Based on the homotopy analysis method, a general analytic technique for strongly nonlinear problems, a Maple package of automated derivation （ADHO） for periodic nonlinear oscillation systems is presented. This Maple package is valid for periodic oscillation systems in rather general, and can automatically deliver the accurate approximations of the frequency co and the mean of motion δof a nonlinear periodic oscillator. Based on the homotopy analysis method which is valid even for highly nonlinear problems, this Maple package can give accurate approximate expressions even for nonlinear oscillation systems with strong nonlinearity. Besides, the package is user-friendly： One just needs to input a governing equation and initial conditions, and then gets satisfied analytic approximations in few seconds. Several different types of examples are given in this paper to illustrate the validity of this Maple package. Effect of Langmuir circulation （LC） on upper ocean mixing is investigated by a two-way wave-current coupled model. The model is coupled of the ocean circulation model ROMS （regional ocean modeling system） to the surface wave model SWAN （simulating waves nearshore） via the model-coupling toolkit. The LC already certified its importance by many one-dimensional （1D） research and mechanism analysis work. This work focuses on inducing LC＇s effect in a three-dimensional （3-D） model and applying it to real field modeling. In ROMS, the Mellor-Yamada turbulence closure mixing scheme is modified by including LC＇s effect. The SWAN imports bathymetry, free surface and current information from the ROMS while exports signifi- cant wave parameters to the ROMS for Stokes wave computing every 6 s. This coupled model is applied to the South China Sea （SCS） during September 2008 cruise. The results show that LC increasing turbulence and deepening mixed layer depth （MLD） at order of O （10 m） in most of the areas, especially in the north part of SCS where most of our measurements operated. The coupled model further includes wave break- ing which will brings more energy into water. When LC works together with wave breaking, more energy is transferred into deep layer and accelerates the MLD deepening. In the north part of the SCS, their effects are more obvious. This is consistent with big wind event in the area of the Zhujiang River Delta. The shallow water depth as another reason makes them easy to influence the ocean mixing as well.

On the basis of the regional ocean modeling system （ROMS）, the seasonal variations of the thermocline in the South China Sea （SCS） were numerically investigated. The simulated hydrodynamics are in accordance with previous studies： the circulation pattern in the SCS is cyclonic in winter and anticyclonic in summer, and such a change is mostly driven by the monsoon winds. The errors between the modeled temperature profiles and the observations obtained by cruises are quite small in the upper layers of the ocean, indicating that the ocean status is reasonably simulated. On the basis of the shapes of the vertical temperature profiles, five thermocline types （shallow thermocline, deep thermocline, hybrid thermocline, double thermocline, and multiple thermocline） are defined herein. In winter, when the northeasterly monsoon prevails, most shallow shelf seas in the northwest of the SCS are well mixed, and there is no obvious thermocline. The deep region generally has a deep thermocline, and the hybrid or double thermocline often occurs in the areas near the cold eddy in the south of the SCS. In summer, when the southwesterly monsoon prevails, the shelf sea area with a shallow thermocline greatly expands. The distribution of different thermocline types shows a relationship with ocean bathymetry： from shallow to deep waters, the thermocline types generally change from shallow or hybrid to deep thermocline, and the double or multiple thermocline usually occurs in the steep regions. The seasonal variations of the three major thermocline characteristics （the upper bound depth, thickness, and intensity） are also discussed. Since the SCS is also an area where tropical cyclones frequently occur, the response of thermocline to a typhoon process in a short time scale is also analyzed.

A consistent tanh expansion(CTE) method is used to study the modified Boussinesq equation. It i proved that the modified Boussinesq equation is CTE solvable. The soliton-cnoidal periodic wave is explicitly given by a nonanto-BT theorem. Furthermore, the nonlocal symmetry for the modified Boussinesq equation is obtained by th Painlev′e analysis. The nonlocal symmetry is localized to the Lie point symmetry by introducing one auxiliary dependen variable. The finite symmetry transformation related with the nonlocal symemtry is obtained by solving the initia value problem of the prolonged systems. Thanks to the localization process, many interaction solutions among soliton and other complicated waves are computed through similarity reductions. Some special concrete soliton-cnoidal wav interaction behaviors are studied both in analytical and graphical ways.

Observations were made on one eye from a Longman’s beaked whale Indopacetus pacificus, which was probably one of the least known extant cetaceans. The whale died shortly after swimming aground on the coast in the Nishikata Beach, Sendai-shi, Kagoshima-ken Prefecture, Japan, on July 26, 2002. It was a mature female with body length 6.45 m. This paper documented the basic structural characteristics of her visual organ of the whale in order to better understand this animal.

