Bioactive profile of borno brown Vigna unguiculata grains as influenced by pre-harvest synthetic chemicals

This study investigated the impact of pre-harvest synthetic chemical treatments on the post-harvest bioactive contents,pasting,colour,and thermal properties of borno brown ***(L.)Walp *** of borno brown ***(L.)Walp was planted on an already ploughed,harrowed and ridged plot of land with a portion cultivated as organic and another *** 90 days,mature grains were harvested and analyzed using standard *** showed that a total of 44.33 g bioactive compounds/100g grain was present in the organic borno brown *** grains whereas,20.56 g bioactive compounds/100g grain was present in the non-organic(control).The identified bioactive compounds in the organic grains included[heneicosane(4.50g/100g grain)];[12-Methyl-E,E-2,13-octadecadien-1-ol(4.09/100g grain)];[3-(2-Hydroxy-6-methylphenyl)-4(3H)-quinazolinone(7.40 g/100g grain)];[Methaqualone(9.08 g/100g grain)].The non-organic contained[heneicosane(4.07g/100g grain)];[3-(2-Hydroxy-6-methylphenyl)-4(3H)-quinazolinone(5.09 g/100g grain)];[Methaqualone(10.61 g/100g grain)].Flavonoids,alkaloids,total phenolic,2,2-diphenyl-1-picryl-hydrazl(DPPH)and ferric ion reducing antioxidant power(FRAP)contents of the organic grains were 19 mgRE/100g,3.40 mg/100g,1550 mgGAE/100g,2840μmolTEAC/100g,and 20.08 mmol Fe^(2+)/100g,*** non-organic grains had flavonoids(11.31 mgRE/100g),alkaloids(1.86 mg/100g),total phenolic(1110 mgGAE/100g),DPPH(1779μmolTEAC/100g)and FRAP(12.24 mmol Fe^(2+)/100g).The peak viscosity of 111.52 RVU,final viscosity(141.25 RVU)and pasting temperature(82.01℃)were obtained for the organic grains while non-organic had peak viscosity of 93.10RVU,final viscosity(95.20 RVU)and pasting temperature(80.10℃).The colour parameters L^(*),a^(*),b^(*)and ΔE were 73.10,0.68,14.47 and 12.98 for the organic and 84.25,0.30,21.10,and 0.00,respectively for non-organic *** thermal property showed enthalpy(ΔH)and peak temperature(T_(p))of 3.12 J/g and 78.25℃ f

Application of Natural Antioxidants from Strawberry Tree(Arbutus unedo L.) and Dog Rose(Rosa canina L.) to Frankfurters Subjected to Refrigerated Storage

The effect of the addition of natural antioxidants from strawberry tree （Arbutus unedo L.; AU） and dog rose （Rosa canina L.; RC）, in frankfurters elaborated with or without the addition of antioxidant additives （sodium ascorbate and nitrite） was studied. Six different types of experimental frankfurters were prepared depending on the addition of phenolic-rich extracts from RC and AU and the presence （P） or absence （C） of antioxidant additives. Thiobarbituric acid reactive substances （TBARS）-numbers signiifcantly increased during chilled storage of C-frankfurters while additives and fruit phenolics inhibited lipid oxidation in P-frankfurters. The amount of protein carbonyls signiifcantly increased in all treatments except in P-AU frankfurters. The discoloration process that occurred during the chilled storage was reduced by the addition of substances with proven antioxidant activity （P-frankfurters）. Texture characteristics as hardness, springiness, cohesiveness and gumminess also suffered a signiifcant deterioration in C-frankfurters. The use of phenolic fruit extracts in combination with traditional antioxidant additives is a successful strategy to enhance the oxidative stability of frankfurters without modifying their color and texture properties.

