The reported prevalence of autism spectrum disorder（ASD） has been increasing rapidly in many parts of the world. However, data on its prevalence in China are largely missing. Here, we assessed the suitability of the modi？ed Chinese version of a newly-developed ASD screening tool, the Modi？ed Chinese Autism Spectrum Rating Scales（MC-ASRS） in screening for ASD in Chi nese children aged 6–12 years, through comparison with the Social Responsiveness Scale（SRS） that has been widely used for ASD screening. We recruited the par ents/caregivers of 1588 typically-developing children and190 children with ASD aged 6–12 years to complete the MC-ASRS and SRS, and evaluated the validity of both scales in discriminating children with ASD from those developing typically. The results showed that MC-ASRSperformed as well as SRS in sensitivity, speci？city, and area-under-the-curve（both [0.95） in receiver operating characteristic analysis, with a fair false-negative *** results suggest that MC-ASRS is a promising tool for screening for children with ASD in the general Chinese population.

Risk of venous thromboembolism in children and adolescents with inflammatory bowel disease: A systematic review and meta-analysis

BACKGROUND A two-to three-fold increased risk of venous thrombotic events(VTE) has been demonstrated in patients with inflammatory bowel disease(IBD) compared to the general population, but less is known about the risk of VTE in child-and pediatric-onset IBD. In recent years, several studies have reported the rising incidence rate of VTE in juvenile patients with IBD, and the related risk factors have been *** To evaluate the risk of VTE in children and adolescents with *** Articles published up to April 2021 were retrieved from Pub Med, Embase, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, Sino Med, CNKI, and WANFANG. Data from observational studies and clinical work were extracted. The outcome was the occurrence of VTE according to the type of IBD. The available odds ratio(OR) and the corresponding 95% confidence interval(CI) were extracted to compare the outcomes. Effect size(P), odds ratio(OR), and 95%CI were used to assess the association between VTE risk and IBD disease. Subgroup analyses stratified by subtypes of VTE and IBD were *** Twelve studies(7450272 IBD patients) were included in the meta-analysis. child and adolescent IBD patients showed increased VTE risk(P = 0.02, 95%CI: 0.01-0.03). Population aging has developed into a significant area of concern in developed countries, especially in relation to thepreservation of functional independence and the quality of life (QoL). However, information on the contribution ofsex differences in quality of life and cognitive function is scarce. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate potentialdifferences in cognitive function and QoL between males and females. For this study, we recruited 382 healthy subjectsaged 19–79 years from communities in Southern Taiwan region,China. Cognitive function and QoL were assessed using the UCSD Performance-based Skills Assessment, Brief Version (UPSA-B) and World Health Organization Quality ofLife Instruments (WHOQOL-BREF), respectively. The effects of sex, age groups, and interaction of sex and ageon the UPSA-B and WHOQOL-BREF scores were examined. We found that the financial and communicationdomains of the UPSA-B showed declining trends with age in both sexes, although these trends were more obviousin females than in males. In the domain of Physical Capacity, QoL showed an age-increased trend in males, whileQoL in the Environment domain showed an age-increased trend in females. Regarding the relationships betweencognitive function and QoL, we found that the financial skill and communication skill of UPSA-B was positivelycorrelated to the psychological well-being domain of WHOQOL-BREF, in males of age <40 years. In conclusion,our findings demonstrate differential relationships between cognitive function and QoL between males and females,which could serve as a basis for further study between cognitive function and quality of life in communities.
