The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of vitamin E（VE; 1 500 or 3 000 international units（IU） d^（-1）） and fat（2% of dry matter calcium salt of soybean oil） supplementation during the transition period on feed intake, milk yield and composition and blood metabolites of dairy cows. 48 multiparous Holstein cows were randomly assigned into one of four treatments in a 2×2 factorial arrangement of vitamin E and supplemental dietary fat during the transition period. Treatments were： 1） 1 500 IU d^（-1） vitamin E without fat supplementation（1 500VE-F）; 2） 1 500 IU d^（-1） vitamin E with fat supplement（1 500VE＋F）; 3） 3 000 IU d^（-1） vitamin E without fat supplementation（3 000VE-F）; and 4） 3 000 IU d^（-1） vitamin E with fat supplement（3 000VE＋F）. Dietary treatments were initiated at approximately 28 d before expected calving dates and continued through 28 d postpartum. Dry matter intake（DMI） was unaffected（P〉0.05） by prepartum treatment. Regardless of vitamin E supplementation, DMI was greater（P〈0.01） in fat-supplemented cows compared with un-supplemented cows（19.60 vs. 18.45 kg d^（-1）; SEM=0.42） during the postpartum period. Energy balance and body weight were not affected（P〉0.05） by treatments. Postpartum diets had no significant effect on milk yield or milk composition. Plasma concentrations of non-esterified fatty acids, glucose, and insulin were not affected（P〉0.05） by treatments. Regardless of vitamin E supplementation, plasma β-hydroxybutyrate concentration was greater（P〈0.05） in fat-supplemented cows compared with un-supplemented cows during the postpartum period. These results showed no indication of positive effects on lactation performance associated with vitamin E and dietary fat supplement in transition cows.

Objective To investigate the association between two polymorphisms of follicle stimulating hormone receptor （FSHR） gene and polycystic ovary syndrome （PCOS） susceptibility. Methods Case-control studies on relationship of Thr307Ala and Asn680Ser polymorphisms in FSHR gene and PCOS susceptibility were searched from PubMed, ISI web of knowledge, EBSCO, and China National Knowledge Infrastructure （CNKI） databases up to March 21, 2013. The pooled odds ratio （OR） and 95% confidence interval （CO were calculated using fixed- or random-effect model based on heterogeneity test in 5 genotype models analyses. Results A total of 11 studies were included in the Meta-analysis. The random-effect analysis showed Asn680Ser was significantly associated with the reduced susceptibility to PCOS with dominant model （Asn/Asn＋Asn/Ser vs. Ser/Ser, OR=0.83, 95% CI： 0.69-1.00）, recessive model （Asn/Asn vs. Asn/Ser＋ Ser/Ser, OR=0.84, 95% CI： 0.72-0.98）, homozygote comparison （Ash/Ash vs. Ser/Ser, 0R=0.79, 95% CI： 0.63-0.98）, and the allele contrast （Asn vs. Ser, OR=0.87, 95% CI： 0.79-0.97） respectively（P=0.02, I2=56.0%）, being protective factors for PCOS. However, no significant associations were found between Thr307Ala and PCOS. Conclusion There might be a significant association between Asn680Ser polymorphism and PCOS.

Objective:To investigate correlates of resistance to G1 nematode infection in Nigerian West African dwarf(WAD) ***:Thirty three sheep were randomly assigned to two groups, A(n=27) which were used for experimental infections,and B(n=6) which served as uninfected *** infected animal received weekly escalating infections with infective larvae(60% Haemonchus contortus(***) and 40%Trichostrongylus colubriformis(***) for 4 *** responses of all the infected and control sheep were assessed by faecal egg count(FEC),worm burden(Wb),packed cell volume(PCV),body weight(Bwt).and body condition score(BCS).On the basis of their individual faecal egg output,Lambs in group A with epg≤1 000 on any sampling day were classified as low faecal egg count(LFEC) phenotype(n = 16),those with epg between 1 000 and 10 000 as intermediate(n=5) and lambs with epg > 10 000 as high feacal egg count(HFEC) phenotype(n=6).Results:The difference between the FEC classes was highly significant(P=0.001).The BCS and weight gained at the end of the experiment by the control and LFEC sheep was significandy higher(P≤0.05) than those of the intermediate and HFEC *** was a significant and negative correlation between the parasitological measures and the trio of BCS,PCV and Bwt of ***:The result of the study indicated that the FEC,weight gain,PCV,and BCS are correlates and potential selection crileria of G1 nematode resistant WAD sheep.

