Cancer and Covid-19 in the department of internal medicine and medical oncology at the National Teaching Hospital Hubert Koutoukou Maga of Cotonou, about 4 Cases: A Review of the Literature

Coronavirus Disease-19 (COVID-19) manifests itself by a respiratory attack that can go from mild to severe forms. The factors favoring the severe forms are age, arterial hypertension, diabetes mellitus, and cancer. We report 4 cases of COVID-19 on cancer, followed in the department of internal medicine and medical oncology of National Teaching Hospital Center Hubert Kougougou Maga (NTHC-HKM). Case 1: A hypertensive 65-year-old female patient with a severe form of COVID-19 on an FIGO (International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics) IVB endometrioid adenocarcinoma with pulmonary metastasis: unfavorable evolution under treatment with death. Case 2: A 56-year-old hypertensive patient with severe COVID-19 with pulmonary metastatic recurrence of SBRIII, HER2 positive invasive ductal carcinoma of the left breast: favorable evolution with cure of COVID-19, subsequent death related to active tumor. Case 3: A 37-year-old patient with a moderate form of COVID-19 with hepatocellular carcinoma complicating post alcoholic cirrhosis, CHILD C: favorable evolution with cure of COVID-19, patient lost to follow-up. Case 4: A 56-year-old patient, hypertensive, type II diabetic, presenting a severe form of COVID-19 on a field of ovarian serous adenocarcinoma of high grade FIGO IV A with pleuropulmonary metastasis: favorable evolution with cure of COVID-19, subsequent stroke, patient followed in palliative home hospitalization. The diagnosis of COVID-19 in cancer with pulmonary metastases is difficult. The pulmonary location of tumors seems to be a factor favoring severe forms.

This article reviews the study,“Fanlian huazhuo formula alleviates high-fat-dietinduced nonalcoholic fatty liver disease by modulating autophagy and lipid synthesis signaling pathway”published in the World Journal of *** study explores the therapeutic potential of Fanlian Huazhuo formula(FLHZF)in treating metabolic-associated steatotic liver disease(MASLD),demonstrating that FLHZF reduces lipid accumulation,oxidative stress,and liver injury in MASLD models by modulating key signaling pathways involved in lipid metabolism and *** editorial emphasizes the potential of FLHZF as a treatment for MASLD and calls for further research to verify its clinical efficacy.

Cohort study on the treatment of BRAF V600E mutant metastatic colorectal cancer with integrated Chinese and western medicine

BACKGROUND Patients with BRAF V600E mutant metastatic colorectal cancer(mCRC)have a low incidence rate,poor biological activity,suboptimal response to conventional treatments,and a poor *** the previous cohort study on mCRC conducted by our team,it was observed that integrated Chinese and Western medicine treatment could significantly prolong the overall survival(OS)of patients with colorectal ***,we further explored the survival benefits in the population with BRAF V600E mutant *** To evaluate the efficacy of integrated Chinese and Western medicine in the treatment of BRAF V600E mutant metastatic colorectal *** A cohort study was conducted on patients with BRAF V600E mutant metastatic colorectal cancer admitted to Xiyuan Hospital of China Academy of Chinese medical Sciences and Traditional Chinese medicine Hospital of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region from January 2016 to December *** patients were divided into two *** A total of 34 cases were included,with 23 in Chinese-Western medicine cohort(cohort A)and 11 in Western medicine cohort(cohort B).The median overall survival was 19.9 months in cohort A and 14.2 months in cohort B,with a statistically significant difference(P=0.038,hazard ratio=0.46).The 1-3-year survival rates were 95.65%(22/23),39.13%(9/23),and 26.09%(6/23)in cohort A,and 63.64%(7/11),18.18%(2/11),and 9.09%(1/11)in cohort B,*** analysis showed statistically significant differences in median OS between the two cohorts in the right colon,liver metastasis,chemotherapy,and first-line treatment subgroups(Pmedicine can prolong the survival and reduce the risk of death in patients with BRAF V600E mutant metastatic colorectal cancer,with more pronounced benefits observed in patients with right colon involvement,liver metastasis,combined chemotherapy,and first-line treatment.

Improving postoperative outcomes in patients with pancreatic cancer:Inflammatory and nutritional biomarkers

This editorial assesses the prognostic value of preoperative inflammatory and nutritional biomarkers in patients undergoing surgical resection for pancreatic *** et al evaluated the ability of seven biomarkers to predict postoperative recovery and long-term *** biomarkers were albumin-to-globulin ratio,prognostic nutritional index(PNI),systemic immune-inflammation index,neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio,platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio,nutritional risk index,and geriatric nutritional risk *** PNI was found to be a strong predictor of both overall and recurrence-free survival,underscoring its clinical relevance in managing patients with pancreatic cancer.

BACKGROUND Cytomegalovirus(CMV)infections can cause significant morbidity and mortality in immunocompromised *** targets dysfunctional *** rituximab(RTX)therapy can cause B-lymphocyte dysfunction,increasing CMV ***,CMV infections present with critical illness such as septic *** SUMMARY A 64-year-old African American woman presented with generalized weakness and non-bloody watery diarrhea of 4-6 weeks *** did not have nausea,vomiting or,abdominal *** had been on monthly RTX infusions for neuromyelitis *** was admitted for septic shock due to *** investigations suggested pancytopenia and serology detected significantly elevated CMV *** treatment led to disease *** This case illustrates an extremely rare case of CMV colitis associated with RTX use presenting with septic *** suspicion for rare opportunistic infections is imperative in individuals with long-term RTX use.

This editorial examines a recent study that used radiomics based on computed tomography(CT)to predict the expression of the fibroblast-related gene enhancer of zeste homolog 2(EZH2)and its correlation with the survival of patients with hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC).By integrating radiomics with molecular analysis,the study presented a strategy for accurately predicting the expression of EZH2 from CT *** findings demonstrated a strong link between the radiomics model,EZH2 expression,and patient *** noninvasive approach provides valuable insights into the therapeutic management of HCC.

Reperfusion following cerebral ischemia causes both structural and functional damage to brain tissue and could aggravate a patient's condition;this phenomenon is known as cerebral ischemia-reperfusion *** studies have elucidated the neuroprotective role of the sirtuin protein family(Sirtuins)in modulating cerebral ischemia-reperfusion ***,the potential of utilizing it as a novel intervention target to influence the prognosis of cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury requires additional *** this review,the origin and research progress of Sirtuins are summarized,suggesting the involvement of Sirtuins in diverse mechanisms that affect cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury,including inflammation,oxidative stress,blood-brain barrier damage,apoptosis,pyroptosis,and *** therapeutic avenues related to Sirtuins that may improve the prognosis of cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury were also investigated by modulating Sirtuins expression and affecting representative pathways,such as nuclear factor-kappa B signaling,oxidative stress mediated by adenosine monophosphate-activated protein kinase,and the forkhead box *** review also summarizes the potential of endogenous substances,such as RNA and hormones,drugs,dietary supplements,and emerging therapies that regulate Sirtuins *** review also reveals that regulating Sirtuins mitigates cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury when combined with other risk *** Sirtuins show promise as a potential target for the treatment of cerebral ischemiareperfusion injury,most recent studies are based on rodent models with circadian rhythms that are distinct from those of humans,potentially influencing the efficacy of Sirtuinstargeting drug ***,this review provides new insights into the role of Sirtuins in the pathology and treatment of cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury.