Phase Behavior and Dew Point Pressure of Multicomponent Condensate Gas in Nanopores

Shale gas reservoirs typically contain numerous nanoscale pores,with pore size playing a significant role in influencing the gas *** better understand the related mechanisms,this study employs the Gauge-GEMC molecular simulation method to systematically analyze the effects of various pore sizes(5,10,20,and 40 nm)on the phase behavior and dew point pressure of the shale gas reservoir *** simulation results reveal that when pore sizes are smaller than 40 nm,the dew point pressure increases significantly as the pore size *** instance,the dew point pressure in 5 nmpores is 20.3%higher than undermacroscopic ***,larger hydrocarbon molecules exhibit a tendency to aggregate in smaller pores,particularly in the 5–10 nm range,where the relative concentration of heavy hydrocarbons(C_(4+))increases ***,as the pore size becomes larger,the component distribution gradually aligns with experimental results observed under macroscopic *** study demonstrates that pore effects are more pronounced for smaller sizes,directly influencing the aggregation of heavy hydrocarbons and the rise in dew point *** phenomena could significantly impact the diffusivity of shale gas reservoirs and the recovery of condensate *** findings provide new theoretical insights into phase behavior changes in nanopores,offering valuable guidance for optimizing shale gas reservoir extraction strategies.

This study aimed to develop and characterize biodegradable packaging film from blends of two natural polysaccharides,i.e.,agar and *** glucomannan used was derived from the specific tuber plant Amorphophallus oncophyllus(locally known as“porang”),which grows abundantly in Indonesian forests and remains *** ratios of agar and porang-glucomannan(PG)proportions were formulated to produce a food packaging film,which was subsequently tested for its mechanical,physical,chemical,and thermal *** results showed that the inclusion of PG to the film formulations notably enhanced the stretchability of agar films,achieving maximum a twofold increase,while concurrently reducing their water resistance such as increased water solubility and water swelling for up to 125%and 105%,*** mechanical and thermal properties,as well as the water vapor permeability of the resulting film,were significantly affected by the polymer matrix structure formed by the varying proportions of the two *** enhancement of these properties was associated with a more solid/compact film structure,as corroborated by cross-sectional images obtained through SEM *** study’s findings suggest that utilizing agar and porang biomass has significant potential for further development as an environmentally friendly food packaging material.

Extracellular synthesis of silver nanoparticles by Pseudomonas sp. THG-LS1.4 and their antimicrobial application

Silver nanoparticles（Ag NPs） are known to have bacteriostatic and bactericidal effects. The present study highlights the extracellular synthesis of Ag NPs and its antibacterial properties. The Ag NPs were synthesized using Pseudomonas sp. THG-LS1.4 strain which had been isolated from soil. The Ag NPs were characterized by field emission-transmission electron microscopy（FE-TEM）, X-ray diffraction（XRD）,Fourier transform-infrared（FT-IR） spectroscopy, and particle size distribution（DLS）. The Ag NPs displayed maximum absorbance at 412 nm and were irregular in shape ranging from 10 to 40 nm. The XRD spectroscopy results demonstrated the crystalline nature of nanoparticles. The Ag NPs showed antimicrobial activity against Bacillus cereus, Staphylococcus aureus, Candida tropicalis, Vibrio parahaemolyticus, Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Furthermore, the Ag NPs were also evaluated for their increased antibacterial activities with various antibiotics against Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Salmonella enterica. Additionally, Ag NPs showd biofilm inhibition activity. The biosynthesized Ag NPs were found to be a potent agent against tested pathogens. More importantly, we highlight the applications of Ag NPs as an antimicrobial agent.

Fluid channeling caused by seal failure at the cement sheath-formation interface during fracturing is a severe problem in oil gas *** this study,a novel model was developed to evaluate interface sealing *** model's accuracy was verified based on a self-developed interface seal evaluation device and an ***,the interface seal under different formation conditions was investigated using this *** theoretical calculation showed that for a cement sheath-carbonate formation interface,the channeling of acid-fracturing fluid caused interface seal failure and sustained casing pressure in the annulus space between the technical casing and *** channeling between the fracturing sections occurred at the cement sheathshale formation interface during *** a sandstone formation,the interface seal failure caused the channeling between a water-bearing formation and a sandstone *** at different formation conditions,the mechanical properties requirements of Young's modulus and Poisson's ratio of cement sheath were proposed respectively to ensure its seal *** proposed model and method can be used to evaluate and optimize sealing integrity during fracturing.

