Modeling the dynamic process of tsunami earthquake by liquid-solid coupling model

Tsunami induced by earthquake is an interaction problem between liquid and ***-water wave equation is often used to modeling the tsunami,and the boundary or initial condition of the problem is determined by the displacement or velocity field from the earthquake under sea floor,usually no interaction between them is consid-ered in pure liquid *** this study,the potential flow theory and the finite element method with the interaction between liquid and solid are employed to model the dynamic processes of the earthquake and *** model-ing the earthquake,firstly the initial stress field to generate the earthquake is set up,and then the occurrence of the earthquake is simulated by suddenly reducing the elastic material parameters inside the earthquake *** is dif-ferent from seismic dislocation theory in which the relative slip on the fault is specified in *** modeling results reveal that P,SP and the surface wave can be found at the sea surface besides the tsunami *** surface wave arrives at the distance of 600 km from the epicenter earlier than the tsunami 48 minutes,and its maximum amplitude is 0.55 m,which is 2 times as large as that of the sea *** warning information can be taken from the surface wave on the sea surface,which is much earlier than that obtained from the seismograph stations on *** tsunami speed on the open sea with 3 km depth is 175.8 m/s,which is a little greater than that pre-dicted by long wave theory,(gh)1/2=171.5 m,and its wavelength and amplitude in average are 32 km and 2 m,*** the tsunami propagates to the continental shelf,its speed and wavelength is reduced,but its amplitude become greater,especially,it can elevate up to 10 m and run 55 m forward in vertical and horizontal directions at sea shore,*** maximum vertical accelerations at the epicenter on the sea surface and on the earthquake fault are 5.9 m/s2 and 16.5 m/s2,respectively,the later is 2.8 times the

NONLINEAR CNOIDAL WAVES AND SOLITARY WAVES IN ATMOSPHERE

In this paper, starting with the equations describing the atmospheric motion and by arelatively simple method, we find that, nearby the mechanical equilibrium point, all thefinite amplitude nonlinear inertia waves, internal gravity waves and Rossby waves in thedispersive atmosphere satisfy the KdV (Korteweg-de Vries) equation, its solution being thecnoidal waves and solitary waves. For the finite amplitude Rossby waves, we find the newdispersive relation which is different from the Rossby formula and contains the amplitudeparameter. It is shown that the larger the amplitude and width, the faster are the wavesfor the finite amplitude inertia waves and internal gravity waves, and the slower are thewaves for the Rossby solitary waves, to which perhaps the polar vortex and the blocking orcut-off systems belong. This treatise gives the nonlinear waves a new way and inspires usto study the nonlinear adjustment process and evolution process and the turbulence structure.

STUDY OF MICROWAVE REMOTE SENSING OF THE SOIL MOISTURE

This article includes a study of the microwave emissivity characteristics of moist soil and the method of microwave remote sensing of the soil moisture. The relation between soil dielectric constant and moisture was measured with terminal short circuit line method. The microwave emissivity of soil decreases with the increase of humidity because the real andimage parts of dielectric constant increases with the humidity. The relation between soil microwave emissivity and humidity is measured with the microwave emissivity meter made by us. Considerable change of brightness temperature is caused by different soil humidity. This article also presents the exhausted depth and the influence of humidity distribution on emissivity, the effection of soil surface roughness on emissivity. THEORETICAL FIT FOR OPTICAL SPECTRUM OF CRAB PULSAR

A theoretical optical spectrum for the Crab pulsar is presented. An inverse Compton scattering mechanism and nonrelativistic analytic solutions of differential cross sections of the Compton scattering in strong magnetic field given by Herlod (1979) are used in calculations. This mechanism was suggested in Qiao and others’ previous work. The theoretical curves obtained in this paper can well fit the observed one. This further shows the mechanism to be reasonable.

Earthquake hazard potential in the Eastern Anatolian Region of Turkey： seismotectonic b and Dc-values and precursory quiescence Z-value

The Eastern Anatolian Region of Turkey is one of the most seismically and tectonically active regions due to the frequent occurrence of earthquakes. Thus, the main goal of this study is to analyze the regional and temporal characteristics of seismicity in the Eastern Anatolia in terms of the seismotectonic b-value, fractal dimension Dcvalue, precursory seismic quiescence Z-value, and their interrelationships. This study also seeks to obtain a reliable empirical relation between b and De-values and to evaluate the temporal changes of these parameters as they relate to the earthquake potential of the region. A more up-to-date relation of De = 2.55 -0.39＊b is found with a very strong negative correlation coefficient （r=- 0.95） by using the orthogonal regression method. The b-values less than 1.0 and the De-values greater than 2.2 are observed in the Northeast Anatolian Fault Zone, Askale, Erzurum, Igdlr and Caldlran Faults, Dogubeyazlt Fault Zone, around the Genc Fault, the western part of the Bitlis-Zagros Thrust Zone, Pulumir and Karakogan Faults, and the SancakUzunpmar Fault Zone. In addition, the regions having small b-values and large Z-values are calculated around the Geng, Piulumur and Karakogan Faults as well as the Saneak-Uzunpmar Fault Zone. Remarkably, the combinations of these seismotectonic parameters could reveal the earthquake hazard potential in the Eastern Anatolian Region of Turkey, thus creating an increased interest in these anomaly regions.

