In psychiatric hospitals, the ratios between patients versus physician and patients versus nurse are low as compared to those in general hospitals. Furthermore, usages of electronic medical records are also low so that nurse administrators are limited in their ability to compile, analyze, and generate patient care staffing information for their administrative use. Psychiatric nurse administrators anticipate the development of a nursing administration analysis system that could perform personnel data simulation, manage information on nursing staff, and manage ward/ practice operations. Responding to this situation, the authors developed a nursing administration analysis system utilizing formulae from the Psychiatric Outcome Management System, PSYCHOMS®to aid nurse administrators. Such formulae are awaiting patent approval. The purpose of this study was to examine the validity of the formulae and the Structured Query Language (SQL) statement, and its practical effectiveness of analyzing data. The study findings showed that two kinds of computation expressions—a classification and extraction were able to display required information desired by nurse administrators. Moreover, significant information critical to assigning staff was validated to ensure high quality of nursing care according to the function and characteristic of the hospital ward.

Background Malaria continues to cause burden in various parts of the ***,a Caribbean country,is among those aiming to eliminate malaria within a few *** surveys were conducted in Haiti during which we aimed to evaluate the performance of the simple and rapid procedure for ultra-rapid extraction-loop-mediated isothermal amplifcation(PURE-LAMP)method with dried blood spots as an alternative diagnostic method for malaria in the context of low to very low rates of *** Febrile and afebrile people were recruited from three administrative divisions within Haiti:Nippes,Sud and Grand’Anse,during the summers of 2017(early August to early September)and 2018(late July to late August).Their blood samples were tested by microscopy,rapid diagnostic tests(RDT),PURE-LAMP and nested PCR to detect Plasmodium ***,specifcity,positive and negative predictive values and kappa statistics were estimated with the nested PCR results as the gold *** Among 1074 samples analyzed,a positive rate of 8.3%was calculated based on the nested PCR *** febrile participants,the rates in 2017 and 2018 were 14.6%and 1.4%,*** positives were detected among 172 afebrile participants in 2018 by PURE-LAMP and nested PCR,and all three were from the same *** was no afebrile participants recruited in *** PURE-LAMP,RDT and microscopy had respective sensitivities of 100%,85.4%and 49.4%.All of the testing methods had specifcities over 99%.Conclusions This study confrmed the high performance of the PURE-LAMP method to detect Plasmodium infection with dried blood spots and recommends its use in targeted mass screening and treatment activities in low endemic areas of malaria.

Socio-Economic Vulnerability to COVID-19: The Spatial Case of Greater Kampala Metropolitan Area (GKMA)

COVID-19 has presented itself with an extreme impact on the resources of its epi-centres. In Uganda, there is uncertainty about what will happen especially in the main urban hub, the Greater Kampala Metropolitan Area (GKMA). Consequently, public health professionals have scrambled into resource-driven strategies and planning to tame the spread. This paper, therefore, deploys spatial modelling to contribute to an understanding of the spatial variation of COVID-19 vulnerability in the GKMA using the socio-economic characteristics of the region. Based on expert opinion on the prevailing novel Coronavirus, spatially driven indicators were generated to assess vulnerability. Through an online survey and auxiliary datasets, these indicators were transformed, classified, and weighted based on the BBC vulnerability framework. These were spatially modelled to assess the vulnerability indices. The resultant continuous indices were aggregated, explicitly zoned, classified, and ranked based on parishes. The resultant spatial nature of vulnerability to COVID-19 in the GKMA sprawls out of major urban areas, diffuses into the peri-urban, and thins into the sparsely populated areas. The high levels of vulnerability (24.5% parishes) are concentrated in the major towns where there are many shopping malls, transactional offices, and transport hubs. Nearly half the total parishes in the GKMA (47.3%) were moderately vulnerable, these constituted mainly the parishes on the outskirts of the major towns while 28.2% had a low vulnerability. The spatial approach presented in this paper contributes to providing a rapid assessment of the socio-economic vulnerability based on administrative decision units-parishes. This essentially equips the public health domain with the right diagnosis to subject the highly exposed and vulnerable communities to regulatory policy, increase resilience incentives in low adaptive areas and optimally deploy resources to avoid the emancipation of high susceptibility

