New potential barite reference materials for LA-MC-ICP-MS sulfur isotope analysis with application to hydrothermal barite in the Huayangchuan deposit， western China

Sulfur isotopes of S-bearing materials are powerful tools to trace various geological processes and sulfur sources in earth sciences， especially in ore deposits where sulfide-sulfate pair coprecipitates widely. However， in-situ S isotope determination of barite is challenging without natural matrix-matched reference material. In this study， we present two natural barite reference materials （1-YS and 294-YS） for in-situ sulfur isotopic analysis. Independent LA-MC-ICP-MS laboratories were utilized to test the δ34S micron-scale homogeneity of 1-YS and 294-YS barites that have 2s repeatabilities of better than ±0.45 ‰ and ±0.41 ‰， respectively. Meanwhile， the in-situ analysis results are consistent with the results of the bulk analysis by GS-IRMS within uncertainty. The grand mean δ34S values of 1-YS （13.37‰ ± 0.42 ‰， 2s） and 294-YS （14.38‰ ± 0.44 ‰， 2s） are the final recommended values obtained from four independent laboratories. All the results confirm the suitability of 1-YS and 294-YS barite used as calibration materials with respect to in-situ S isotopic analysis. Moreover， the new developed barite reference materials were used as matrix-matched standard to calibrate the barite samples from the Huayangchuan carbonatite-hosted U-polymetallic deposit （Qinling orogenic belt， western China） to obtain δ34S values. Utilizing the temperature-dependent δ34S fractionation of barite-pyrite pair， we calculate the formation temperature of barite （i.e.， 506 to 537 ℃） and the δ34S value of mineralizing fluid （i.e.， -7.11‰ to -7.59 ‰） in the Huayangchuan deposit. The results indicate an involvement of sedimentary sulfur， presumably acting as a potential uranium source （e.g.， upper crustal materials） for the giant Huayangchuan deposit.

There is an increased awareness that celiac disease may occur in the elderly although presentations with either diarrhea, weight loss or both may be less common causing delays in diagnosis for prolonged periods. Higher detection rates also seem evident owing to active case screening, largely through serodiagnostic measures. In some elderly patients who are genetically predisposed, it has been hypothesized that celiac disease might be precipitated late in life by an antigen, possibly from an infectious agent. As a result, peptide mimicry or other poorly-defined mechanisms may precipitate an autoimmune gluten-dependent clinical state. Although diarrhea and weight loss occur, only isolated iron deficiency anemia may be present at the time of initial diagnosis. In addition, the risk of other autoimmune disorders, particularly autoimmune thyroiditis, and bone disease, are increased. Osteopenia may also be associated with an increased risk of fractures. Finally, elderly celiacs have an increased risk of malignant intestinal disease, especially lymphoma.

We have analysed the reasons for the low reported incidence of prostate cancer in China and argue for early diagnosis and treatment of this disease. According to the 2002 database of the International Agency for Research on Cancer （IARC）, the age-standardized incidence of prostate cancer in China is 1.6/105 person years （PY）, with a mortality rate of 1.0/105 PY and mortality-to-incidence rate ratio （MR/IR） = 0.63. The MR/IR ratio of prostate cancer in China was found to be higher than the average in Asia （MR/IR = 0.57） and much higher than that in North America （MR/IR = 0.13）. These data indicate that in China most prostate cancers were in the advanced stages at the time of diagnosis, and that patients had a short survival time thereafter. In 2004, Stamey et al. reported a retrospective American study of prostate cancer for the years 1983-2003. It was shown that most cases of prostate cancer detected by prostate-specific antigen （PSA） screening were in the advanced stage at the start of this 20-year period. These early follow-up data are quite similar to the results obtained from mass PSA screening of elderly men in Changchun, China. However, after the American programmes for early diagnosis and treatment of prostate cancer were accepted, tumours were diagnosed at earlier stages. On the basis of these findings, mass screening should be performed in the whole of China using serum PSA to facilitate early diagnosis and treatment of prostate cancer.

