Difference of the gut microbiota of premature ovarian insufficiency in two traditional chinese syndromes

PURPOSE: To investigate the differences in gut microbial characteristics between two traditional chinese syndromes of premature ovarian insufficiency(POI). METHODS: Forty women with POI were recruited from the department of Traditional chinese Medicine at Shenzhen Maternity and Child Healthcare Hospital between June and December 2020. Women with POI were divided into the kidney deficiency and blood stasis syndrome(SDBS) and Qi and blood deficiency syndrome(QBDS) groups. Gut microbial community profiles were analyzed by 16S rRNA gene sequencing using an Illumina Mi Seq system. A retrospective study comparing hormone levels and gut microbiota information was performed between the SDBS and QBDS groups. RESULTS: Compared with the QBDS group, the serum levels of estradiol(E2) and anti-Müllerian hormone(AMH) were significantly decreased in the SDBS group. The quantities of Adlercreutzia, Eggerthella, Klebsiella, and Paraprevotella significantly increased in the SDBS group, whereas Lactobacillus decreased significantly. Moreover, alterations in the microbiome in the SDBS and QBDS groups were closely related to the levels of E2 and AMH. The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve for the classification of the two syndromes by the gut microbiome was 0.71. CONCLUSIONS: There were significant differences in the dominant microbiota between the SDBS and QBDS groups, and the change in Proteobacteria in the QBDS group was more significant. The characteristics of gut microbiota help us differentiate between the SDBS and QBDS groups, which may provide a basis for the objectification of TCM syndrome types.

Different acupuncture Therapies for Postherpetic Neuralgia:An Overview of Systematic Reviews and Meta-analysis

Background: Postherpetic neuralgia(PHN) is the most common complication of herpes zoster infection and affects patients' quality of life. acupuncture therapy is regarded as a competitive method of treatment for analgesia. Objective: To summarize evidence from systematic reviews(SRs) and evaluate the effectiveness and safety of different acupuncture therapies for treating PHN. Methods: Eight electronic databases were searched from their inception to August 5, 2022, including 4 international electronic databases(PubMed, EMBASE, the Cochrane Library, and Web of Science) and 4 chinese databases(chinese Biomedical Database, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, VIP Database and Wanfang Database).Methodological quality was assessed by A Measurement Tool to Assess Systematic Reviews 2(AMSTAR 2).The Risk of Bias in Systematic Review(ROBIS) tool was used to assess the risk of bias in SRs. Evidence level was assessed by the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development, and Evaluation(GRADE)approach. Results: Totally, 7 SRs were included, including 128 studies and 9,792 patients. In AMSTAR 2, most of the SRs were of low or critically low levels since they had more than 1 critical deficiency. In ROBIS, 1 SR(14.29%)was rated as high risk, and the other 6(85.71%) were rated as low risk. In the GRADE system, 9 outcomes(28.13%)were valued as high level, 5(15.63%) as moderate level, 1(3.13%) as low, and 17(53.13%) as very low. Electroacupuncture alleviates zymosan-induced colorectal hypersensitivity

OBJECTIVE: this study to investigate the mechanism underlying the electroacupuncture(EA) alleviates colorectal hypersensitivity, a feature of irritable bowel syndrome(IBS). METHODS: The colorectal hypersensitivity model was established by treating mice with zymosan. Electrophysiological techniques, Western blotting and immunofluorescence staining were used to detect the changes of the sensitive state of the colorectum and the response in spinal ganglion and spinal cord after acupuncture intervention. RESULTS: colorectal distension studies revealed that repetitive applied electroacupuncture treatment on mice could significant alleviates colorectal intensity. Western blotting studies with nerve growth factor(NGF) in the colorectum, substance P(SP) in the spinal ganglion, protein kinase C gamma(PKCγ) in the spinal cord, and transient receptor potential vanilloid 1(TRPV1) showed that electroacupuncture suppressed zymosan-induced expression of TRPV1, NGF and SP in multiple tissues. Immunofluorescence labeling results showed that EA attenuated the expression of NGF in the colorectum, SP in the spinal ganglion, PKCγ in the spinal cord, and TRPV1 in all three tissues in zymosan-treated mice. Moreover, the number of neurons double-positive for TRPV1/Isolectin B4(IB4) and TRPV1/Neurofilament(NF) 200 was increased in the spinal ganglion. CONCLUSION: these results provide molecular-level evidence that EA alleviates zymosan-induced colorectal hypersensitivity by altering the expression of pain-associated proteins in the colorectum and spinal cord. EA has a potential to be therapeutic intervention option for IBS treatment.

Effects of acupuncture combined with bone-setting therapy to treat tourette syndrome:a three-arm randomized controlled trial

OBJECTIVE: To explore the efficacy and safety of acupuncture combined with atlantoaxial joint bone-setting therapy for the treatment of Tourette syndrome. METHODS: We randomly divided 600 patients at a ratio of 1∶1∶1 into three groups: group A(acupuncture combined with atlantoaxial joint bone setting therapy group), group B(acupuncture group), and group C(tiapride group). After two months of treatment, the Yale global tic severity scale(YGTSS) score reduction, improvement in social function impairment, clinical efficacy, and long-term efficacy in the three groups were compared. RESULTS: After treatment, in the analysis of YGTSS score reduction, social function impairment improvement, the clinical control rate, and long-term efficacy, the results were all Group A > Group B > Group C, with a statistically significant difference(P acupuncture combined with atlantoaxial joint bone setting therapy has better clinical and long-term efficacy. This treatment strategy can improve the social function of children and prevent adverse reactions to drugs.

Electroacupuncture stimulation of auricular concha region improves loss of control over stress induced depression-like behavior by modulating 5-hydroxytryptamine 1A receptor

OBJECTIVE: To observe whether electroacupuncture stimulation of auricular concha region （EA-ACR） on behavior changes of depression by loss of control over stress model （LOC）， and whether its effect is improved by regulating the expression levels of hydroxytryptamine （serotonin， 5-HT） 1A receptor (5-HT1AR)/hydroxytryptamine （serotonin， 5-HT） 2A receptor (5-HT1AR) in ***: LOC was prepared using a Skinner box， and EA-ACR to observe behavioral changes， and Western Blot was used to detect the changes of 5-HT1AR/5-HT2AR in the hippocampus， and then observe the changes of EA-ACR behavior after microinjection of 5-HT1AR/5-HT2AR antagonist into the hippocampus. RESULTS: EA-ACR improve depressive-like behavior， up-regulated 5-HT1AR expression and down-regulated 5-HT2AR expression in hippocampal brain area. EA-ACR did not improve depression-like behavior after hippocampal microinjection of 5-HT1AR antagonist， while injection of 5-HT2AR antagonists can improve depression-like behaviors. CONCLUSION: EA-ACR can improve depressive-like behaviors. Loss of control over stress leads to up-regulation of 5-HT1AR and down-regulation of 5-HT2AR in the hippocampus， while EA-ACR mainly improves depressive behavior by regulating 5-HT1AR in Hip.
