On the functions of astrocyte-mediated neuronal slow inward currents

OBJECTIVE: To investigate blood pressure rhythm(BPR)in Yin deficiency syndrome of hypertension(YDSH)patients and develop a random forest model for predicting ***: Our study was consistent with technical processes and specification for developing guidelines of Evidence-based Chinese medicine clinical practice(T/CACM 1032-2017). We enrolled 234 patients who had been diagnosed with primary hypertension without antihypertensive medications prior to the enrollment. All participants were divided into Yin deficiency group(YX, n = 74) and non-Yin deficiency group(NYX, n = 160).Participants were professionally grouped by three experienced chief Traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)physicians according to four examinations(i.e.,inspection, listening and smelling, inquiry and palpation).We collected data on 24 h ambulatory blood pressure monitoring(ABPM) and YDSH rating scale. We divided 24 h of a day into 12 two-hour periods [Chen-Shi(7:00-9:00), Si-Shi(9:00-11:00), Wu-Shi(11:00-13:00), Wei-Shi(13:00-15:00), Shen-Shi(15:00-17:00), You-Shi(17:00-19:00), Xu-Shi(19:00-21:00), Hai-Shi(21:00-23:00), ZiShi(23:00-1:00), Chou-Shi(1:00-3:00), Yin-Shi(3:00-5:00), Mao-Shi(5:00-7:00)] according to the theory of “midnight-midday ebb flow”. We used random forest to build the diagnostic model of YDSH, with whether it was Yin deficiency syndrome as the outcome. RESULTS: Compared with NYX group, YX group had more female participants with older age, lower waist circumference, body mass index(BMI), diastolic blood pressure(DBP), and smoking and drinking rate(all P < 0.05). The YDSH rating scores of YX group [28.5(21.0-36.0)] were significantly higher than NYX group [13.0(8.0-22.0)](P < 0.001), and the typical symptoms of YX group included vexing heat in the chest, palms and soles, dizziness, dry eyes, string-like and fine pulse, soreness and weakness of lumbus and knees, palpitations, reddened cheeks, and tinnitus(all P < 0.05). Efficacy of a Nutritional Cream Intervention to Treat Depression in Rescuers:A Randomized Controlled Trial

Using Pearson’s System of Curves to Approximate the Distributions of the Difference between Two Correlated Estimates of Signal-to-Noise Ratios: The Cases of Bivariate Normal and Bivariate Lognormal Distributions

Background: The signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) is recognized as an index of measurements reproducibility. We derive the maximum likelihood estimators of SNR and discuss confidence interval construction on the difference between two correlated SNRs when the readings are from bivariate normal and bivariate lognormal distribution. We use the Pearsons system of curves to approximate the difference between the two estimates and use the bootstrap methods to validate the approximate distributions of the statistic of interest. Methods: The paper uses the delta method to find the first four central moments, and hence the skewness and kurtosis which are important in the determination of the parameters of the Pearsons distribution. Results: The approach is illustrated in two examples;one from veterinary microbiology and food safety data and the other on data from clinical medicine. We derived the four central moments of the target statistics, together with the bootstrap method to evaluate the parameters of Pearsons distribution. The fitted Pearsons curves of Types I and II were recommended based on the available data. The R-codes are also provided to be readily used by the readers.

Worldwide,as the population age,osteoporosis is becoming increasingly common,and osteoporotic fractures have a significant economic *** women are the most susceptible to developing osteoporosis and the most critical time to prevent it is during the perimenopausal and early menopausal *** this regard,we hypothesize rational combination of acupuncture and Traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)in the form of herbal extract could prevent osteoporosis in *** deficiency during menopause causes low-level inflammation that stimulates the formation of osteoclasts,the boneresorbing cells,and simultaneously inhibits the viability and function of osteoblasts,the bone-forming *** most potent inflammatory cytokine in skeletal homeostasis is the receptor activator of nuclear factor kappa B ligand(RANKL)that stimulates osteoclast ***,the canonical Wnt pathway is essential for osteoblastogenesis and bone formation,and estrogen deficiency leads to diminished functioning of this *** and acupuncture could target the RANKL and the Wnt pathway in favorable ways to prevent the accelerated bone loss experienced during the early menopausal stage and promote the gain in bone mass in postmenopausal *** this review,we propose a rational combination of specific TCM and acupuncture targeting those signaling molecules/pathways by the drugs that are in clinical use for the treatment of postmenopausal *** rational approach revealed that Danshen(Radix Salviae Miltiorrhizae)could exert a synergistic effect with *** then propose a translational path for developing the putative combination in women with postmenopausal osteoporosis to curtail the risk of osteoporotic fractures.

