Objective:To assess prevalence and intensity of soil-transmitted helminths(STH) in school age children of two southern districts as baseline information prior to implement a deworming program against intestinal parasites as part of an integrated country development ***:Children randomly selected from urban and rural schools in Southern Belize provided one stool sample each,analysed by the Kato-Katz method to assess prevalence and intensity of STH *** Info software was used for data analysis;Chi-square test and Fischer exact test were applied to compare group proportions;P<0.05 was considered of statistical significance;descriptive statistics were expressed as ***:A total of 500 children from 10 schools participated in the study from May to *** of STH ranged between 40%and 82%among schools,with a median of 59.2%;the majority of light intensity,and with 2.2%high intensity *** and Axaris infections presented similar frequency in children aged from 6 to 9 years old;hookworm infections tended to be more frequent in the older group 10 to 12 years *** significances(P≤0.01)were found in children in rural schools infected with any species of STH,in moderate Trichuris infections,in hookworm infections in rural areas with strong Mayan presence and in Ascaris infections in children of Mayan ***:High prevalence of STH in Southern Belize provided sound ground for implementing an integrated deworming control program.

Objective:To investigate the association between the cluster of differentiation 14(CD14)-I59C/T(rs2569190) gene polymorphism and susceptibility to acute brucellosis in an Iranian ***:The study included 153 Iranian patients with active brucellosis and 128 healthy individuals as the control *** of the CD 14 variant was performed using an amplification refractory mutation system-polymerase chain reaction ***:The prevalence of CD14-159 TT and CT genotypes were associated with increased risk of brucellosis[odds ratio(OR)=l.993.95%confidence interval(95%CD=1.07-3.71.P=0.03 for CT:OR=3.869.95%CI= 1.91-7.84,P=0.01 for TT ***,the minor allele(T) was significantly more frequently present in brucellosis patients than in controls(61%vs.45%.respectively),and was a risk factor for brucellosis(OR=3.058.95%CI= 1.507-6.315.P=0.01).Condusions:The findings provid suggestive evidence of association of the CDI4-159C/T gene polymorphism with susceptibility to acute brucellosis in the Iranian population.

Background Jaundice is a life-threatening disorder in the *** the present study,we aimed to assess systematically available evidence on causes and management of jaundice in Iranian newborn *** We searched the databases of PubMed,Web of Sciences,Scopus and Google Scholar for English articles published since inception until May 2019.A search was also done for Persian articles in Magiran and Scientific Information *** were evaluated based on predefined criteria by two *** analysis was performed by STATA *** A total of 33 articles were finally *** overall pooled prevalence of causes of jaundice among Iranian neonates was as follows:ABO blood groups incompatibility,16.9%[95%confidence interval(CI)10.9-22.8];Rh blood group incompatibility,4%(95%CI 2.5-5.5);ABO and Rh blood groups incompatibility,3.6%(95%CI 0-7.7);glucose6-phosphate dehydrogenase(G6PD)deficiency,6.3%(95%CI 5.1-7.5);infection,6.6%(95%CI 5.2-8.1);hypothyroidism,4.2%(95%CI 0.1-8.3);infant of diabetic mother:2.3%(95%CI 0.1-4.5);unknown,50.7%(95%CI 33.4-68);cephalohematoma,0.6%(95%CI 0.3-0.9).Regarding treatment of icterus,seven and eight articles were found on phototherapy and exchange transfusion,*** five studies,all patients underwent phototherapy,but rate of exchange transfusion use was between 6.6%and 50.9%.Conclusions According to the results,unknown factors were the most common causes of icterus in Iranian neonates,followed by ABO blood groups incompatibility,infections and G6PD *** the way,phototherapy and exchange transfusion were found as therapeutic choices of neonatal jaundice.

Two novel bocaparvovirus species identified in wild Himalayan marmots

Bocaparvovirus(BOV) is a genetically diverse group of DNA viruses and a possible cause of respiratory, enteric, and neurological diseases in humans and animals. Here, two highly divergent BOVs(tentatively named as Himalayan marmot BOV,HMBOV1 and HMBOV2) were identified in the livers and feces of wild Himalayan marmots in China, by viral metagenomic analysis. Five of 300 liver samples from Himalayan marmots were positive for HMBOV1 and five of 99 fecal samples from these animals for HMBOV2. Their nearly complete genome sequences are 4,672 and 4,887 nucleotides long, respectively, with a standard genomic organization and containing protein-coding motifs typical for BOVs. Based on their NS1, NP1, and VP1,HMBOV1 and HMBOV2 are most closely related to porcine BOV SX/1-2(approximately 77.0%/50.0%, 50.0%/53.0%, and79.0%/54.0% amino acid identity, respectively). Phylogenetic analysis of these three proteins showed that HMBOV1 and HMBOV2 formed two distinctly independent branches in BOVs. According to these results, HMBOV1 and HMBOV2 are two different novel species in the Bocaparvovirus genus. Their identification expands our knowledge of the genetic diversity and evolution of BOVs. Further studies are needed to investigate their potential pathogenicity and their impact on Himalayan marmots and humans.

AIM: To investigate whether 7-d triple therapies are still valid in populations with low levels of ***: A total of 1106 Helicobacter pylori(H. pylori)-positive patients were divided into three groups,each of which received one type of 7-d triple therapy. Therapeutic outcomes of the patients were assessed by the 13C-urea breath test at 8 wk after treatment. The susceptibility of H. pylori to antibiotics was determined by an agar-dilution method. Data analysis was performed by χ2 ***: The eradication rates in groups A,B and C were 90.71%(332/366),90.46%(313/346) and 90.87%(189/208),respectively(P = 0.986). The resistance rates were 8.91% for clarithromycin,14.78% for levofloxacin and 0% for amoxicillin. The eradication rate was significantly different between clarithromycin-and levofloxacin-resistant patients(P < 0.05) in group A. Patients whose treatment failed in group A also had a higher clarithromycin resistance rate than did successive patients(P = 0.034). However,levofloxacin resistance had no obvious influence on the eradication rate. Furthermore,three main antibiotics(clarithromycin,levofloxacin and amoxicillin) had lower DID(defined daily dose per 1000 inhabitants per day) in this ***: Clarithromycin resistance is the main reason for the failure of 7-d triple therapy. In populations with low levels of resistance,a 7-d triple therapy is a viable choice. The choice of therapy should not be influenced by conditions in high antibiotic resistance regions.
