Causes of severe neonatal hyperbilirubinemia: a multicenter study of three regions in China

Background Available evidence suggests that our country bear great burden of severe ***,the causes have not been explored recently in different regions of China to guide necessary clinical and public health *** This was a prospective,observational study conducted from March 1,2018,to February 28,*** hospitals in three regions of China participated in the *** from infants with a gestational age≥35 weeks,birth weight>2000 g,and total serum bilirubin(TSB)level≥17 mg/dL(342μmol/L)were prospectively *** A total of 783 cases were *** were identified in 259 *** major causes were ABO incompatibility(n=101),glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency(n=76),and intracranial hemorrhage(n=70).All infants with glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency were from the central south *** from the central south region had much higher peak total bilirubin levels[mean,404μmol/L;standard deviation(SD),75μmol/L]than those from the other regions(mean,373μmol/L;SD,35μmol/L)(P<0.001).Conclusions ABO incompatibility was the leading cause in the east and northwest regions,but cases in the central south region were mainly caused by both ABO incompatibility and glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency,and infants in this region had a much higher peak total bilirubin *** hemorrhage may be another common *** thorough assessments and rigorous bilirubin follow-up strategies are needed in the central south region.

Secondary brain damage caused by hyperactivation of autophagy and inflammatory responses in neurons plays an important role in hypoxic-ischemic brain damage(HIBD).Although previous studies have implicated Toll-like receptor 4(TLR4)and nuclear factor kappa-B(NF-κB)in the neuroinflammatory response elicited by brain injury,the role and mechanisms of the TLR4-mediated autophagy signaling pathway in neonatal HIBD are still *** hypothesized that this pathway can regulate brain damage by modulating neuron autophagy and neuroinflammation in neonatal rats with ***,we established a neonatal HIBD rat model using the Rice-Vannucci method,and injected 0.75,1.5,or 3 mg/kg of the TLR4 inhibitor resatorvid(TAK-242)30 minutes after hypoxic *** results indicate that administering TAK-242 to neonatal rats after HIBD could significantly reduce the infarct volume and the extent of cerebral edema,alleviate neuronal damage and neurobehavioral impairment,and decrease the expression levels of TLR4,phospho-NF-κB p65,Beclin-1,microtubule-associated protein l light chain 3,tumor necrosis factor-α,and interleukin-1βin the ***,TAK-242 appears to exert a neuroprotective effect after HIBD by inhibiting activation of autophagy and the release of inflammatory cytokines via inhibition of the TLR4/NF-κB signaling *** study was approved by the Laboratory Animal Ethics Committee of Affiliated Hospital of Yangzhou University,China(approval No.20180114-15)on January 14,2018.

The role of the Rho/ROCK signaling pathway in inhibiting axonal regeneration in the central nervous system

The Rho/Rho-associated coiled-coil containing protein kinase（Rho/ROCK） pathway is a major signaling pathway in the central nervous system, transducing inhibitory signals to block regeneration. After central nervous system damage, the main cause of impaired regeneration is the presence of factors that strongly inhibit regeneration in the surrounding microenvironment. These factors signal through the Rho/ROCK signaling pathway to inhibit regeneration. Therefore, a thorough understanding of the Rho/ROCK signaling pathway is crucial for advancing studies on regeneration and repair of the injured central nervous system.

Prevalence of retinopathy of prematurity in Brunei Darussalam

AIM: To identify the prevalence of retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) among preterm neonates admitted to department of neonatology, RIPAS hospital, Brunei Darussalam. ·METHODS: We studied 67 preterm infants fulfilling the eligibility criteria for ROP screening. All infants studied were admitted to the department of neonatology, RIPAS Hospital, within a period of one year. Birth weight (BW), gestational age (GA), corrected age at each review, initial and final diagnoses and number of reviews required was recorded for each infant. Infants were followed up two weekly until they reach a corrected age of 40 weeks or complete vascularization was noted. Prevalence of ROP was identified. Descriptive analysis, regression analysis and independent-sample t-test were used to statistically check for differences between ROP and non -ROP groups. ·RESULTS: A total number of 201 ROP screenings were carried out for 67 preterm infants. Males outnumbered females (56.7%). The mean number of reviews per child was (3.19 ±1.1) times (range: 1 -6 times), the mean GA among the preterm babies examined was (29.5 ±2.6) weeks (range: 23 -36 weeks), and the mean BW was 1300 ±500g (range: 660 -3600g). The prevalence of ROP among the examined infants was 34.8% . Prevalence of threshold disease that required laser treatment was 25.4% . Prevalence of ROP among those with extremely low BW was 86.7% compared to 27.8% in those with very low BW. Respiratory distress and congenital heart diseases were significantly associated with higher incidence of ROP. ·CONCLUSION: Lower BW, lower GA and female gender are associated with higher risk of developing ROP among preterm infants in Brunei Darussalam.

Thyroid status of iodine deficient newborn infants living in central region of Turkey: a pilot study

Exploring the electromagnetic shielding behavior of lanthanum doped calcium nanoferrites

The present study focuses on the synthesis and characterization of lanthanum(La3+)-doped calcium nanoferrites(CaLaxFe2-xO4:x=0.025,0.050,0.075 and 0.100) using the sonochemical *** techniques were employed to analyze the effect of La3+infusion,Raman spectroscopy confirms the presence of active A1g,T2gand Egmodes in the CaLaxFe2-xO4nanoferrite,indicating the formation of an active ferrite *** introduction of La3+doping results in a significant increase in the band gap energy,rendering the nanoferrites insulating（3.23-3,57 eV）.At higher frequencies,the impedance studies reveal minimal losses and better AC conductivity,pointing to improved dielectric *** higher frequencies,the Q-factor of La-doped calcium nanoferrites shows lower electromagnetic *** M-H curve exhibits ferromagnetic behavior,with La3+-doped calcium nano ferrites displaying a saturation magnetization ranging from 12.72 to 18.10 emu/*** incorporation of La3+also induces enhanced electrical polarization,leading to notable dielectric loss and increased absorption of electromagnetic ***,these CaLaxFe2-xO4nanoferrites demonstrate potential as effective microwave absorbers across a wide frequency range,with significant shielding absorption observed at 8.8-9.1 GHz.
