In astrophysics, the boundary conditions for plasma phenomena are provided by nature and the astronomer faces the problem of understanding them from a variety of observations [Hester J J et al 1996 Astrophys. J. 456 225], on the other hand, in laboratory plasma experiments the electromagnetic boundary conditions become a major problem in the set-up of the machine that produces the plasma, an issue that has to be investigated step by step and to be modified and adapted with great patience, in particular in the case of an innovative plasma confinement experiment. The PRoTo-SPHERA machine [Alladio f et al 2006 Nucl. fusion 46 S613] is a magnetic confinement experiment, that emulates in the laboratory the jet + torus plasma configurations often observed in astrophysics: an inner magnetized jet of plasma centered on the(approximate) axis of symmetry and surrounded by a magnetized plasma torus orthogonal to this jet. The PRoTo-SPHERA plasma is simply connected, i.e., no metal current conducting rod is linked to the plasma torus, while instead it is the inner magnetized plasma jet(in the following always called the plasma centerpost) that is linked to the torus. It is mandatory that no spurious plasma current path modifies the optimal shape of the plasma centerpost. Moreover, as the plasma torus is produced and sustained, in absence of any applied inductive electric field, by the inner plasma centerpost through magnetic reconnections [Taylor J B and Turner M f 1989 *** 29 219], it is required as well that spurious current paths do not surround the torus on its outboard, in order not to lower the efficiency of the magnetic reconnections that maintain the plasma torus at the expense of the plasma centerpost. Boundary conditions have been corrected,up to the point that the first sustainment in steady state has been achieved for the combined plasma.

Phishing attacks present a persistent and evolving threat in the cybersecurity land-scape, necessitating the development of more sophisticated detection methods. Traditional machine learning approaches to phishing detection have relied heavily on feature engineering and have often fallen short in adapting to the dynamically changing patterns of phishing Uniform Resource Locator (URLs). Addressing these challenge, we introduce a framework that integrates the sequential data processing strengths of a Recurrent Neural Network (RNN) with the hyperparameter optimization prowess of the Whale optimization Algorithm (WoA). our model capitalizes on an extensive Kaggle dataset, featuring over 11,000 URLs, each delineated by 30 attributes. The WoA’s hyperparameter optimization enhances the RNN’s performance, evidenced by a meticulous validation process. The results, encapsulated in precision, recall, and f1-score metrics, surpass baseline models, achieving an overall accuracy of 92%. This study not only demonstrates the RNN’s proficiency in learning complex patterns but also underscores the WoA’s effectiveness in refining machine learning models for the critical task of phishing detection. Cyberbullying is a form of harassment or bullying that takes place online or through digital devices like smart-phones, computers, or tablets. It can occur through various channels, such as social media, text messages, online forums, or gaming platforms. Cyberbullying involves using technology to intentionally harm, harass, or intimidate others and may take different forms, including exclusion, doxing, impersonation, harassment, and cyberstalking. Unfortunately, due to the rapid growth of malicious internet users, this social phenomenon is becoming more frequent, and there is a huge need to address this issue. Therefore, the main goal of the research proposed in this manuscript is to tackle this emerging challenge. A dataset of sexist harassment on Twitter, containing tweets about the harassment of people on a sexual basis, for natural language processing (NLP), is used for this purpose. Two algorithms are used to transform the text into a meaningful representation of numbers for machine learning (ML) input: Term frequency inverse document frequency (Tf-IDf) and Bidirectional encoder representations from transformers (BERT). The well-known eXtreme gradient boosting (XGBoost) ML model is employed to classify whether certain tweets fall into the category of sexual-based harassment or not. Additionally, with the goal of reaching better performance, several XGBoost models were devised conducting hyperparameter tuning by metaheuristics. for this purpose, the recently emerging Coyote optimization algorithm (CoA) was modified and adjusted to optimize the XGBoost model. Additionally, other cutting-edge metaheuristics approach for this challenge were also implemented, and rigid comparative analysis of the captured classification metrics (accuracy, Cohen kappa score, precision, recall, and f1-score) was performed. finally, the best-generated model was interpreted by Shapley additive explanations (SHAP), and useful insights were gained about the behavioral patterns of people w

Capabilities to assimilate Geostationary operational Environmental Satellite “R-series ”(GoES-R) Geostationary Lightning Mapper(GLM) flash extent density(fED) data within the operational Gridpoint Statistical Interpolation ensemble Kalman filter(GSI-EnKf) framework were previously developed and tested with a mesoscale convective system(MCS) case. In this study, such capabilities are further developed to assimilate GoES GLM fED data within the GSI ensemble-variational(EnVar) hybrid data assimilation(DA) framework. The results of assimilating the GLM fED data using 3DVar, and pure En3DVar(PEn3DVar, using 100% ensemble covariance and no static covariance) are compared with those of EnKf/DfEnKf for a supercell storm case. The focus of this study is to validate the correctness and evaluate the performance of the new implementation rather than comparing the performance of fED DA among different DA schemes. only the results of 3DVar and pEn3DVar are examined and compared with EnKf/DfEnKf. Assimilation of a single fED observation shows that the magnitude and horizontal extent of the analysis increments from PEn3DVar are generally larger than from EnKf, which is mainly caused by using different localization strategies in EnfK/DfEnKf and PEn3DVar as well as the integration limits of the graupel mass in the observation operator. overall, the forecast performance of PEn3DVar is comparable to EnKf/DfEnKf, suggesting correct implementation.

We study the smoothing method for the solution of generalized semi-infinite optimization problems from （o. Stein, G. Still： Solving semi-infinite optimization problems with interior point techniques, SIAM J. Control optim., 42（2003）, pp. 769-788）. It is shown that Karush-Kuhn-Tucker points of the smoothed problems do not necessarily converge to a Karush-Kuhn-Tucker point of the original problem, as could be expected from results in （f. facchinei, H. Jiang, L. Qi： A smoothing method for mathematical programs with equilibrium constraints, Math. Program., 85（1999）, pp. 107-134）. Instead, they might merely converge to a fritz John point. We give, however, different additional assumptions which guarantee convergence to Karush-Kuhn：Tucker points.
