Bird Habitats in urban Environments: A Case from an urban Landfill in and around Tayba Al Hasanab Landfill, Khartoum, Sudan

Managed open landfill sites can serve as crucial feeding grounds for birds. Studies have demonstrated that garbage dumps offer favorable feeding habitats for various trophic generalist species, including storks and scavenger raptors. This study aimed to assess bird diversity and abundance in and around Tayba Al Hasanab Landfill, Khartoum. A bird census was conducted using block counts in January 2021. A questionnaire complemented field observations, and interviews were conducted with landfill authorities and waste collectors to gather information on bird availability, numbers, and diversity. During the block counts, 23 bird species were recorded inside and around the landfill. These species directly relied on food resources available at and around the landfill, belonging to 8 orders and 11 families. The four most abundant species foraging at the landfill were Sparrow House (Passer domesticus) with 97 individuals, Black kite (Milvus migrans) with 67 individuals, cattle egret (Bubulcus ibis) with 42 individuals, and Laughing Dove (Spilopelia senegalensis) with 36 individuals. This suggests that these species are the primary exploiters of food resources at the landfill. The results indicate that all species are considered least concerned except the Egyptian Vulture (Neophron percnopterus), which is classified as endangered. Most of the interviewed individuals reported seeing birds in the study area. The study recorded instances of dead birds, such as a white stork colliding and being electrocuted with a transition line observed at different sites along transmission lines near the landfill. Surveys around Tayba landfill need to be conducted to identify deadly power lines for replacement or implement possible mitigation measures on power lines running parallel and close to the Tayba landfills. Improving access to urban parks through public transit optimization

This study establishes an evaluation and optimization framework for the public transit network based on social network analysis and a greedy algorithm,aiming to explore a quantitative approach to improving access to urban parks through public transit *** network analysis and the ArcGIS platform are used to build a public transit network model within Nanjing Old City and analyze its overall network structure *** study also focuses on a method to improve the convenience of reaching regional and citylevel parks by public transit by increasing access and connecting points accordingly.A greedy algorithm is introduced to generate an optimized solution for improving public transit accessibility to regional and city-level parks,consequently enhancing their *** major findings include:(1)The greedy algorithm effectively enhances the performance of the public transit network,but its benefits gradually diminish as more stations are added.(2)Strategically adding stations enhances the performance of most public transit access points,creating efficient pathways for other stations to directly reach these access points and enter regional and city-level parks.(3)The optimized public transit network model offers guidance for the planning and layout of regional and city-level *** site selection for new parks should prioritize establishing connections with the“hubs”in the public transit *** proposed optimization of the public transit network in this study is specific to a single type of urban park,but subsequent research could be conducted to extend the optimization of public transit accessibility around more urban public resources.

An Overview of the Application of Big Data in Supply Chain Management and Adaptation in Nigeria

That the world is a global village is no longer news through the tremendous advancement in the Information Communication Technology (ICT). The metamorphosis of the human data storage and analysis from analogue through the jaguars-loom mainframe computer to the present modern high power processing computers with sextillion bytes storage capacity has prompted discussion of Big Data concept as a tool in managing hitherto all human challenges of complex human system multiplier effects. The supply chain management (SCM) that deals with spatial service delivery that must be safe, efficient, reliable, cheap, transparent, and foreseeable to meet customers’ needs cannot but employ bid data tools in its operation. This study employs secondary data online to review the importance of big data in supply chain management and the levels of adoption in Nigeria. The study revealed that the application of big data tools in SCM and other industrial sectors is synonymous to human and national development. It is therefore recommended that both private and governmental bodies should key into e-transactions for easy data assemblage and analysis for profitable forecasting and policy formation.

Remote estimates of suspended particulate matter in global lakes using machine learning models

Suspended particulate matter(SPM)in lakes exerts strong impact on light propagation,aquatic ecosystem productivity,which co-varies with nutrients,heavy metal and micro-pollutant in *** lakes,SPM exerts strong absorption and backscattering,ultimately affects water leaving signals that can be detected by satellite *** regression models based on specific band or hand ratios have been widely used for SPM estimate in the past with moderate *** are still rooms for model accuracy improvements,and machine learning models may solve the non-linear relationships between spectral variable and SPM in *** assembled more than 16,400 in situ measured SPM in lakes from six continents(excluding the Antarctica continent),of which 9640 samples were matched with Landsat overpasses within±7 *** machine learning algorithms and two simple regression methods(linear and partial least squares models)were used to estimate SPM in lakes and the performance were *** overcome the problem of imbalance datasets in regression,a Synthetic Minority Over-Sampling technique for regression with Gaussian Noise(SMOGN)was adopted in this *** comparison,we found that gradient boosting decision tree(GBDT),random forest(RF),and extreme gradient boosting(XGBoost)models demonstrated good spatiotemporal transferability with SMOGN processed dataset,and has potential to map SPM at different year with good quality of Landsat land surface reflectance *** all the tested modeling approaches,the GBDT model has accurate calibration(n=6428,R^(2)=0.95,MAPE=29.8%)from SPM collected in 2235 lakes across the world,and the validation(n=3214,R^(2)=0.84,MAPE=38.8%)also exhibited stable ***,the good performances were also exhibited by RF model with calibration(R^(2)=0.93)and validation(R^(2)=0.86,MAPE=24.2%)*** applied GBDT and RF models to map SPM of typical lakes,and satisfactory result was *** addition,the GBDT model was evaluated b

Geometric investigation of entrance proportions of houses from the Qajar to the beginning of the early Pahlavi in Dezful City(1789—1979)

