Investigations of corrosion inhibition of ethanolic extract of Dillenia suffruticosa leaves as a green corrosion inhibitor of mild steel in hydrochloric acid medium

The utilization of plant extracts as environmentally friendly corrosion inhibitors has garnered considerable interest in the field of metallic corrosion protection. The primary objective of this study was to explore a new approach for utilizing Dillenia suffruticosa leaves extract(DSLE) to provide corrosion protection for mild steel(MS) in a molar hydrochloric acid solution. The phytocompounds responsible for corrosion prevention were extracted using ethanol with Soxhlet apparatus. The effectiveness of the extract as a corrosion inhibitor was evaluated through gravimetric and electrochemical methods, along with surface analysis of the corroded steel samples. This analysis involved the use of scanning electron microscopy(SEM) and Fourier-transformed infrared spectroscopy(FTIR) to examine the specimens with and without addition of the extract as inhibitor. The findings demonstrate that DSLE exhibits notable efficacy as a corrosion inhibitor for MS in an acidic environment. The inhibition efficiency(IE)demonstrates a positive correlation with the concentration of the extract, ultimately reaching a maximum value of 81.4 % at the optimum concentration of 1000 mg/L of the extract investigated. Potentiodynamic polarization data revealed that the DSLE functions as a mixed-type inhibitor.

Demythologizing Politicized Myths： A New Interpretation of the Seven Gentlemen Incident

This article investigates a political event in modern China that has received relatively little attention in the West. The Seven Gentlemen Incident occurred in the midst of the national crisis of Japanese aggression, when an independent patriotic movement led by seven Shanghai intellectuals organized the National Salvation Association and urged Chiang Kai-shek to fight the Japanese invaders. The Chiang regime, however, arrested the seven and accused them of plotting to overthrow the government. They were released only after Japan launched a full-scale attack on China in July 1937. Scholars have offered varying images of the incident. While the Seven Gentlemen were denounced as criminals by the Nationalists in Chinese Taiwan, they were respected as national heroes in Chinese mainland. Myths with conflicting viewpoints have been created. What were the life and career backgrounds of these people？ Were they petty-bourgeoisie, as some mainlanders assume？ Were the seven figures, as mainland Chinese claim, motivated under communist leadership to organize their association？ What were their relations with the Nationalist regime and the Communist Party？ This article endeavors to answer these questions based on new primary documents in particular archival material and offers new perspectives on this fascinating episode of modern China.

Exploring Chemovar-Specific Cannabis Extracts Quantification and Evaluation of Cytotoxic Compounds for Targeting Glioblastoma Multiforme

Glioblastoma Multiforme (GBM) represents one of the most aggressive and metastatic brain tumors, with a dismal success rate of less than three percent after five years, particularly in tumors with active immune checkpoints. This necessitates the development of targeted endogenous agents for precise GBM treatment. Previous experiments utilizing Chemovar Specific Cannabis Extractions (csces), fractionated with polar solvents and quantified using Liquid and Gas Column Chromatography combined with Mass Spectrometry (LC/GCMS), have shown reduced viability and motility in human GBM cell lines. However, the complexity of the botanical substance has hindered the personalization of standard cannabis medicines for GBM due to unknown synergistic effects of multiple compounds. To address this limitation, our study focuses on exposing AM251 cells to chemovar fractions extracted using a non-polar solvent, thereby isolating a broader spectrum of constituents. By employing LC/GCMS in conjunction with Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR), we have identified and quantified nine* compounds present in the non-polar csce that exhibit significant efficacy (0.1 μM) in inducing cytotoxicity* in GBM tumor cells. Conversely, the polar fraction in our experiment did not demonstrate efficacy against UM251 cells. The quantification of individual compounds within a cannabis extraction that selectively induces cell death in brain tumors holds promise for guiding future research and facilitating the development of a standardized csce for GBM therapy.