Dynamic mutations of simple sequence repeats （SSRs） have been demonstrated to affect normal gene function and cause different genetic disorders. Several conserved and even partial functional SSR patterns are discovered in inherited orthologous disease genes. To explore a wide range of SSRs in genetic diseases, a comprehensive system focusing on identifying orthologous SSRs of disease genes through a comparative genomics mechanism is constructed and accomplished by adopting online Mendelian inheritance in man （OMIM） and NCBI HomoloGene databases as the fundamental resources of human genetic diseases and homologous gene information. In addition, an efficient and effective algorithm for searching SSR patterns is also developed for providing annotated SSR information among various model species. By integrating these data resources and mining technologies, biologists and doctors can systematically retrieve novel and important conserved SSR information among orthologous disease genes. The proposed system, Orthologous SSR for Disease Genes （OSDG）, is the first comprehensive framework for identifying orthologous SSRs as potential causative factors of genetic disorders and is freely available at http：//***/.

Ionospheric disturbance analysis of the January 15,2022 Tonga eruption based on GPS data

Hunga Tonga-Hunga Ha’apai climactic eruption on January 15,2022,released enormous energy that affected the ionosphere over the Pacific *** analyzed ionospheric disturbance following volcanic eruptions using near-field(<1000 km),regional(1000–5000 km),and far-field(5000–12000 km) global positioning system(GPS) *** results indicate that the near-field ionospheric perturbation that occurred 8–15 min after the cataclysmic eruption was mainly derived from the shock wave(~1000 m/s) generated by the blast,while the low-frequency branch with long-distance propagation characteristics over the regional and the far-field was mainly associated with atmospheric Lamb waves(~330 m/s).Moreover,the amplitude of disturbance and background total electron content(TEC) are related *** intensity of the volcanic eruption and the background ionospheric conditions determine the magnitude of ionospheric *** perturbations were invisible on the reference ***,the source location and onset time were calculated using the ray tracing technique,which confirms that the Tonga event triggered the ionospheric anomaly beyond the ***,the change in the frequency of the perturbations coincided with the arrival of the initial tsunami,implying the generation of a meteotsunami.

Validation and intercomparison of HY-2A/MetOp-A/oceansat-2 scatterometer wind products

Sea surface winds are of great significance in scientific research. In the last few years,three series of scatterometers were launched to measure these winds,including the Advanced Scatterometer(ASCAT) aboard Meteorological Operational Satellite A(Met Op-A) and Met Op-B,oceansat-2 Scatterometer(OSCAT),and HY-2A Scatterometer(HY-2A SCAT). Based on buoy wind data,validation and intercomparison of these scatterometers were performed. Scatterometer-derived wind and buoy wind data were collected only if the spatial difference was less than 0.1 degree and temporal difference less than 5 min. After discarding wind direction data outside five times the standard deviation,ASCAT wind products showed high accuracy in both wind speed and direction,with root-mean-square error(RMSE) 0.86 m/s and 17.97 degrees,respectively. HY-2A SCAT nearly meets the mission requirement,with RMSE for wind speed 1.23 m/s and 22.85 degrees for wind direction. OSCAT had poor performance when compared with the others. RMSE for wind speed was 1.54 m/s and 39.86 degrees for wind direction,which greatly exceeds the mission requirement of 20 degrees. In addition,the RMSE for wind direction shows a high-low pattern on buoy wind speed. However,a wind speed range from 14 to 15 m/s was found to be abnormal,and the reason remains unclear. There was no systematic dependency of both wind speed and direction residuals on buoy wind speed and cross-track location of the wind vector cells across the entire range. No seasonal variation was found for any scatterometer.

This study examines a Kuroshio main path(KMP) cut-off event east of Taiwan Island occurred in fall-winter2013–2014 and its impacts on the South China Sea(SCS) by analyzing satellite altimetry and mooring observations. Satellite altimeter sea level anomaly(SLA) images reveal a complete process that a huge cyclonic eddy(CE) from the Pacific collided with the Kuroshio and the western boundary from 15 October 2013 to 15 January 2014. Mooring observations evidenced that the Kuroshio upper ocean volume transport was cut off more than 82% from 17×106 m^3/s in September to 3×106 m^3/s in November 2013. The KMP cut-off event caused the Kuroshio branching and intruding into the SCS and strengthened the eddy kinetic energy in the northern SCS west of the Luzon Strait. Using the total momentum as a dynamic criterion to determine the role of eddy collision with the Kuroshio reasonably explains the KMP cut-off event.