Complicated responses of stalagmite δ ^(13)C to climate change during the last glaciation from Hulu Cave, Nanjing,China

We present a record on carbon stable isotopic composition (δ 13C), covering 75 through 10 thousands years ago (ka B.P.), from Hulu Cave, Nanjing. The overlapping δ 13C pro-files are very similar in pattern and range, indicating that they mainly record climatic signal. Dur-ing the last glacial-interglacial transition, the >6‰ change of δ 13C values implies different con-tributions of C3 vs. C4 type plants in soils. On millennial scale, however, the increased calcite δ 13C during the warm Dansgaard-Oeschger (DO) events suggests a decrease of dissolved bio-genic CO2 when water flux rate through soil is large. This correlation between heavier δ 13C and higher precipitation is consistent with our previous report on the samples’ stable oxygen isotope records (Wang et al., 2001). Comparison of coeval δ 13C and δ 18O of stalagmites indicates that kinetic fractionation of carbon isotope is closely related to growth rate of stalagmites. This study also shows that local vegetation changes may lag behind precipitation changes by ~700 years during the deglaciation.

On ultrahigh temperature crustal metamorphism:Phase equilibria,trace element thermometry,bulk composition,heat sources,timescales and tectonic settings

Ultrahigh temperature （UHT） metamorphism is the most thermally extreme form of regional crustal metamorphism, with temperatures exceeding 900 ℃. UHT crustal metamorphism is recognised in more than 50 localities globally in the metamorphic rock record and is accepted as ＇normal＇ in the spectrum of regional crustal processes. UHT metamorphism is Wpically identified on the basis of diagnostic mineral assemblages such as sapphirine ＋ quartz, orthopyroxene ＋ sillimanite ＋ quartz and osumilite in Mg-Al- rich rock compositions, now usually coupled with pseudosection-based thermobarometry using internally-consistent thermodynamic data sets and/or Al-in-Orthopyroxene and ternary feldspar thermobarometry. Significant progress in the understanding of regional UHT metamorphism in recent years includes：（1） development of a ferric iron activity-composition thermodynamic model for sapphirine, allowing phase diagram calculations for oxidised rock compositions; （2） quantification of UHT conditions via trace element thermometry, with Zr-in-rutile more commonly recording higher temperatures than Ti-in-zircon. Rutile is likely to be stable at peak UHT conditions whereas zircon may only grow as UHT rocks are cooling. In addition, the extent to which Zr diffuses out of rutile is controlled by chemical communication with zircon; （3） more fully recognising and utilising temperature-dependent thermal properties of the crust, and the possible range of heat sources causing metamorphism in geodynamic modelling studies; （4） recognising that crust partially melted either in a previous event or earlier in a long-duration event has greater capacity than fertile, unmelted crust to achieve UHT conditions due to the heat energy consumed by partial melting reactions; （5） more strongly linking U-Pb geochronological data from zircon and monazite to P-T points or path segments through using Y ＋ REE partitioning between accessory and major phases, as well as phase diagrams incorporating Zr and REE; and （

Velocity field of wave-induced local fluid flow in double-porosity media

Under the excitation of elastic waves,local fluid flow in a complex porous medium is a major cause for wave dispersion and *** the local fluid flow process is simulated with wave propagation equations in the double-porosity medium,two porous skeletons are usually assumed,namely,host and *** them,the volume ratio of inclusion skeletons is *** previous studies have ignored the consideration of local fluid flow velocity field in inclusions,and therefore they can not completely describe the physical process of local flow oscillation and should not be applied to the situation where the fluid kinetic energy in inclusions cannot be *** this paper,we analyze the local fluid flow velocity fields inside and outside the inclusion,rewrite the kinetic energy function and dissipation function based on the double-porosity medium model containing spherical inclusions,and derive the reformulated Biot-Rayleigh(BR)equations of elastic wave propagation based on Hamilton’s *** present simulation examples with different rock and fluid *** between BR equations and reformulated BR equations show that there are significant differences in wave response ***,we compare the reformulated BR equations with the previous theories and experimental data,and the results show that the theoretical results of this paper are correct and effective.

Magnetic Properties of Street Dust from Chibi City,Hubei Province,China:Its Implications for Urban Environment

Magnetic measurements and heavy metal analyses were performed on street dusts from the main urban area of Chibi（赤壁） City,Hubei（湖北） Province,*** revealed that a PSD/MD（pseudo-single-domain/multi-domain） magnetite-like phase dominates the magnetic phases of the street ***-related magnetic parameters,such as magnetic susceptibility（χ）,anhysteretic remanent magnetization（ARM）,and saturation isothermal remanent magnetization（SIRM） of samples increased in the main roads but appeared lower in the landscape area of the Lushui（陆水） Lake and closely correlated with the concentration of heavy metal Fe,Cu,and Co,and the correlation coefficients are 0.786 for Fe-χ,0.548 for Cu-χ,and 0.580 for Co-χ,***,much strong correlations between SIRM and the concentrations of heavy metal suggest that SIRM is a better indicator for heavy metal pollution in the street dust in the study *** magnetic particles in the street dust are mainly derived from anthropogenic activities,such as vehicle emissions,abrasion of tires,coal combustion,cement works,and building *** results make it possible to use magnetic techniques as simple,rapid,and nondestructive tools for assessing the heavy metal pollutions in urbanization process.