Objectives:This study aimed to investigate the effect of the widely used food emulsifier glycerin monostearate(GM)on testicular toxicity caused by the mixture of three commonly used phthalate esters(MPEs)in rats,and further to explore the underlying *** and Methods:Thirty male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into three *** were orally treated with 160 mg/kg/d MPEs in the MPEs group;coinstantaneously treated with 160 mg/kg/d MPEs and 200 mg/kg/d GM in the MPEs+GM group;and treated with the excipient in the control *** intervention lasted for 5 *** weight,epididymis weight,testicular histopathology,and serum testosterone were detected for testicular toxicity *** testicular ultrastructure,the tight junction proteins zonula occluden(ZO)-1,and claudin were measured for the mechanism ***:The body weight,epididymis,serum testosterone level,and anogenital distance in the MPEs+GM group were significantly decreased compared with control group(P<0.05);Testicular histopathological observation showed that shed spermatids were observed in the MPEs+GM *** observation of testicular cells showed that the cristae number was decreased in some mitochondria in the MPEs group,whereas the cristae were fused and disappeared in most mitochondria in the MPEs+GM *** tight junctions were broken in the MPEs+GM group;meanwhile,the expression of ZO-1 and claudin were altered in the MPEs+GM group(P<0.01).Conclusions:The results from this study indicated that GM aggravated MPEs'testicular toxicity,which might relate to the injured mitochondria and damaged tight junctions in testicular tissue.

Previous studies have shown that the compound(E)-2-(3,4-dihydroxystyryl)-3-hydroxy-4H-pyran-4-one(D30),a pyromeconic acid derivative,possesses antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties,inhibits amyloid-β aggregation,and alleviates scopolamine-induced cognitive impairment,similar to the phase Ⅲ clinical drug *** this study,we established a mouse model of Alzheimer's disease via intracerebroventricular injection of fibrillar amyloid-β to investigate the effect of D30 on fibrillar amyloid-β-induced *** results showed that D30 alleviated fibrillar amyloid-β-induced cognitive impairment,promoted fibrillar amyloid-β clearance from the hippocampus and cortex,suppressed oxidative stress,and inhibited activation of microglia and astrocytes.D30 also reversed the fibrillar amyloid-β-induced loss of dendritic spines and synaptic protein ***,we demonstrated that exogenous fibrillar amyloid-βintroduced by intracerebroventricular injection greatly increased galectin-3 expression levels in the brain,and this increase was blocked by *** the role of D30 in clearing amyloid-β,inhibiting neuroinflammation,protecting synapses,and improving cognition,this study highlights the potential of galectin-3 as a promising treatment target for patients with Alzheimer's disease.

Chemical eye burns present an avoidable,but frequent,occupational injury with potentially detrimental consequences for the quality of life and occupational rehabilitation of the injured.A periodical review of guidelines is required to assure the optimal emergency *** reviewed the literature with emphasis on current German guidelines,primarily *** the crucial first-line measure,the injury prevention has failed and an eye burn has been sustained,the immediate and copious rinsing of the eye is the pivotal emergency treatment *** the immediacy and sufficiency of the emergency rinsing are largely unanimous,there is an ongoing debate about the benefits and risks of specific rinsing solutions,and regular updates on guidelines and recommendations for the emergency treatment are *** easiest and readily available rinsing solution is tap water,which fulfils the crucial criteria conveniently in most industrialized countries:purity,sterility,and neutral p *** rinsing solutions are proposing higher osmolality to stabilize the physiological p H,because of their superior buffering ***,there is no compelling evidence for a substantial benefit,and some reports suggest that there could be unwanted side *** combination with the substantially increased expenditure and a more complex handling procedure,currently a general recommendation of any other solution than tap water is not warranted.
