We are concerned with the maximization of tr（V T AV）/tr（V T BV）＋tr（V T CV） over the Stiefel manifold {V ∈ R m×l ｜ V T V = Il} （l 〈 m）, where B is a given symmetric and positive definite matrix, A and C are symmetric matrices, and tr（. ） is the trace of a square matrix. This is a subspace version of the maximization problem studied in Zhang （2013）, which arises from real-world applications in, for example, the downlink of a multi-user MIMO system and the sparse Fisher discriminant analysis in pattern recognition. We establish necessary conditions for both the local and global maximizers and connect the problem with a nonlinear extreme eigenvalue problem. The necessary condition for the global maximizers offers deep insights into the problem, on the one hand, and, on the other hand, naturally leads to a self-consistent-field （SCF） iteration to be presented and analyzed in detail in Part II of this paper.

We investigate the problem of function projective synchronization （FPS） in drive–response dynamical networks with non-identical nodes. An adaptive controller is proposed for the FPS of complex dynamical networks with uncertain parameters and disturbance. Not only are the unknown parameters of the networks estimated by the adaptive laws obtained from the Lyapunov stability theory and Taylor expansions, but the unknown bounded disturbances are also simultaneously conquered by the proposed control. Finally, a numerical simulation is provided to illustrate the feasibility and effectiveness of the obtained result.

In this article, we consider the partially observed optimal control problem for forward-backward stochastic systems with Markovian regime switching. A stochastic maximum principle for optimal control is developed using a variational method and filtering technique. Our theoretical results are applied to the motivating example of the risk minimization for portfolio selection.

By finding a parabola solution connecting two equilibrium points of a planar dynamical system, the existence of the kink wave solution for 6 classes of nonlinear wave equations is shown. Some exact explicit parametric representations of kink wave solutions are given. Explicit parameter conditions to guarantee the existence of kink wave solutions are determined.

In this paper, a novel adaptive control approach is presented to simultaneously achieve synchronization and antisynchronization in partially linear chaotic systems. Through appropriately separating state vectors of such systems, synchronization and anti-synchronization could be simultaneously realized in different subspaces, which may be strictly proven theoretically. Simulation results for a Lorenz chaotic system and a new hyper-chaotic system are provided to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method. Finally, a new secure communication scheme based on such a synchronization phenomenon of the hyper-chaotic system is demonstrated. Numerical results show success in transmitting a periodic signal with high security.

The （n,f, k）： F（G） system consists ofn components and the system fails （works） if and only if there are at least flailed （working） components or at least k consecutive failed （working） components. These system models can be used in electronic equipment, automatic payment systems in banks, and furnace systems. In this paper we introduce and study the （n, f, k）：F and （n, f, k）： G systems consisting of weighted components. Recursive equations are presented for reliability evaluation of these new models. We also provide some conditions on the weights to represent weighted-（n,f, k） systems as usual （n,f, k） systems.

This article presents a general form of the estimator for identifying dispersion effects from unreplicated two-level factorial experiments,and shows that the widely used estimators such as the BH,MH,and AMH estimators are all special cases of the proposed one,designated as the G *** unbiased condition of the G estimator is proved,and a lower bound of variance of the G estimator is provided.A simulation based on a realistic design illustrates the variation of the variance and MSE(mean square error) of the G estimator on different *** estimator may be more flexible and has better performance than other methods such as the BH and MH estimators by appropriately selecting the coefficients.