Nutritive and Microbiological Quality of Fish Feed Formulated from Local Flours Enriched with Larvaes of Hermetia illucens

In aquaculture, feed represents the main component of production costs, and the development of this sector depends on the development of an economical feed formulation that meets the qualitative and quantitative requirements of fish. The aim of this study was to determine the nutritive and microbiological quality of fish feed formulated from local flours enriched with Hermetia illucens larvae. The raw materials used for formulation were fishmeal, corn meal, low-grade rice, soybean meal and Hermetia illucens larvae meal. Different iso-protein feed compositions were prepared with 0%, 10%, 25%, 35%, 50%, 65%, 75% and 100% incorporation of Hermetia illucens larvae meal as a substitute for fish meal. Biochemical and microbiological analyses of these flours were determined using standard methods. The results showed that incorporation of larvae meal had an influence on the biochemical characteristics ash (8.15 to 20.27%), lipid (11.55 to 24.94%), fiber (13.93 to 20.41%) and dry matter (89.65 to 91.19%) of various formulated feed. Loads of fecal Streptococci, Staphylococci, Aeromonas, yeasts and molds ranged from 2.4 to 4.9 log 10 CFU/g;3.6 to 3.9 log 10 CFU/g;2.2 to 2.7 log 10 CFU/g;2.1 to 2.3 log 10 CFU/g, respectively. The level of contamination of these flours was below the microbiological criteria applicable to animal feed. Feed formulated with 0% and 10% Hermetia illucens larvae showed the best nutritive and microbiological characteristics. These results suggest that flours enriched with Hermetia illucens larvae could be used in fish feed.

Peste des petits ruminants virus (PPRV) antibodies were studied in Sudanese sheep and goats (n = 855) before and after vaccination with a locally produced Nigeria 75/1 vaccine using a commercial competitive ELISA (cELISA) kit. Animals were kept healthy under field conditions, in four states: Blue Nile (n = 250), North Kordofan (n = 189), South Darfur (n = 225) and the Northern State (n = 191). Before vaccination, the overall sero-prevalence of PPRV antibodies was 54.6% (53.2% - 56%, 95% CI);high (64.8% - 76.4%, 95% CI) in Blue Nile State, medium (50.5% - 61.9%, 95% CI) in North Kordofan State and South Darfur State and low (28.6% - 35.2% 95%, CI) in Northern State. In high-risk areas (high sero-prevalence), Blue Nile (70.4%) and North Kordofan (57.7%), middle age groups (7 - 12 and 13 - 18 months) were identified as high-risk age. Middle age groups showed lower sero-prevalence than preceding (3 - 6 months) and subsequent (>18 months) age groups while the risk of exposure increased with age. Current and previous findings suggested a transmission pathway of PPRV involving the South Eastern border (Blue Nile) and neighbouring Central Sudan to North Kordofan. One month after vaccination 88.4% (343/388) of sero-negative animals were sero-converted suggesting the efficacy of the locally produced Nigeria 75/1 vaccine. Even if only individuals in the high-risk age group (7 - 18 months) were vaccinated, the overall population immunity (OPI) in high-risk areas (the Blue Nile and North Kordofan) would have surpassed the threshold of 70%, which is indicated for blocking PPRV transmission. However, lower vaccination coverage is expected in wider vaccination programmes. These findings primarily justified the targeting of PPR control in Sudan through the vaccination of high-risk age groups in high-risk areas.

Experimental investigation into fabrication of microfeatures on titanium by electrochemical micromachining

Titanium machining is one of the challenging tasks to modem machining processes. Especially fabricat- ing microfeatures on titanium appear as a potential research interest. Electrochemical micromachining （EMM） is an effective process to generate microfeatures by anodic dis- solution. Machining of titanium by anodic dissolution is different than other metals because of its tendency to form passive oxide layer. The phenomenon of progression of microfeature by conversion of passive oxide layer into transpassive has been investigated with the help of mask- less EMM technique. Suitable range of machining voltage has been established to attain the controlled anodic disso- lution of titanium by converting passive oxide film of titanium into transpassive with nonaqueous electrolyte. The experimental outcomes revealed that the micromachining of titanium with controlled anodic dissolution could be possible even at lower machining voltage in the range of 6-8 V. This work successfully explored the possibility of generation of microfeatures on commercially pure titanium by anodic dissolution process in microscopic domain by demonstrating successful fabrication of various microfea- tures, such as microholes and microcantilevers.