Concurrent engineering is currently an overwhelming t rend in product development since it takes the down-stream product development issues and product life-cycle issues into consideration in up-front design pro cess. At this stage, evaluation, verification and validation of design concepts and design schemes is critical to the right-to-market product development. I dentification and extraction of design intent from the part digital mock-ups in different data formats and created in different CAD systems for DFX considerati on, evaluation, verification, and validation is crucial too. Traditionally, fro m manufacturing point of view, feature identification and extraction is to get t he features and feature-related information for manufacturing planning and inte gration. Presently, from the viewpoint of product development and product servi ce life cycle, design intent identification and extraction is to get all the des ign-related information for DFX consideration in early design stage, such as de sign for assembly, design for service, design for tooling, design for functional ity and design for environment etc. Therefore, how to successfully extract desi gn intent such as design and machining features and design-related information from the prototyping digital mock-ups created by different CAD systems for DFX consideration in upstream design stage is a very useful topic in integrated prod uct and process design and development. Presently, there are heterogeneous CAD systems in the market and the interoperat ion among the different CAD systems is indispensable. The interoperability of d ifferent CAD systems is by way of data exchanged technology such as STEP and IGE S. The critical weakness of this interoperation technology is that much of the design intent is lost in the interoperation process. Pores,microcracks and density of plasma sprayed Cr2O3 coatings before and after high-intensity pulsed ion beam(HIPIB) irradiation were investigated using the ultrasonic reflection coefficient spectroscopy(URCS).The URCS was analyzed based on an acoustic transmission model for the multi-layered *** longitudinal velocity in the coatings was calculated from the experimental URCS,and the attenuation coefficient expression was deduced by comparing the experimental and numerical fitting amplitude spectral *** longitudinal velocity of as-sprayed Cr2O3 coating is 2 002 m/s,and increases to 2 099 and 2 148 m/s after being irradiated by HIPIB with 1 and 5 ***,the factor A changes from 0.046 to 0.026 and 0.020 and n from 1.702 to 1.658 and 1.649 in the attenuation coefficient expression of α=Af *** is observed that the surface morphology of Cr2O3 coatings changes from rough and porous to smooth and uniform with the increase of shot number,which accords with the ultrasonic analyses *** URCS seems to provide a convenient and nondestructive method to characterize surface modification of the plasma sprayed coatings.

Embolic Effects of Bletilla striata Microspheres in Renal Artery and Transplanted VX2 Liver Tumor Model in Rabbits

Objective: To evaluate the characteristics of Bletilla striata microspheres(BSMs) and its effects as an embolic agent in a rabbit model. Methods: BSMs were prepared with an emulsi?cation-cool condensation-chemical cross-linking method. The characteristics of BSMs in vitro were observed. Embolization experiments were performed in renal artery of rabbit and in a rabbit liver VX2 carcinoma model. Seventy-two New Zealand rabbits were divided into 2 groups, and the right renal artery was embolized with BSMs(200 μm in diameter) in the experimental group and with polyvinyl alcohol(PVA) of the same size in the control group. The pathological findings were examined with hematoxylin-eosin and Masson stainings. Liver and renal functions were tested before and after ***2 tumor was transplanted in 15 New Zealand rabbits, which were randomly divided into 3 groups(n=5). Group A were treated with saline, group B with a mixture of doxorubicin and lipiodol, and group C with hepatic arterial infusion of BSMs(200 μm in diameter). Tumor growth rate was evaluated by magnetic resonance imaging ***-related factors(bax, bcl-2) and tumor vascular endothelial cell growth factor(VEGF) were evaluated through immunohistochemical staining. Results: The characteristics of BSMs in vitro were in full compliance with the requirements for use in interventional procedures. In the renal artery embolization experiment, after BSMs intervention, it was more dif?cult to form collateral circulation than that with PVAs, and the kidney manifested atrophy and calci?cation. There were no signi?cant difference of liver and renal functions in rabbits between groups. In the liver VX2 carcinoma embolization experiment, compared with group A, the growth rate of VX2 liver tumor and Bcl-2 levels was reduced, while apoptosis index, Bax, and VEGF were increased in group B(P0.05). Water pollution accidents, such as the Flint water crisis in the United States, caused by lead contamination have raised concern on the safety of drinking water distribution systems. Thus, the routine monitoring of lead in water is highly required and demands efficient, sensitive, cost-effective, and reliable lead detection methods. This study reports a label-free colorimetric nanosensor that uses unmodified gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) as indicators to enable rapid and ultra-sensitive detection of lead in environmental water. The 8-17 DNAzyme was truncated in this study to facilitate the detachment of single-stranded DNA fragments after substrate cleavage in the presence of Pb「. The detached fragments were adsorbed over AuNPs and protected against salt concentration-induced aggregation. Accordingly, high Pb^2+ would result in rapid color change from blue to pink. The established sensing principle achieved a sensitive limit of detection of 0.2×10^-9mol/L Pb^2+. with a linear working range of two orders of magnitude from 0.5×10^-9mol/L to 5×10^-9mol/L. The selectivity of the nanosensor was demonstrated by evaluating the interfering metal ions. The developed nanosensor can serve as a substitute for the rapid analysis and monitoring of trace lead levels under the drinking water distribution system and even other environmental water samples.
