Populations in Southern China (Bai-yue) and Borneo (Bidayuh) with high incidence of nasopharyngeal cancer (NPC) share similar mitochondrial DNA signatures, supporting the hypothesis that these two populations may share the same genetic predisposition for NPC, which may have first appeared in a common ancestral reference population before the sea levels rose after the last ice age.

Pseudoxantoma elasticum is a rare, hereditary, multisystemic disease affecting the skin, eye, and cardiovascular system. A twenty-eight-year-old female has presented to emergency unit with the complaint of gastrointestinal hemorrhage. This patient, who had been monitored in the gastroenterology clinic more than 10 times in the past 8 years, noted a repetitive hemorrhage during her previous pregnancy in her history. The examination of the patient revealed the following signs and symptoms： atrophy in the epithelium of the retina pigment; typical angioid streaks and peau d＇orange finding in the fundus; thinning of the retinal nerve fiber in OCT （optic coherence tomography）; bilateral and reticular papillary lesions with yellowish- color in the neck region （plucked chicken appearance）; presence of bleeding loci in fundus, and nephrocalcinosis in kidneys. In light of these symptoms, the patient was diagnosed with pseudoxantoma elasticum. Skin biopsy confirmed the pseudoxantoma elasticum diagnose. PXE is an uncommon, hereditary disease. Early diagnosis of pseudoxantoma elasticum cases, is important for minimalizing systemic complications and informing the other family members through genetic counseling.

Arabidopsis trichomes are large branched single cells that protrude from the epidermis. The first mor- phological indication of trichome development is an increase in nuclear content resulting from an initial cycle of endoreduplication. Our previous study has shown that the C2H2 zinc finger protein GLABROUS INFLORESCENCE STEMS (GIS) is required for trichome initiation in the inflorescence organ and for trichome branching in response to gibberellic acid signaling, although GIS gene does not play a direct role in regulating trichome cell division. Here, we describe a novel role of GIS, controlling trichome cell division indirectly by interacting genetically with a key endoreduplication regulator SIAMESE (SIM). Our molecular and genetic studies have shown that GIS might indireclty control cell division and trichome branching by acting downstream of SIM. A loss of function mutation of SIM signficantly reduced the expression of GIS. Futhermore, the overexpression of GIS rescued the trichome cluster cell phenotypes of sim mutant. The gain or loss of function of GIS had no significant effect on the expression of SIM. These results suggest that GIS may play an indirect role in regulating trichome cell division by genetically interacting with SIM.

Drag Optimization of A Planing Vessel Based on the Stability Criteria Limits

One of the important phases of designing a craft is stability analysis and optimization of the drag force in cruise speed. In this research the longitudinal and lateral stability of a planing hull craft (DTMB 62 model 4667-1) is investigated with some semi-empirical formulae and the effects of some important design parameters are investigated on the limit of stability region. Also on the basis of these empirical formulations and by using a genetic algorithm the drag force is optimized in each constant cruise speed with the stability criteria limits at a constant beam or projected area. Aspect ratio, the longitudinal position of the gravity center and deadrise angle are the optimization parameters. The results show that the aspect ratio and the longitudinal position of the gravity center are two important parameters in optimizing the drag force and for this planing vessel the drag force can be reduced by 22%.

Metakaolin is a highly reactive pozzolanic material that is widely utilized for enhancing the performance of *** study offers a framework for the mixture design of sustainable metakaolin-modified concrete with low CO_(2)emissions and low *** design strengths after 28 days are first formulated,with values such as 30,40,50,and 60 MPa.A genetic algorithm is then used to determine the optimal *** CO_(2)and cost are set as the aims of the genetic *** strength of the concrete,its workability(slump),and carbonation service life with climate change are set as constraints of the genetic *** design cases are considered:1)low-CO_(2)concrete with no carbonation,2)low-CO_(2)concrete with carbonation,3)low-material cost concrete with carbonation,4)low-total cost concrete with carbonation,and 5)low-total cost concrete with climate *** on the analysis,the following results are found:1)When the design’s strength is 30 MPa,to satisfy the requirement of carbonation durability,the concrete real strength should exceed 30 ***,after considering climate change,the concrete real strength should be further improved.2)When the design strength is 40,50,or 60 MPa for low-total-cost concrete,climate change has no impact on the optimal design because the concrete has sufficient carbonation resistance.3)Low-material-cost concrete has the same mixture as low-total-cost concrete because compared with the material cost,the CO_(2)emission cost is much ***,for low-material-cost or low-total-cost concrete,the metakaolin content is at the lower limit because the price of metakaolin is much higher than that of ***,the proposed model covered different aspects of sustainable concrete,such as cost and CO_(2)emissions,clarified various decisive factors of mix design,such as strength and carbon durability,and considered different conditions of climate change,such as no climate change and Representative Concentra

We develop a multi-objective model in a multi-product inventory *** proposed model is a joint replenishment problem(JRP) that has two objective *** first one is minimization of total ordering and inventory holding costs,which is the same objective function as the classic *** increase the applicability of the proposed model,we suppose that transportation cost is independent of time,is not a part of holding cost,and is calculated based on the maximum of stored inventory,as is the case in many real inventory ***,the second objective function is minimization of total transportation *** solve this problem three efficient algorithms are ***,the RAND algorithm,called the best heuristic algorithm for solving the JRP,is modified to be applicable for the proposed problem.A multi-objective genetic algorithm(MOGA) is developed as the second algorithm to solve the ***,the model is solved by a new algorithm that is a combination of the RAND algorithm and *** performances of these algorithms are then compared with those of the previous approaches and with each other,and the findings imply their ability in finding Pareto optimal solutions to 3200 randomly produced problems.

Trajectory Tracking of a Planer Parallel Manipulator by Using Computed Force Control Method

Despite small workspace, parallel manipulators have some advantages over their serial counterparts in terms of higher speed, acceleration, rigidity, accuracy, manufacturing cost and payload. Accordingly, this type of manipulators can be used in many applications such as in high-speed machine tools, tuning machine for feeding, sensitive cutting, assembly and packaging. This paper presents a special type of planar parallel manipulator with three degrees of freedom. It is constructed as a variable geometry truss generally known planar Stewart platform. The reachable and orientation workspaces are obtained for this manipulator. The inverse kinematic analysis is solved for the trajectory tracking according to the redundancy and joint limit avoidance. Then, the dynamics model of the manipulator is established by using Virtual Work method. The simulations are performed to follow the given planar trajectories by using the dynamic equations of the variable geometry truss manipulator and computed force control method. In computed force control method, the feedback gain matrices for PD control are tuned with fixed matrices by trail end error and variable ones by means of optimization with genetic algorithm.

It is becoming increasingly difficult for Chinese citizens to access traditional public transport because of overcrowded community structures. Therefore, novel ideas are required to improve the transport system. In this respect, this study considers the design of a public transport scheduling model for a micro system. The model aims to minimize passenger waiting time and maximize number of passengers one bus carries, by simultaneously optimizing departure intervals and use of traditional and rapid buses. The model is superior to traditional models, as it analyzes the phenomena of vehicle overtaking, vehicle capacity limit, and passenger determination uncertainty. In addition, the model is a sophisticated nonlinear multi-objective optimization problem and contains more than one type of decision variable, therefore two composite algorithms, HPSO and GAPSO, are proposed, which are improvements of the genetic Algorithm （GA） and Particle Swarm Optimization （PSO）. These two algorithms are compared to the classical GA with respect to stability and effect, and the results show them to be strong in both respects. In addition, the simultaneous optimization method has evident advantages compared to single-method optimizations.
