The aldolization of various isatins with creatinine under gold catalysis in water has been *** reaction is operationally simple as the products can be isolated by simple filtration without requiring tedious solvent extraction and column chromatographic *** generality of this methodology is showcased through the reactions of a wide range of isatin derivatives with creatinine to afford the respective aldol products in excellent yields with complete syn‐*** scope of this chemistry is further extended to a tandem reaction involving isatins,creatinine and malononitrile to afford multicomponent products in excellent yields with complete anti‐*** antioxidant potency of the synthesized compound was assessed by a spectrophotometric method,which revealed that three compounds containing halogen atoms(2c,2d and2e)were the most active compared with the standard.

【目的】本研究旨在弄清楚生态气候因子是否影响尼泊尔银胶菊Parthenium hysterophorus盛产区中银胶菊叶甲Zygogramma bicolorata成虫后代的形态学测量参数和基础生物学。【方法】从尼泊尔Kathmandu(24℃,海拔1400 m,温带气候),Chitwan(25℃,海拔415 m,热带或亚热带气候)和Mahendranagar(34℃,海拔229 m,湿润-亚热带气候)地区采集银胶菊叶甲成虫,在最适室内条件下评估各生态气候区中其F 1代4龄幼虫和雌成虫的取食特征。我们假定在自由取食和最适非生物条件下饲养的后代将不会受到食物和气温的间接影响,不管亲本属于哪一生态气候区,后代利用食物的能力一致。【结果】然而,我们发现,尽管在最适条件下饲养,银胶菊叶甲后代的体型和取食特征与其亲本相似。体型大的亲本(来自Kathmandu地区),其后代体型也大,但是其食物利用效率比体型小的亲本(来自Chitwan和Mahendranagar地区)所产后代小。这3个生态气候区中,与幼虫相比正在发育的雌成虫均表现出体重增加而食物利用效率降低。【结论】这些发现说明,食物和最适非生物条件的间接影响可能不影响银胶菊叶甲后代的表型可塑性,后代的体型和取食特征与亲本相似。发生的可遗传的变化可能是由于种内的遗传多样性。我们期望这些发现有助于理解气候变化背景下银胶菊叶甲成虫的表型可塑性、分布格局和取食行为。

Antimicrobial Activity of Seeds and Leaves of Myristica fragrans against Multi-resistant Microorganisms

Myristicafragrans, known as nutmeg, is used in food applications. In traditional medicines, the seeds and leaves are used to treat skin, respiratory and gastrointestinal diseases. Limited antibacterial activity has been reported for this plant. The present study aimed to screen the decoction and methanolic extracts of the seeds and leaves of M. fragrans against Staphylococcus aureus NCTC 6571, five strains of methicillin-resistant S. aureus （MRSA）, Pseudomonas aeruginosa NCTC 10662, Escherichia coli NCTC 10418, as well as essential oils from both parts against a panel of resistant bacteria and Candida spp. in order to identify potential antimicrobial activity. Antimicrobial activity was evaluated using well （well diameter： 12 mm） and disc diffusion methods （disc diameter： 6 mm）. The decoction and methanolic extract of leaves and methanolic extract of seeds ofM. fragrans showed inhibitory activity against S. aureus and all five MRSA strains with zones of inhibition （ZOI） = 16.0 ± 0.0 mm to 19.0 ± 0.0 mm. The decoction and methanolic extract of both parts did not show inhibitory activity against E. coli and P. aeruginosa. However, both essential oils showed inhibitory activity against S. aureus and the five MRSA strains, as well as E. coli （ZOI = 9-15 mm）. The essential oils from seed showed activity against all tested multi-resistant bacteria （ZOI = 7-12 mm）. The essential oils from leaves showed activity against Klebsiella pnemoniae, Acinetobacter spp., Enterobacter cloacae and group A beta-haemolytic streptococcus （ZOI = 8-12 mm）. The essential oils showed inhibitory activity against all tested Candida species （ZOI = 8-15 mm）. The decoction, methanolic extract and essential oils of leaves have potential activity against sensitive and resistant S. aureus. This is the first report of inhibition of multi-resistant bacteria and Candida spp. by the essential oils of leaves and seeds of M. fragrans which could be utilized for pharmaceutical applications.

