Improvement of energy efficiency and environmental impacts of rainbow trout in Iran

Combination of Life Cycle Assessment(LCA)and other management tools can help production units to improve economic productivity and environmental *** this study,a combination of LCA and Data Envelopment Analysis(DEA)was applied in order to improve the energy efficiency and reduce the environmental burdens of rainbow trout farm in Ardal and Lordegan regions located in Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari Province of *** required data were collected from 60 rainbow trout farms in Ardal region and 38 rainbow trout farms in Lordegan region through face-to-face questionnaire *** Ardal region,total energy inputs,rainbow trout yield and Energy Ratio(ER)were estimated as 60,483.50 MJ ton−1,281.78 ton ha−1 and 0.40,respectively,while for Lordegan region,these estimates were obtained as 77,183.63 MJ ha−1,210.50 kg ha−1 and 0.33,*** results of LCA revealed that rainbow trout production in Ardal region had lower environmental burdens than Lordegan region in all impact ***,Environmental Emissions Final Score(EEFS)in Ardal and Lordegan regions were 1638.88 and 3484.31 ppt ton−1,*** normalized results also showed that Marine Aquatic Ecotoxicity(MAE)had the highest value among all impact categories in both *** DEA results showed that in Ardal and Lordegan regions about 29.28%and 9.59%of the total energy can be saved without reducing the yield,*** highest potential for saving energy was related to feed in both Ardal(24.74%)and Lordegan(9.12%)*** results of LCA coupled with DEA also revealed that there is a higher potential for reduction of environmental impacts in Ardal region compare to Lordegan ***,the EEFS value in Ardal and Lordegan regionswere reduced by 27.34%and 8.85%,***,rainbow trout production in Ardal region had higher energy efficiency,lower environmental burdens and also higher potential to improve energy consumption and reduce the environmental impacts c

In this study,a comprehensive review focusing on key strategies of energy saving technologies based on simulation of heat and mass transfer and also artificial intelligent for climate controlling is *** the brief and concise assessment of existing greenhouse systems in terms of their role in total energy consumption;effective shape and structure,energy-efficient and new technologies are analyzed in detail for potential utilization in greenhouses for notable reductions in energy consumption and also go toward the *** technologies considered within the scope of this research are mainly renewable and sustainable based solutions such as photovoltaic(PV)modules,solar thermal(T)collectors,hybrid PV/T collectors and systems,phase change material(PCM)and underground based heat storage techniques,energy-efficient heat pumps,alternative facade materials for better thermal insulation and power *** findings from the research clearly reveal that up to 70%energy saving can be achieved through appropriate retrofit of conventional *** of solar greenhouses in Europe is more popular than *** some countries in Asia such as Iran,it is very restrict to invest on renewable projects because of cheap fossil *** it is recommended beside of investments by private investors,the Iranian government should also invest in the extension of solar energy in greenhouse by setting up a specialized agency or contracting *** should target the modeling and design the best shape of solar greenhouse for all agricultural areas to receive the maximum solar radiation and decrease the need of fossil fuels.

Prediction the inside environment variables in greenhouses is very important because they play a vital role in greenhouse cultivation and energy lost especially in cold and hot *** greenhouse environment is an uncertain nonlinear system which classical modeling methods have some problems to solve *** the main goal of this study is to select the best method between Artificial Neural Network(ANN)and Support Vector Machine(SVM)to estimate three different variables include inside air,soil and plant temperatures(Ta,Ts,Tp)and also energy exchange in a polyethylene greenhouse in Shahreza city,Isfahan province,*** environmental factors which influencing all the inside temperatures such as outside air temperature,wind speed and outside solar radiation were collected as data *** this research,13 different training algorithms were used for ANN models(MLPRBF).Based on K-fold cross validation and Randomized Complete Block(RCB)methodology,the best model was *** results showed that the type of training algorithm and kernel function are very important factors in ANN(RBF and MLP)and SVM models performance,*** RBF,MLP and SVM models showed that the performance of RBF to predict Ta,Tp and Ts variables is better according to small values of RMSE and MAPE and large value of R2 *** range of RMSE and MAPE factors for RBF model to predict Ta,Tp and Ts were between 0.07 and 0.12C and 0.28-0.50%,*** and stability of the RBF model with 5-fold cross validation analysis showed that this method can use with small size of data *** performance of best model(RBF)to estimate the energy lost and exchange in the greenhouse with heat transfer models showed that this method can estimate the real data in greenhouse and then predict the energy lost and exchange with high accuracy.

Selecting the most appropriate tractor using Analytic Hierarchy Process–An Iranian case study

With regard to the importance of selecting an appropriate tractor in rural areas which is one of the main tasks for most farmers,the aim of this study is to select the best tractor in Ghaemshahr and Ahvaz cities of *** methodology of the paper is descriptiveanalytic and data were collected through library and field works(interviews and questionnaires).The statistic population of this study was 25 tractors in Ghaemshahr and Ahvaz,in that 15 tractors were chosen randomly,and the data were analyzed using AHP(analytic hierarchy process).The results showed that the maximum effect regarding the selection of tractor belonged to the maintenance with 49.4%and the minimum went to ergonomic effect with 7%in Ahvaz and the maximum effect was related to price with 29.6%and the minimum went to ergonomic effect with 6.8%.ITM285 and Romania 650 with 83%were the best tractors in Ahvaz and John Deere 6150 with 83%was the best tractor in Ghaemshahr *** ratio for all the comparisons was zero,so the criteria are completely compatible with the aims and options.