Due to the importance of the historical context of Dezful City,investigating historic buildings is *** unfortunately,a large part of it is being *** this reason,it is essential to discover the guidelines and logic behind the architectural design of these buildings to help their reconstruction or ***,there is no logical information about the components of this context and the reconstructions are usually done according to taste and based on architecture tested or personal ***,it is necessary to find a logic behind these critical components that support the whole plan or parts of it in a particular *** purpose of this research is to discover and find the logic behind the design of this building in the historical context of *** geometrical proportions can significantly help to reconstruct buildings better and more *** this purpose,30 historical houses of Dezful were randomly selected,and their input information was drawn in 2D form in ***,the length,width,and height proportions were measured,and the obtained ratios were compared with the golden proportions and dynamic *** paper studies entrance based on ratios of√2,√3,√4,√4,√1.25 andφ(the golden section).The results show that golden proportions and proportions derived from dynamic rectangles are present in the wording of all ***,the range of ratios in the plan is from 1.34 to 2,and the content of changes in the section is from 1.22 to *** results can help architects,and particularly building owners,to reconstruct based on existing logic by discovering the proportions of the entrances of the *** is possible to administer a part of the damaged tissue and estimate its dimensions and sizes because the proportions’completeness can help revive half-destroyed historical buildings.

Peri-urban areas are playing an increasingly crucial role in the agricultural development and intensification in ***-urban agriculture is highly vulnerable to change compared with urban and rural agriculture,due to its location in transitional *** of peri-urban agricultural intensity can help guide regional *** this study,we assessed the sustainability of peri-urban areas based on agricultural intensity in Karawang Regency,*** developed a village-based index to assess the region’s agricultural intensity by rescaling the village agriculture index(VAI)and combining the local sustainability index(LSI)with factor *** the unit of analysis is the village,we modified the LSI to the village sustainability index(VSI).In addition,we also developed a logical matrix analysis to determine the level of agricultural sustainability(LoAS)of each *** combined results of the three indices(VAI,VSI,and LoAS)generated information about agricultural *** results indicated that peri-urban villages with high agricultural intensity tended to exhibit low levels of social welfare,economic development,and disaster ***,high agricultural intensity did not necessarily ensure the prosperity of the ***,there was the economic disparity among the villages in the study *** diversity of agricultural intensity seems to be more critical than promoting agricultural intensity ***,this study highlights the distinctive characteristics and dynamic of peri-urban *** approaches,variables,and information regarding the combination of agricultural intensity and sustainability need to be developed as valuable tools for regional planning.

Biochemistry and transcriptome analysis reveal condensed tannins alleviate liver injury induced by regulating cholesterol metabolism pathway

Free cholesterol has been considered to be a critical risk factor of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD).It remains unknown whether dietary intake of condensed tannins(CTs)have distinguishable effects to alleviate liver damage caused by a high cholesterol *** C57BL/6 mice were fed a high cholesterol diet for 6 weeks,and given CTs treatment at a dosage of 200 mg/(kg·day)at the same *** results indicated that compared with mice fed a normal diet,a high cholesterol diet group resulted in significant weight loss,dysregulation of lipid metabolism in blood and liver,and oxidative stress in the liver,but CTs treatment dramatically reversed these negative *** and eosin(H&E)staining and frozen section observation manifested that CTs treatment could effectively reduce the deposition of liver cholesterol and tissue necrosis caused by high cholesterol *** alleviated liver injury mainly by regulating the expression of related genes in cholesterol metabolism pathway and AMPK *** results confirmed that CTs have remarkable cholesterol lowering and anti-liver injury effects in vivo.

A high percentage of the world's population lives in areas where air pollutant concentrations exceed the World Health Organization *** work aims to develop and test,a high-resolution multi-scale air pollution modelling system by integrating a set of adequate *** system is able to provide detailed air pollutant concentrations in urban areas and support air quality management strategies through a better identification of different atmospheric *** also allows furthering the design and assessment of air pollution control measures for a specific *** evaluate its performance and suitability,the system was applied to the Macao Special Administrative Region(SAR),China,one of the most densely populated areas on earth,during a winter period when this area is affected by high levels of Particulate Matter(PM).Although the developed system tends to underestimate the PM concentrations,it revealed a good performance in reproducing the temporal and spatial air pollution *** exceedances of the Chinese air quality standards were calculated and high population exposure to PM pollution was *** tested urban atmospheric emission reduction scenarios have shown air quality improvements,indicating that emission reduction measures at urban level should focus on the domestic ***,it is crucial to implement joint pollution prevention strategies with neighbouring regions to improve the air quality in Macao *** approach developed in this work can support policymakers in defining new strategies to reduce atmospheric pollution in urban areas.

Environmental Impact Assessment of Onshore Wind Farms in the Region of Central Greece Using a Modified RIAM Method

Wind energy is one of the most basic forms of renewable energy,which shows an increasing rate of development worldwide and also at the European ***,this rapid deployment of wind farms makes the need for an impact assessment of this type of projects on the natural and man-made environment *** present paper aims to identify and assess the environmental impacts of wind farm projects in the Region of Central Greece.A modified Rapid Impact Assessment Matrix(RIAM)method is used for this *** methodology includes the identification of the existing onshore wind farm projects in the study area,the appropriate modifications of the RIAM method to respond to the characteristics of the projects and the study area,the qualitative assessment of their potential impacts during construction and operational phases and the computation of the Environmental Performance Grade(EPG)of projects based on the pro-posed modified RIAM *** results reveal that although there are some slight negative impacts on the natural environment of the study area,the examined wind farms contribute positively both to the atmosphere and to the socio-economic environment of the *** study extends the potential for using RIAM as a tool in environmental impact assessment studies of renewable energy projects.