＜正＞During the decade from around 1960 in Japan, with rapid economic growth, the problem of water pollution became more widely and severe. In the Seto Inland Sea, accelerated water pollution, caused by the increase of population and industrial activities along the coastal zone, led to frequent appearance of red tide and resulting damage of aquatic product industry. Against successively serious water pollution, the Law Concerning Special Measures for Conservation of the Environment of the Seto Inland Sea was enacted in 1973. With the administrative steps and efforts of industrial plants, local governments and residents, the pollution of Seto Inland Sea has gradually been reduced, and the environment is being improved to some *** present study collected water quality data in Osaka Bay for the recent 70 years, and also social and economic information such as population, livestock, fertilizer, industrial product and so on, in order to examine the effects of nutrient loads discharged from land on the water qualities in Osaka Bay quantitatively. The present study clarifies how Osaka Bay has been contaminated by the discharges of industrial, domestic and agricultural waste waters and how the area-wide total pollutant control has affected the water quality in Osaka Bay.

Atmospheric polychlorinated biphenyls measured during the 2008 Chinese National Arctic Research Expedition

From July to September 2008, air samples were collected aboard the R/V XUE LONG icebreaker （Snow Dragon） as part of the 2008 Chinese National Arctic Research Expedition program. ∑20PCBs in the atmosphere ranged from 6.20 to 365 pg.m^-3 with average concentration 117±107 pg.m^- 3. Congener profiles in all samples showed a prevalence of tri- and tetrachlorobiphenyls, dominated by PCB-18, PCB-28, PCB-44 and PCB-52. Along the cruise, the highest concentration was observed over the Sea of Japan and the lowest over the high-latitude Arctic Ocean. Air mass backward trajectories indicated that samples with relatively high levels of PCBs might have been influenced by atmospheric transport of these chemicals from primary and/ or secondary sources. PCB-18 displayed a significant correlation between vapor pressure and ambient temperature along the cruise, but there was no such correlation between gas-phase concentration and latitude. This suggests that atmospheric PCB-18 was related to volatilization from the earth surface during summer 2008, during which temperatures were relatively high. PCB-52 presented a significant correlation between gas-phase concentration and latitude, but no such correlation was found between vapor pressure and ambient temperature, indicating that atmospheric PCB-52 detected during the cruise might be attributed directly to atmospheric transport from source regions. In the Arctic, levels of PCB-52 in the floating sea ice region were higher than those measured in the open sea area and pack ice region. Intense ice retreat during summer 2008 might have enhanced the volatilization of previously accumulated PCBs from sea ice, especially those with heavier molecular weight and lower vapor pressure such as PCB-52.

Background: Tree species represent 20% of the vascular plant species worldwide and they play a crucial role in the global functioning of the biosphere. The Mediterranean Basin is one of the 36 world biodiversity hotspots, and it is estimated that forests covered 82% of the landscape before the first human impacts, thousands of years ago. However, the spatial distribution of the Mediterranean biodiversity is still imperfectly known, and a focus on tree species constitutes a key issue for understanding forest functioning and develop conservation strategies. Methods: We provide the first comprehensive checklist of all native tree taxa (species and subspecies) present in the Mediterranean-European region (from Portugal to Cyprus). We identified some cases of woody species difficult to categorize as trees that we further called "cryptic trees". We collected the occurrences of tree taxa by"administrative regions", i.e. country or large island, and by biogeographical provinces. We studied the species-area relationship, and evaluated the conservation issues for threatened taxa following IUCN criteria. Results: We identified 245 tree taxa that included 210 species and 35 subspecies, belonging to 33 families and 64 genera. It included 46 endemic tree taxa (30 species and 16 subspecies), mainly distributed within a single biogeographical unit. The countries with the highest tree richness are Greece (146 taxa), Italy (133), Albania (122), Spain (155), Macedonia (116), and Croatia (110). The species-area relationship clearly discriminated the richest central-eastern (Balkans) and northern (Alpine and Cevenno-Pyrenean) biogeographical provinces, against the five western provinces in the Iberian Peninsula. We identified 44 unrecognized "cryptic trees", representing 21% of the total trees. Among the 245 taxa identified, 19 are considered to be threatened (15 CR+EN+VU) or near threatened (4 NT) by IUCN.