A survey on the real-world clinical utilization of a traditional acupuncture in Republic of Korea: Sa-am acupuncture

Objective: This study investigated the clinical details and usage of Sa-am acupuncture in Korean medicine clinics and explored how practicing Korean medicine doctors(KMDs) think about Sa-am ***: We conducted a questionnaire-based survey of KMDs who utilize Sa-am acupuncture in their practice. The study comprehensively investigated issues related to clinical application of Sa-am acupuncture, needling techniques used during treatment, training methods, and directions for its future ***: We analyzed 572 responses. An average of 50% of the patients visiting Korean medicine clinics were receiving Sa-am acupuncture. The most prevalent indication for Sa-am acupuncture use was digestive disorders. The patients' appetite level and digestive function were most frequently used indicators for selecting acupuncture points. Regarding prescription compositions, Jung-Gyuk formulas were more frequently used than Seung-Gyuk formulas. Inserting the needle along the flow of the channel or against the flow of the channel was most popular. The acupuncture style most frequently used in combination with Sa-am acupuncture was Ashi point acupuncture. Strengths of Sa-am acupuncture included its versatility, easy application, and good outcomes. Limitations included the lack of rigorous education and training programs,difficulty in applying the principles for beginners, and insufficient clinical research ***: In clinics where Sa-am acupuncture is available, KMDs were providing Sa-am acupuncture to about half of their patients. Practitioners were not using all of the tonification and sedation techniques which may be due to time constraints or simply a lack of necessity. Sa-am acupuncture demonstrated high utility in clinical practice and high satisfaction based on the efficacy and safety. More training programs and high-quality research are needed to help expand the use of Sa-am acupuncture.

Huangqin Decoction Delays Progress of Colitis-Associated Carcinogenesis by Regulating Nrf2/HO-1 Antioxidant Signal Pathwayin Mice

Objective:To investigate the effect of Huangqin Decoction(HQD)on nuclear factor erythroid 2 related-factor 2(Nrf2)/heme oxygenase(HO-1)signaling pathway by inducing the colitis-associated carcinogenesis(CAC)model mice with azoxymethane(AOM)/dextran sodium sulfate(DSS).Methods:The chemical components of HQD were analyzed by liquid chromatography-quadrupole-time-of-flight mass spectrometry(LC-Q-TOF-MS/MS)to determine the molecular constituents of *** 48 C57BL/6J mice were randomly divided into 6 groups by a random number table,including control,model(AOM/DSS),mesalazine(MS),low-,medium-,and high-dose HQD(HQD-L,HQD-M,and HQD-H)groups,8 mice in each *** for the control group,the mice in the other groups were intraperitoneally injected with AOM(10 mg/kg)and administrated with 2.5%DSS orally for 1 week every two weeks(totally 3 rounds of DSS)to construct a colitis-associated carcinogenesis mouse *** mice in the HQD-L,HQD-M and HQD-H groups were given HQD by gavage at doses of 2.925,5.85,and 11.7 g/kg,respectively;the mice in the MS group was given a suspension of MS at a dose of 0.043 g/kg(totally 11 weeks).The serum levels of malondialdehyde(MDA)and superoxide dismutase(SOD)were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent *** mRNA and protein expression levels of Nrf2,HO-1,and inhibitory KELCH like ECH-related protein 1(Keap1)in colon tissue were detected by quantitative real-time PCR,immunohistochemistry,and Westem blot,***:LC-Q-TOF-MS/MS analysis revealed that the chemical constituents of HQD include baicalin,paeoniflorin,and glycyrrhizic *** to the control group,significantly higher MDA levels and lower SOD levels were observed in the model group(P<0.05),whereas the expressions of Nrf2 and HO-1 were significantly decreased,and the expression of Keap1 increased(P<0.01).Compared with the model group,serum MDA level was decreased and SOD level was increased in the HQD-M,HQD-H and MS groups(P<0.05).Higher expressions of
