Larvicidal activity of the pericarp extract of Garcinia mangostana against dengue vector Aedes aegypti in Sri Lanka

Objective:To assess the larvicidal activity of mangosteen(Garcinia mangostana)against larval stages of Aedes aegypti ***:A crude extract was prepared in ethanol from powdered mangosteen pericarps.A concentration gradient(0.01-4.92 g/L)was prepared from the stock *** batches of 25 third instar larvae of Aedes aegypti were used for larval *** mortality rates were observed after one and 24 *** and total lipid contents in 20 randomly selected dead larvae at each trial were assessed by colorimetric *** experimental setup was repeated five *** General Linear Model and Probit analysis were used to evaluate the relationship of mortality with cholesterol level,total lipid level and cholesterol to total lipid ***:The percentage mortalities significantly varied with different concentrations(F_(7,32)=385.737;P<0.001).The LC50 and LC99 values were(0.041±0.006)g/L and(10.616±1.758)g/L,respectively after 24 *** was no mortality recorded within the one-hour exposure *** the cholesterol content(F_(5,24)=173.245;P<0.001)in larvae exposed to different concentrations denoted a significantly decreasing trend within 24-hour *** that were exposed to the lowest concentration(0.55 g/L)showed a higher cholesterol level(22.67±1.33)μ***:The Garcinia mangostana extract acts as an effective sterol carrier protein inhibitor that inhibits cholesterol uptake in Aedes aegypti ***,it could be explored for use as a key source for the development of an environment-friendly plant-based larvicide.

Operation Efficiency Optimisation Modelling and Application of Model Predictive Control

The efficiency of any energy system can be charaterised by the relevant efficiency components in terms of performance, operation, equipment and technology(POET). The overall energy efficiency of the system can be optimised by studying the POET energy efficiency components. For an existing energy system, the improvement of operation efficiency will usually be a quick win for energy efficiency. Therefore, operation efficiency improvement will be the main purpose of this paper. General procedures to establish operation efficiency optimisation models are presented. Model predictive control, a popular technique in modern control theory, is applied to solve the obtained energy models. From the case studies in water pumping systems, model predictive control will have a prosperous application in more energy efficiency problems.

Exploitation of Locality for Energy Efficiency for Breadth First Search in Fine-Grain Execution Models

In the upcoming exa-scale era, the exploitation of data locality in parallel programs is very important because it benefits both program performance and energy efficiency. However, this is a hard topic for graph algorithms such as the Breadth First Search （BFS） due to the irregular data access patterns. This study analyzes the exploitation of data locality in the BFS and its impact on the energy efficiency with the Codelet fine-grain dataflow-inspired execution model. The Codelet Model more efficiently exploits data locality than the OpenMP-like execution models which traditionally focus on coarse-grain parallelism inside loops. A BFS algorithm is then given to exploit the locality between two loop iterations that belong to two different loops （inter-loop locality）. This kind of locality can be exploited by the Codelet Model but not by traditional coarse-grain execution models like OpenMR Tests were performed on fsim which is a simulation platform developed by Intel for the Ubiquitous High Performance Computing （UHPC） project to design future exa-scale architectures. The results show that this BFS algorithm saves up to 7% of the dynamic energy for memory accesses compared to a BFS implementation based on OpenMP loop scheduling.

Energy-Based Collaborative Spectrum Sensing for Cognitive UWB Impulse Radio

This paper focuses on the issue of collaborative spectrum sensing in cognitive ultra wideband（CUWB） impulse radio. We employ energy-based signal detection method and apply the Neyman-Pearson（NP） decision rule to determine the optimum threshold. Two cooperative spectrum sensing schemes are developed in this paper. The decision fusion scheme is based on hard decision, in which each cooperating cognitive user（CU） sends its own local decision to the fusion center（FC）. The FC then makes a final decision according to the majority voting rule. Alternatively, the data fusion scheme is based on soft decision, in which each local CU sends its observed value directly to the FC. The FC combines these values, compares to a threshold and then makes the final decision. The performances of both schemes are studied by using analytical tools and computer simulations. The receiver operating characteristics（ROC）, which reveal the probability of detection versus false-alarm curve, are employed to evaluate the system performance under different scenarios. Simulation results demonstrate that the data fusion scheme outperforms the decision fusion scheme and verify that the collaborative spectrum sensing has practical importance in CUWB networks.

The increasing prevalence of diabetes has become a global public health concern in the 21st *** 2021,it was estimated that 537 million people had diabetes,and this number is projected to reach 643 million by 2030,and 783 million by 2045[1].Such a huge burden of diabetes brings great challenges in its prevention and management,including early diagnosis,timely interventions,and regular monitoring of risk factor control and complications *** self-care support and patient empowerment can enhance clinical and psychobehavioural outcomes[2],although these require additional resources including manpower,infrastructure(hard and technology),and *** emergence of digital health technologies(DHTs),especially artificial intelligence(AI),may help address these obstacles and alleviate the burden of diabetes[3].Large language models(LLMs),a generative AI that can accept image and text inputs and produce text outputs,have shown promise in various aspects of medical care.

Toward the Energy Efficiency of Resource Allocation Algorithms for OFDMA Downlink MIMO Systems

The problem of the simultaneous multi-user resource allocation algorithm in orthogonal frequency division multiple access(OFDMA)based systems has recently attracted significant ***,most studies focus on maximizing the system throughput and spectral *** the green radio is essential in 5G and future networks,the energy efficiency becomes the major *** this paper,we develop four resource allocation schemes in the downlink OFDMA network and the main focus is on analyzing the energy efficiency of these ***,we employ the advanced multi-antenna technology in a multiple input-multiple output(MIMO)*** first scheme is based on transmit spatial diversity(TSD),in which the vector channel with the highest gain between the base station(BTS)and specific antenna at the remote terminal(RT)is chosen for *** second scheme further employs spatial multiplexing on the MIMO system to enhance the *** space-division multiple-access(SDMA)scheme assigns single subcarrier simultaneously to RTs with pairwise“nearly orthogonal”spatial *** the fourth scheme,we propose to design the transmit beamformers based on the zero-forcing(ZF)criterion such that the multi-user interference(MUI)is completely *** analyze the tradeoff between the throughput and power consumption and compare the performance of these schemes in terms of the energy efficiency.
