate their importance.A region around the Mochou Lake in Nanjing,China,was set as our study *** investigators surveyed the area,recorded their evaluation score on each site’s vitality level with a corresponding picture taken on site.A total of 370 pictures and recorded score pairs from 231 valid survey sites were used to train a convolutional neural *** optimization,a deep neural network model with 43 layers,including 11 convolutional ones,was *** maps were then used to identify the features which lead to high vitality score *** spatial distributions of different types of feature entities were also analyzed to help identify the spatial *** study found that visual features,including human,construction site,shop front,and roadside/walking pavement,are vital ones that correspond to the vitality of the urban *** consistency of these critical features with traditional urban vitality features indicates the model had learned useful knowledge from the training *** the trained model in urban planning practices can help to improve the city environment for better attraction of residents’activities and communications.

This study explores how recent design.guidelines have focused on the visual variety of streetscapes making them more *** date,this topic has been one of the most challenging parts of constructing walkable *** evaluated the streetscape features of Sejong City,recently constructed as Republic of Korea’s new capital city,and investigated their relationships with design.***,we identified three principal reasons related to the design.guidelines for the visual monotony in the street produced by the most up-to-date design.guidelines compared with an ordinary ***,the design.guidelines cannot restrict the construction of large-scale buildings on the street,hindering visual changes caused by the zoning ordinance regulations because zoning regulations took priority when it comes to urban planning and regulatory ***,design.standards intending for a consistent street wall of buildings,which were used only in regard to the street enclosure standard,produced less spatial diversity and indistinct building bases,presenting weak vertical ***,applying the uniform standards for each building created repetitive architecture despite design.standards for visual variety,such as recessed top floors,arcades,and retail uses for the ground floors facing a street.

Both "Healthy China" and "Healthy Shanghai" programs require construction and development of community public health services. Taking Jinshan District in Shanghai as a case study, this paper evaluates the status quo of community health services from the "demand-supply" perspective, and finds a remarkable difference in the needs among different age groups, a big gap between urban and rural areas in the coverage degree of facilities, and different challenges for public service at the "prevention – treatment – health care" stages. It further puts forward several planning strategies involving(1) specific service supply based on different age groups,(2) "15-minute health service cycles" in both urban and rural communities,(3) adjustment of facilities to local conditions, and(4) promoting the quality of health services. Furthermore, it discusses in-depth issues underlying planning policies, such as the innovation of service content, the integration of different plans, and the cultivation of health service needs.

The reliability and deterministic analyses of wood-cored stiffened deep cement mixing and deep cement mixing column-supported embankments(referred to as WSCSE and DCSE,respectively)considering serviceability limit state requirements are presented in this *** field theory was used to simulate the spatial variability of soilcement mixing(SCM)material in which the adaptive Kriging Monte Carlo simulation was adopted to estimate the failure probability of a columnsupported embankment(CSE)system.A new method for stochastically generating random values of unconfined compressive strength(qu)and the ratio(Ru)between the undrained elastic modulus and qu of SCM material based on statistical correlation data is *** performance of CSEs concerning changes in the mean(μ),coefficient of variation(CoV),and vertical spatial correlation length(θv)of qu and Ru are presented and *** obtained results indicate that WSCSE can provide a significantly higher reliability level and can tolerate more SCM material spatial variability than *** performance of DCSE and WSCSE,which can be considered satisfactory in a deterministic framework,cannot guarantee an acceptable reliability level from a probabilistic *** highlights the importance and necessity of employing reliability analyses for the design.of ***,consideration of only μ and CoV of qu seems to be sufficient for reliability analysis of WSCSE while for DCSE,uncertainties regarding the Ru(*** μ and CoV)and θv of qu cannot be ignored.

Numerous metropolises worldwide have adopted transit-oriented development(TOD)as a sustainable urban development *** the node-place model is the most commonly used model for TOD ***,the spatial vitality,one of the most fundamental aspects of TOD,has not been systematically taken into account in the node-place ***,this article introduces vitality as a third dimension into node-place model and develops the node-place-vitality(NPV)model,aiming to comprehensively re-classify and re-evaluate TOD *** independent weight coefficient method is used to compute place values,node values,vitality values,and overall TOD ***,the categorization of TOD typologies makes use of the K-means++clustering *** model is employed in a case study in Wuhan,*** results show that the TOD degree exhibits a spatial discrepancy,characterized as“high-medium-low”from the center to the periphery,not only in the whole city but also in the three *** geographical characteristics of TOD degree within station catchment area are revealed by the heat *** TOD types are identified and they present obvious spatial *** approach proposed in this paper furnishes urban planners and decision-makers with a scientific instrument for assisting TOD planning and strategies design.ng.

Road network is a critical component of public infrastructure,and the supporting system of social and economic *** on a modified kernel density estimate(KDE)algorithm,this study evaluated the road service capacity provided by a road network composed of multi-level roads(***,provincial,county and rural roads),by taking account of the differences of effect extent and intensity for roads of different *** at town scale,the population burden and the annual rural economic income of unit road service capacity were used as the surrogates of social and economic demands for road *** method was applied to the road network of the Three Parallel River Region,the northwestern Yunnan Province,China to evaluate the development of road network in this *** results,the total road length of this region in 2005 was 3.70×104km,and the length ratio between national,provincial,county and rural roads was 1∶2∶8∶*** 1989 to 2005,the regional road service capacity increased by 13.1%,of which the contributions from the national,provincial,county and rural roads were 11.1%,19.4%,22.6%,and 67.8%,respectively,revealing the effect of′All Village Accessible′policy of road development in the mountainous regions in the last *** spatial patterns of population burden and economic requirement of unit road service suggested that the areas farther away from the national and provincial roads have higher road development priority(RDP).Based on the modified KDE model and the framework of RDP evaluation,this study provided a useful approach for developing an optimal plan of road development at regional scale.

China's spatial planning system has a tradition of prioritizing vertical control over horizontal coordination, which leads to conflicts among various plans for one area. This has brought many problems to the spatial management of Chinese cities. Since socio-economic development plan, urban-rural plan, and land use plan are the three major elements of China's spatial planning system, conflicts among them can be taken as an intensified case of the system's problems, and the practice of three-plan integration should focus on bridging the gaps and solving conflicts among them, so as to eventually eliminate predicaments to China's spatial planning. Currently, due to influences of the actual law and governance systems, threeplan integration is largely a sort of government-led planning coordination dedicated to urban-rural spatial development. In the context of China's constantly deepened political and economic system reforms, three-plan integration, together with the extended multi-plan integration, will surely play an important role in the construction and exploration of China's spatial planning system.

Manipulating Airy beams to symmetric Airy beams(SABs)with abruptly autofocusing and self accelerating properties has attracted much *** such a particular propagation dynamic,SABs may provide great potential in dynamic signal *** the other hand,the generation of SABs by spatial light modulators suffers from the limitations of phase gradient accuracy,low optical efficiency(design.d and fabricated for generating SAB/*** SCPP/ACPP demonstrates superior performance:compact construction(60μm × 60μm × 1.1μm),continuous variation of phase,high efficiency(~81%at 532 nm),and broadband operation from 405 to 780 *** imaging under monochromatic and polychromatic lights is realized by the SAB/AAB,indicating various results at different propagation distances with a certain initial *** investigation reveals that the SCPP on a soft substrate maintains its physical dimensions and optical properties unchanged during *** work enables wide potential applications in integrated optics,beam manipulation,and imaging.