Background: siddha system is one of the ancient medical systems which originated in Indiamore than 4000 years ago had given many formularies and treatment methods for variousdiseases especially skin diseases and autoimmune diseases. One of the most well-knownmembers of the Fabaceae family and a popular medicinal plant is Athimathuram(Glycyrrhiza glabra). Glycyrrhiza glabra root powder (Athimathuram chooranam) fromsiddha herbal formulation mentioned in the texts to treat vitiligo. The study is aimed toexecute the In Silico computational studies of phytoconstituents of siddha herbAthimathuram chooranam (Glycyrrhiza glabra) against Tyrosinase enzyme for the treatmentof vitiligo. Method: Making use of Auto Dock 4, docking calculations were *** partial charges were applied to the ligand atoms. In order to simulate docking, theSolis & Wets local search approach and the Lamarckian genetic algorithm were *** ligand molecules’ initial locations, orientations, and torsion angles were determined atrandom. During docking, all rotatable torsions were freed. Results: By interacting withamino acids located on the active site of the tyrosinase enzyme, bioactive substances likeGlycyrrhizin, Liquirtin, Glabridin, Umbelliferone, and Glabrene included in the siddhaformulation exhibit substantial binding activity against the target protein. Conclusion: Itwas concluded that these compounds might exert promising anti-vitiligo properties.

Objective： To assess the knowledge, attitude, perception and practice of Ayurveda, yoga, Unani, siddha, homeopathy and naturopathy （AYUSH） among allopathic doctors and interns and determine their opin- ion regarding integration of AYUSH education within the allopathic curriculum. Methods： This prospective, cross sectional study was conducted in a tertiary care teaching Hospital, New Delhi, India, from March 2016 to March 2017. A survey of 500 aUopathic doctors and 150 interns was performed using a structured questionnaire. Results： A majority of doctors （95.2%） were aware of the term AYUSH and had knowledge of yoga （70.6%）, homeopathy （55.6%）, Ayurveda （50.3%）, siddha （47.8%）, naturopathy （32.9%） and Unani （28.9%）. Most of the participants （63.0%） felt that therapies under AYUSH are effective. A majority （84.0%） of the doctors were of the view that more research is required in the field of AYUSH. While homeopathy （44.0%） was the most common system used by doctors for themselves, yoga was the therapy most commonly （60.0%） recommended to patients. Nearly half of the doctors （46.7%） recommended AYUSH to their patients, mainly for chronic illness （74.0%）. A majority （77.5%） of the respondents agreed that students of allopathic med- icine should be familiarized with AYUSH. The modes of incorporation of AYUSH into the medical curriculum most commonly suggested by respondents were optional courses （54.5%） and introductory lectures （42.3%）. Conclusion： Doctors and interns ofallopathic medicine are aware of AYUSH systems. They use it for them- selves and recommend it to patients. They believe that familiarization of Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery students with AYUSH therapies and their integration with allopathic medicine may help in improving patient care.

The present market for herbal drugs is estimated about ?40 billion, which is expected to increase by 16% in next 3-4 years. The current production of many Ayurvedic herbs is less than their market demand, which incentivizes adulteration in the Ayurvedic drug supply chain. The present work aims to highlight the most used Ayurvedic plants that have been listed in the International Union for Conservation of Nature's "red list" of endangered or vulnerable plants. The future of Ayurvedic medicines from these listed plants is uncertain, as the collection of herbs from their natural habitat is prohibited and their cultivation does not meet market demands. Many of these plants, such as Taxus baccata and T. wallichiana, are endangered and are only grown in their natural habitats;their cultivation in other areas is impractical. This is the present state, and will worsen as demand continues to grow, with increasing populations and increasing adoption of this system of medicine. It is possible that in coming years most of the Ayurvedic drugs will be adulterated, and will cause only side effects rather than the therapeutic effects. The Ayurvedic fundamentals are under-explored areas where the Ayurvedic practitioners and research scientists can work together. The scientific work on the basic principles will unravel many unknown or little-known facts of this ancient science. Hence, the present review emphasizes the conservation of Ayurvedic herbs, minimization of the use of medicinal plants and the promotion of the research based on Ayurvedic fundamentals.

Evidence based validation of the ethno-pharmacological claims on traditional medicine(TM) is the need of the day for its globalization and reinforcement. Combining the unique features of identifying biomarkers that are highly conserved across species, this can offer an innovative approach to biomarker-driven drug discovery and development. TMs are an integral component of alternative health care systems. India has a rich wealth of TMs and the potential to accept the challenge to meet the global demand for them. Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, siddha and Homeopathy(AYUSH) medicine are the major healthcare systems in Indian Traditional Medicine. The plant species mentioned in the ancient texts of these systems may be explored with the modern scientific approaches for better leads in the healthcare. TM is the best sources of chemical diversity for finding new drugs and leads. Authentication and scientific validation of medicinal plant is a fundamental requirement of industry and other organizations dealing with herbal drugs. Quality control(QC) of botanicals, validated processes of manufacturing, customer awareness and post marketing surveillance are the key points, which could ensure the quality, safety and efficacy of TM. For globalization of TM, there is a need for harmonization with respect to its chemical and metabolite profiling, standardization, QC, scientific validation,documentation and regulatory aspects of TM. Therefore, the utmost attention is necessary for the promotion and development of TM through global collaboration and co-ordination by national and international programme.