Integrated Weed Management Through Tillage and Herbicides for Wheat Production in Rice-Wheat Cropping System in Northwestern Pakistan

Conservational tillage （CT） in combination with broad spectrum herbicide may be more efficient and economical in controlling weeds, reducing cost of cultivation, and enhancing wheat yield. Field experiments were carried out to evaluate the effect of tillage and herbicides on weeds and wheat yield under rice-wheat cropping system （RWCS）. The results indicated that broad spectrum herbicides particularly, carfentrazone ethyl ester＋ isoproturon （Affinity 50 WDG） reduced weeds density by 93 and 95% compared to control and also produced the maximum grain yield （6 818 and 6 996 kg ha-l） and HI （harvest index, 44.7 and 44.6%） in 2007-2008 and 2008-2009 growing seasons, respectively. The maximum weeds infestation and the lowest yield were recorded in control. Tillage methods significantly influenced grain yield and HI, while no significant effect on all other parameters. The overall mean yield was significantly higher in zero tillage （5 575 kg ha-l） and reduced tillage （5 584 kg ha-l） compared to CT （5 479 kg ha-^-1）. Besides increasing wheat yield, Affinity 50 WDG and zero tillage are important weed management practices that can be integrated into wheat production in RWCS. However, in case of perennial weeds or insect pests＇ infestation, CT in combination with Affinity 50 WDG would be more productive than conservation tillage.

Changes in Nutrient-Homeostasis and Reserves Metabolism During Rice Seed Priming:Consequences for Seedling Emergence and Growth

In this study influence of different seed priming treatments on the nutrient-homeostasis and reserve metabolism during seedling emergence and growth of rice were determined. Seed priming treatments included pre-germination, hydropriming for 48 h, osmohardening with KCl and CaCl2, ascorbate priming and hardening. All treatments shortened the emergence time and enhanced the energy and index of seedling emergence. Seedlings from primed seeds had greater length, number of roots and fresh and dry mass than control. Among the treatments, CaCl2, ascorbate and KCl proved better in enhancing emergence and seedling growth. Seed priming changed the pattern of N and Ca^2＋ homeostasis both of the seeds and seedlings, which were associated to enhancing s-amylase activity and reducing sugars content. Positive correlations of seedling attributes with nutrient content suggested that as a result of seed priming, most of N and Ca^2＋ were partitioned to embryo, which enhanced seedling emergence and subsequent growth of rice seedlings.

Impact of Tillage and Herbicides on Weed Density, Yield and Quality of Cotton in Wheat Based Cropping System

Conservation tillage may improve yield of cotton in addition to improvement in soil quality if practiced for longer period. However, the practice may not be productive in short-term particularly when severe weeds are infesting the crops such as Cynodon dactylon, Conyza canadensis, Tribulus terrestris, and Cyperus rotundus, etc. Recent studies indicate that conventional tillage （CT） is more productive than zero tillage （ZT）/reduced tillage （RT）. Performance of cotton under three tillage systems, viz., ZT, RT and CT; and five herbicides, i.e., haloxyfop-R-methyl 10.8 EC （108 g a.i. ha^-1）, lactofen 24 EC （168 g a.i. ha^-1）, haloxyfop 10.8 EC ＋ lactofen 24 EC, hand weeding, and weedy check were evaluated during 2010-2011 at Gomal University, ***, Pakistan, to explore the best management option for effective weed control, enhanced yield and quality of cotton grown after wheat. The results revealed that hand weeding and Haloxyfop as post emergence alone or in combination with Lactofen reduced weed density to the minimum irrespective of the tillage systems. Excessive rainfall and cooler temperature limited cotton growth and yield in 2010. The adverse weather conditions had more adverse effect on boll weight under ZT and RT than CT. Haloxyfop ＋ lactofen produced higher seed cotton yield in RT than ZT, however, it could not exceed CT. Broad-spectrum herbicides x CT produced the highest number of bolls/plant, boll weight and seed cotton yield. Fiber quality and net returns were also the highest in broad-spectrum herbicides x CT. In conclusion, broad-spectrum herbicides under CT were more productive in wheat based cropping system on silty clay soil of ***.

Development of Pasteuria penetrans in Meloidogyne javanica females as affected by constantly high vs fluctuating temperature in an in-vivo system

Growth room and glasshouse experiment was conducted to investigate the effect of constant and fluctuating tem- peratures on the development of Pasteuria penetrans a hyperparasite of root-knot nematodes. Tomato plants (Lycopersicon es- culentum Mill) were inoculated with Meloidogyne javanica second-stage juveniles attached with endospores of P. penetrans and were grown in growth room at 26?29 °C and in glasshouse at 20?32 °C. The tomato plants were sampled from the growth room after 600 degree-days based on 17 °C/d, accumulating each day above a base temperature of 10 °C and from the glasshouse after 36 calendar days. Temperature affected the development of P. penetrans directly. The rate of development at constant temperature in growth room was faster than that in the glasshouse at fluctuating temperatures.
